1 Tournament Rules Qualifiers Individual League Dutch StarCraft League December 28, General rules 1.1 Tournament structure The Dutch StarCraft League (DSCL) Individual League consists of 3 stages which each have their own format and rule set. The first stage consists of 12 online qualifiers, tournaments which will be played in one evening or afternoon. Players can participate in as many qualifiers as they want. Those players who perform best in the qualifiers will advance to the online main tournament, which will be played during a period of several weeks. The top 8 players from the online main tournament will then qualify for the offline final, which will be held on June 1st 2013 at an as of yet unspecified location. The rules described in this document apply to the qualifiers. 1.2 Participation The qualifiers for the DSCL are open to all StarCraft 2 players who have a Battle.net account on the European server and are willing and able to come to the offline final in the Netherlands (if they make it that far). The following rules also apply: Players can sign up for qualifiers during the whole tournament. Players must abide by the rules specified in this document and additional instructions given by the organization. Breaking a rule can be grounds for disqualification from one of the qualifiers or the whole tournament. Every qualifier has a maximum of 128 players. Players will be randomly distributed over the brackets. 1.3 Administrators The DSCL will appoint admins whose job it is to make sure the tournament runs smoothly. 1

2 Admins are the main contacts for players in the tournament. Contact details of the admins will be communicated through the website. Decisions made by admins are final. You can contact the admins during the qualifiers in the Battle.net chat channel DSCL.qualifier. 2 Format of the qualifiers 2.1 Format The qualifiers are single elimination brackets. This means that the loser of a match is out of that qualifier and the winner will continue on to the next round. The maximum amount of participants in a qualifier is 128. All rounds up to and including Ro16 are Best of 1 (Bo1), which means that you only play one map to decide who will continue to the next round. The Ro8, Ro4 and final are Bo3: the first player to win 2 maps wins the match and continues on to the next round (or wins the qualifier). 2.2 Maps All matches of the qualifiers will be played on the following maps: 1. ESL Daybreak 2. ESL Ohana 3. ESL Entombed Valley 4. ESL Metropolis 5. ESL Cloud Kingdom 6. ESL Antiga Shipyard 7. GSL Whirlwind We will use the ESL version of these maps. Whirlwind is the only map where we will use a GSL version; you can find this map in the Arcade. The first map of each series will be determined in advance by the admins. The loser of the first map in a Bo3 series picks the next map. A map can only be played once per match. 2

3 2.3 Qualifying for the main tournament & points Qualifying for the main tournament can happen in 2 ways: either you qualify directly by making it into the finals of a qualifier, or you gather enough points by the end of all the qualifiers. Both finalists of a qualifier will instantly qualify for the DSCL main tournament. They are not allowed to participate in any of the remaining qualifiers. Other players will be given points according to the round of the qualifier which they have reached: Ro128 = 2, Ro64 = 5, Ro32 = 10, Ro16 = 20, Ro8 = 35, Ro4 = 50. After all 12 qualifiers have been played, the 40 players with the highest amount of points qualify for the main tournament along with the 24 finalists from the qualifiers. If players have the same amount of points, their placement in the rankings will be determined by their best performance in the qualifiers: a player who got to the Ro4 in a qualifier will be higher in the ranking than a player who only ever got to the Ro8. If this still results in a tie, the second-best result will be compared, and so on. In case this doesn t resolve the tie, the placement will be decided by a Bo3 between the two players. If there are more than 2 players, the organization will decide the format of the tie-breaker game. Players who qualify for the main tournament but cancel or do not confirm their participation before the main tournament started will be replaced by the next non-qualified player according to the rankings. After the main tournament has started, players that cancel their participation will not be replaced. 3 Game rules 3.1 Playing games & submitting results The qualifiers on Tuesday and Thursday start at 19:30 CET (GMT+1), the qualifiers on Sunday start at 14:00 CET (GMT+1). You have to be online and ready to play your first match at that time. You are required to confirm your participation before the qualifier starts on BinaryBeast. You can confirm from 30 minutes in advance (19:00 CET on Tuesday and Thursday, 13:30 CET on Sunday) until the start of the qualifier (unless the qualifier is full). If a qualifier is full (all 128 spots are taken), all participants that haven t confirmed 10 minutes before the start of the qualifier (19:20 CET or 13:50 3

