3 Accounting, Financial Planning and Payroll Financial Planning Certificate Program EMU s Financial Planning Certificate program is a non-credit program fulfilling a growing demand among financial planning professionals for the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER CFP certification. Those successfully completing this board-registered program are qualified to sit for the CFP certification examination. The program consists of seven courses covering principles of financial planning, insurance, investments, retirement, personal income tax, estate planning and the new financial plan pesentation course. All courses follow guidelines established by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. For more information about CFP certification, visit cfp.net or call Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the marks CFP, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements. Eastern Michigan University does not certify individuals to use the CFP, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER and certification marks. CFP certification is granted only by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. to those persons who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met its ethics, experience and examination requirements. Topics include the planning process, client interactions, time value of money, personal financial statements, cash flow and debt management, asset acquisition, education planning, plan integration, ethics and specific techniques used by financial planners. Helpful for individuals interested in developing and managing their own financial portfolio and personalized retirement plan. CFP Income Tax Planning CEUs 3.0 Cost $695 Length 12 weeks/hybrid, six class meetings Dates Tuesdays, Jan. 21, Feb. 4, 18, March 4, 18, April 1, 6 9 p.m., EMU Livonia Focuses on principles, current law, the impact of income taxation on financial planning for individuals, couples and families in their roles as investors, employees and business owners. CFP Capstone, Financial Development Course CEUs 3.0 Cost $695 Length 12 weeks, online Dates Jan. 20 April 11, or May 19 Aug. 8, or Sept. Nov. This capstone course requirement has been designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and abilities of individuals seeking to attain CFP certification and implement an assessment of their ability to deliver professional and competent financial planning services to the public. This course is entirely online and is somewhat self-paced. CFP Retirement Planning CEUs 3.0 Cost $695 Length 12 weeks/hybrid, six class meetings Dates May 19 Aug. 8, Covers public and private retirement plans, including Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Topics include: defined benefit and defined contribution plans and deferred compensation plans, as well as lifestyle choices and medical issues facing individuals in retirement. Nov. 6 9 p.m., EMU Livonia An introduction to risk management and insurance decisions in personal financial planning, including insurance for life, health, disability, property risks, annuities, group insurance and long-term insurance. Learn to assess the types and characteristics of confined spaces along with the chemical, mechanical and physical hazards, test instrument and safety equipment and prepare an entry permit. Enables you to determine the safest emergency response actions, search procedures and rescue procedures. Must be taken with CS Entrant/Attendant. DOT Hazardous Materials Handling CEUs 0.4 Cost $125 Date May 9, 8 a.m. noon, EMU Livonia Intended for those who load, unload, or handle hazardous materials in transportation. Learn to recognize hazardous materials, package and vehicle markings, labels and placards and understand function-specific requirements and procedures for packing, loading, unloading and movement of HazMats incidental to transportation. Topics covered also include general familiarization with HazMat regulations, safety, security awareness and security plan requirements. Fall Protection/ Competent Person CEUs 0.7 Cost $295 Length Eight contact hours Provides workers who climb with the proper skills for continuous and effective protection from falls. Practical methods for using varied safety equipment prepares you to also function as a competent person. Complies with OSHA compliance guidelines and ANSI standards. HAZWOPER Emergency Responder Refresher CEUs 0.7 Cost Call for a quote Length One day Intended for members of the spill team engaged in work site, incidental or emergency response and clean up. Enables you to recognize various hazards associated with released materials and use safe, methodical response procedures. 6 4 Health and Safety and OSHA HAZWOPER Technician Level (24 Hour) CEUs 2.4 Cost Call for a quote Length Three days Designed for personnel who respond to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances or who perform maintenance at TDS facilities. They may assume a more aggressive role in response to a release and may perform actions to stop the release or clean up the spill. They may plug, patch, repair, absorb, over pack, etc., in order to mitigate the incident. Incident Commander All Risk/All Hazard (8 Hour) Cost $295 Date Jan. 24, 8 a.m. 4 p.m., EMU Livonia Designed for local supervisors or team leaders who need to be prepared to respond to any incident or emergency affecting their facility or organization. Emphasis is given to developing and implementing an all risk emergency response plan, the value of pre-planning for any unexpected emergency or event and your organization s role in a community-wide or larger incident. Prerequisite: None, however a minimum of 24 hours of First Responder: Operations Level training is required to meet the requirements of 29 CFR Incident Commander. Lead and Asbestos Awareness CEUs 0.3 Cost Call for a quote. Length Three hours Learn how to protect yourself from health effects of exposure to lead and asbestos; use safe work practices; recognize typical lead and asbestos containing materials; and understand U.S. OSHA and MIOSHA standards for lead and asbestos as well as U.S. EPA and MDEQ air pollution regulations for asbestos. Related processes such as spraying and dipping are covered, as well as electrical equipment. emich.edu/noncredit OTI 2045 Machinery and Machine Guarding Standards CEUs 2.8 Cost $800 Dates March 4 7, 8 a.m. 4 p.m., EMU Brighton Sept , 8 a.m. 4 p.m., EMU Livonia Familiarizes you with various types of common machinery and the related safety standards. Guidance is provided on the hazards associated with various kinds of machinery and the control of hazardous energy sources (lockout/tagout). Presents an approach to machinery inspection enabling you to recognize hazards and provide options to achieve abatement. These hazards include mechanical motions and actions created by points of operation and other machinery processes. OTI 2225 Respiratory Protection CEUs 2.8 Cost $800 Date June 17 20, 8 a.m. 4 p.m., EMU Brighton Covers the requirements for the establishment, maintenance and monitoring of a respirator program. Topics include terminology, OSHA standards, NIOSH certification and medical evaluation recommendations. Program highlights include laboratories on respirator selection, qualitative fit testing and the use of a large array of respiratory and support equipment for handson training. OTI 2255 Principles of Ergonomics CEUs 2.1 Cost $725 Date Jan , 8 a.m. 4 p.m., EMU Brighton Covers the use of ergonomic principles to recognize, evaluate and control work place conditions causing or contributing to musculoskeletal and nerve disorders. Topics include work physiology, anthropometry, musculoskeletal disorders, use of video display terminals and risk factors such as vibration, temperature, material handling, repetition and lifting and transfers in health care. Course emphasis is on industrial case studies covering analysis and design of workstations and equipment, laboratory sessions in manual lifting, and coverage of current OSHA compliance policies. You re introduced to practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and unshored slopes and walls of excavations. Various types of shoring (wood timbers and hydraulic) are covered. Testing methods are demonstrated allowing you to use instruments such as penetrometers, torvane shears and engineering rods.
