3 Rural Virtual Academy Regular Board Meeting Wednesday, September 16, 2015 The regular meeting of the Rural Virtual Academy was called to order by Administrator, Charlie Heckel, on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 1:05 p.m. at the Taylor County Education Center. Roll Call Roll call indicated that Gary Gunderson, Andy Scharenbroch, Jennifer Krauss, Paul Dixon, Annaleas Sheahan, Greg Krause, Rebeccah Hopkins, Sarah Marcis, Lisa Beels, and Sara Holewinski were present. Jana Beaber and Laura Anderson were absent. Administrators present included: Reed Welsh, Charlie Heckel, Pat Sullivan, Dick Lind, Randy Bergman, Jon Dallman, and Mike Endreas. Tollef Wienke, Bill Greb, Jim Hagen, and Scott Winch were absent. Open Meeting Law Compliance Charlie Heckel stated that a copy of the agenda was sent to the Medford Area Public Schools, Star News, WKEB/WIGM Radio, and was posted at the District Office. Period of Public Comment None. Correspondence 1. Good News Update a. Office Sandy Pope shared that RVA is gearing up for third Friday count and there have been a lot of entries/withdrawals. There are currently 300 students enrolled. b. Activities Rebeccah Hopkins shared that the first field trip is an outdoor education event at Camp Forest Springs on September 25 th. RVA has been divided into six regions: Antigo/Merrill, Medford, Marshfield, Tomah, Milwaukee, and Wausau which are being coordinated by regional event personnel. There have already been several meet and greet events in the regions. c. Parent Advisory Council Lisa Beels shared that the first PAC meeting will be held in early October. d. Taylor County Lease Charlie Heckel shared that the annual Taylor County Lease has been signed. Consent Agenda Consideration of: 1. Approval of Agenda 2. Secretary s Report a. Approval of Regular Meeting Minutes of Wednesday, May 20, 2015 (open). Motion (Hopkins/Sheahan) to approve the consent agenda, including: approval of agenda and approval of Regular Meeting Minutes of Wednesday, May 20, 2015 (open). Motion carried. Regular Business 1. Welcome and Introduction of Governance Board Members and Administrators All in attendance introduced themselves and new board members were welcomed. 2. Review of RVA s Robert s Rules and Overview of Board s Role Charlie Heckel reviewed Robert s Rules and the Board s Role.

4 3. Update on RVA Test Scores Charlie Heckel updated the board on the RVA test scores. 4. Presentation of 2014/15 Annual Performance Report The 2014/15 Annual Performance Report was reviewed and distributed to board members. 5. Update on Faculty The board was updated on the current RVA faculty. 6. Discuss Consortium Graduation Ceremony Participation of RVA Students The board discussed participation of RVA students in consortium graduation ceremony. 7. Discuss RVA High School Student Athlete Participation with WIAA Membership The board discussed RVA high school student athlete participation with WIAA membership. 8. Update on RVA Blended Learning Initiative Charlie Heckel updated the board on blended learning initiative. 9. Update on Enrollment The board was updated on the current enrollment. 10. Update on Costing The board was updated on expenditures to date. Adjourn Motion (Sullivan/Hopkins) to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