4 CET) will be removed from the qualifier in order to free up spots for late-comers. You have to have an account on the DSCL-forums; both that account and the one on BinaryBeast need to show the same Battle.net name + character code. If your next opponent has to wait for you for more than 15 minutes (when you are not in a DSCL-match), you can be disqualified. So do not take long breaks in between your games and make sure your opponents can reach you. The winner of each match has the responsibility to submit the results on BinaryBeast which requires uploading replays of the games. These replays can be used to check if any accusations of cheating or excessive chatting are correct. 3.2 Chat Chat during the game should be restricted to expressions of sportsmanship and essential communication (e.g. during a break). Abusive/excessive chatting and/or chatting to distract your opponent can be grounds for disqualification. In case of unregulatory chatting, a player should contact an admin. 3.3 Game settings Players can use any graphics setting. The following settings are mandatory: Every game has to be played on faster speed. Every player has to put their online status to Busy. Automatic saving of replays has to be turned on. 3.4 Streaming, observers & casting Players may not stream their own games. Non-DSCL observers and casters are allowed if both players agree. The stream delay has to be at least 2 minutes. It is the responsibility of the players to make sure that no unwanted persons are in the lobby before the game starts. If there is an unwanted person, the player should refuse to start the game. If DSCL-admins and casters request to join a game, they have to be accepted. A list of online identifiers of the DSCL-admins and casters will be communicated through the website. 4

5 If a player does not want his games up to and including the Ro32 to be casted by DSCL, they have to tell the DSCL organization before the qualifier starts. The DSCL has the right to cast every match above Ro32. Ro4 and Ro2 will almost always be cast. 3.5 Pausing The use of the pause function has to be restricted to emergencies. When a player pauses the game, they have to explain what the reason for the pause is and give an estimation of how long the pause will take. A pause may not be longer than 5 minutes. If the player who paused the game isn t ready to continue after these 5 minutes, the game will be a loss for the player that paused. The game may only be continued from a pause if both players have indicated that they are ready to continue. 3.6 Race selection A player has to choose a race before signing up for a qualifier and has to show this in his account on the DSCL forum. Players are not allowed to switch races during a qualifier. Players can play different races in different qualifiers, as long as they specify their choice of race in their profile on the DSCL-forum. 3.7 Ties The game ends in a tie when no minerals or gas have been collected for a few minutes and there have been no battles (the automatic tie rule of StarCraft 2). Players can mutually agree to a tie. If a tie happens, the game has to be replayed on the same map. 3.8 Disconnects If a player loses their connection, their opponent wins the game. Exception to the above rule: if less than 5 (in-game) minutes have been played and there has been no interaction between players (scouting, battles, etc.), the game has to be replayed on the same map. 5

6 When after 5 (in-game) minutes a disconnect occurs, but the disconnected player believes that the game would have undoubtedly been decided in his favor, he can appeal to the admins. The admins will then ask for the replay and watch the game. If their conclusion is that the disconnected player would have certainly won if he hadn t been disconnected, the game will be replayed. If the admins conclude otherwise, the disconnected player will be disqualified from this qualifier. 3.9 Cheating/hacking A player using cheats, hacks or any other means that give him an unfair advantage will be disqualified and excluded from any further participation in the DSCL. If a player suspects his opponent is cheating, the player must contact an admin Conflicts In case of a conflict between players which they can not resolve by themselves, an admin must be contacted in the DSCL.qualifier chat channel on Battle.net Disqualification and exclusion from participation Players who break the tournament rules or misbehave in any other way can be disqualified for one or more qualifiers, or excluded from further participation in the tournament. Decisions made by an admin about disqualification and exclusion are final and not up for discussion. 4 Concluding provisions The rules described in this document only apply to the qualifier-phase of the Individual League. The other parts of the DSCL have their own set of rules. The rules may be changed in the period leading up to the tournament and also during the tournament. Players will be notified of any important changes to these rules through the DSCL-website. If any situation occurs which is not described by the rules or where the rules are unclear, a decision will be made by the organization of the DSCL. 6
