Deployed operationally by a number of police agencies, fire services and multi-agency response teams in the UK and internationally, the Command Support System is fast fast to setup, fast to learn, fast to use and fast to share and distribute. Available modules represent the key functions required by emergency managers, integrated together so that data entered once is used often, and integrated as appropriate with back office systems and real time incident ground telemetry. An intuitive graphical user interface which automatically scales for touch optimisation allows any level of responder to interact with any module on a hand-held device, touchenabled large screen or through a traditional workstation. The Command Support System is equally valuable for both routine response and for major events and incidents, as well as being entirely scalable to support the multi-agency or multi-national response to natural disasters. 4 ... not an IT system for IT experts Avoiding Information Overload Our software recognises that sharing a Common Operational Picture does not mean that everyone has to look at an identical view of an incident. The Command Support System enables commanders to view the incident data from their own perspective: a strategic commander will view the map across the entire area of operation; an incident commander will only view the response structure two levels down. The system automatically masks inappropriate detail, while other detail can be switched on and off depending on what the user wishes to see. For organisations who have to manage multiple incidents or events, or who may be faced with multi-sited incidents, there is CSS GoldCommand. This optional enhancement to the system provides a multiple incident map interface, which allows strategic commanders and control room staff to view all ongoing incidents across their area of operation on a single screen, as well as a continually updated summary of assets and personnel deployed across all active incidents and events. 6 Frequently Asked Questions Is the Command Support System dependent on any particular hardware to run? CSS runs on standard, current generation processors and operating systems with embedded drivers and toolsets for leading touch technologies. What maps does CSS use? CSS implementations for UK responders are pre-loaded with standard OS mapping sets giving national coverage to 1:50,000 and regional coverage to street level. Customer data such as flood maps, geo-located risk data, aerial photography or any other map data provided in industry standard formats, can also utilised. Areas not covered by UK OS mapping come pre-loaded with Open Street Map data. Can I show the positions of GPS tracked assets and people in the Map module? CSS connects to a TETRA radio middleware application to import the GPS location of TETRA devices, either vehicle or personnel. It also has the ability to import NMEA GPS data from other GPS devices, such as GPS radio microphones used for tracking personnel around the incident ground. Is CSS only suitable for large agencies or organisations? CSS can transform the operational decision making of all organisations, whatever the size. Even a minimum configuration of CSS in a control room or mobile command unit will significantly enhance performance. Various finance options, including leasing arrangements, are also available. Can I utilise information available in existing systems? Data (mapping layers, HR or vehicle information, intelligence) in back office systems can be integrated with, for example, the Live Map and Organisational Chart modules. Information (risk assessments, plans, policies etc), stored on an intranet or extranet, can be brought into CSS through the Web Browser module. Does CSS have a training mode? CSS has both a training mode which allows training incidents to be created and also an optional module which links CSS with VectorCommand s Command Training System, providing simulated dispatch, messaging and camera feeds into CSS against a pre-determined scenario timeline.
