2 PRMIA and its Edmonton Chapter PRMIA stands for Professional Risk Managers International Association. PRMIA is a non-profit organization that promotes sound risk management standards and the integration of practice and theory is active in the major financial centres worldwide with 45 chapters. Active PRMIA Chapter in Edmonton that organizes regular events on topics surrounding risk management an annual finance and risk management career conference at the University of Alberta, usually around March
3 PRMC: Overview PRMIA Risk Management Challenge (PRMC) is an annual event where students solve realistic business problems with a risk management focus. Participation: students build teams of 3 4 members open to both undergraduate and graduate students no specific coursework required, but background in finance, economics and mathematics will be beneficial registration fee is 100 USD per team. Participating PRMIA Chapters: there are 9 participating cities: Chicago, Dublin, Edmonton, London, Montreal, Moscow, New York, Toronto, Vancouver Edmonton participates for the first time.
4 PRMC: Different Stages Chicago (online) Chicago Dublin (online) Dublin Edmonton (online) Edmonton London (online) London Chicago Montreal (online) Montreal Moscow (online) Moscow New York (online) New York Toronto (online) Toronto Vancouver (online) Vancouver Stage 0: Team Registrations Stage 1A: Electronic Submissions Stage 1B: Regional Championship Stage 2: International Championship
5 Stage 0: Team Registrations Edmonton (online) Students build teams of 3 4 members. Register the team at select Edmonton choose a team name upload a resume for each team member pay USD 100 registration fee. The registration deadline is only December 24, 2015, but we appreciate early registrations for organizational reasons.
6 Stage 1a: Electronic Submissions Edmonton (online) Edmonton Participating teams receive a case study per with around 3 4 questions on January 3, Electronic submission of a three-page executive summary (plus maximal two-page appendix) is due on January 11, Teams in all participating cities receive the same questions, but regional competitions are separate. For Edmonton, maximal 4 teams among all the submissions will be selected (announcement on January 18, 2016 per ).
7 Stage 1b: Regional Championship Edmonton Edmonton Regional Champion Teams prepare PowerPoint presentations of 20 minutes on new questions to the same case study. After presentation, 5 10 minutes questions and answers. A committee of 3 judges: Phyllis Clark, Chief Financial Officer, University of Alberta and Board of Directors Member, Bank of Canada Bogie Ozdemir, Chief Risk Officer, Canadian Western Bank Walker Rogers, Executive Vice President (Regulation and Risk Assessment), Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation ranks the presentations and selects the winning team. Edmonton Regional Championship is at the University of Alberta on January 28, 2016, 1:30 5:30pm.
8 Stage 2: International Championship International Championship Overall Winner The 9 winning regional teams of the regional competitions participate in the International Championship. The 9 winning regional teams receive a new case study per on February 13, Electronic submission of a three-page executive summary (plus maximal two-page appendix) is due on March 4, The 9 winning regional teams travel to Chicago, where they participate in the International Championship on March 11, 2016.
9 Stage 2: International Championship The winning team will win up to 10,000 USD. This award will be pooled from registration fees and is subject to US tax laws. In principle, all teams are responsible for their own transportation, hotel and travel expenses. Financial support varies for different chapters. The Edmonton Chapter and its sponsors will provide financial support toward the travel expenses to the international competition: up to 1,250 CAD per member of the Edmonton winning team.
