1 LESSON PLAN Created by Deborah Coffey and Jarrod Maybury, Lakewood Local SD Lesson Plan Title: Grade Level: DOG GONE JOB! 6 Career Development Key Topic(s): CAREER INFORMATION, ECONOMICS Concept/Topic to Teach: DISCUSS TYPES OF JOBS AND HOW JOB SPECIALIZATION HELPS PRODUCE GOODS AND SERVICES Academic Content Standards Addressed: ECONOMICS Students use economic reasoning skills and knowledge of major economic concepts, issues and systems in order to make choices as producers, consumers, savers, investors, workers and citizens in an interdependent world. Specific Objective (s): Compare different jobs that people do and how they work together to achieve a common goal. Time Frame: One class period (45 minutes) Steps of Lesson: Activity: Watch the following video of the daily activities at a kennel. Pay close attention to the types of jobs you see people doing. Watch the Video What types of jobs did you see at the kennel? What other jobs may exist at the kennel? EXTENSION: Have students categorize jobs under appropriate cluster heading signs. Grouping: class Assessment or Evaluation: Write a job announcement for a position at the kennel. Refer to local papers and national newspapers such as (along the right-hand navigation bar) for examples of job announcements. List the tasks, which that particular worker needs to be able to do.
