Move towards risk-based QA Requires: Greater scrutiny of centre s internal QA processes More holistic view of practice, not just decisions Ongoing sampling of compliance with centre approval criteria, rather than five yearly y re-approval visit NB: Greater confidence in centre s and internal QA systems = fewer CIPD interventions!

30 Implications for assessors
31 When planning Undertake initial diagnostic interview of each candidate record any opportunities for credit transfer, exemptions and recognition of prior learning. Identify any reasonable adjustment /support needed Develop plan to show how units will be assessed (at cohort or individual id level) l) Ensure candidates understand d what they are expected to produce, by when, how they will be assessed, process for ratifying results

Valid relevant to the learning outcomes and criteria i which h are being assessed Reliable consistently achieves same results with same/similar group of candidates Fair ensure everyone has equal chance of getting an accurate Safe includes physical and psychological safety Use s from National Assessment Bank or if develop own, ensure they are approved by RV (via EV)
33 When assessing Make decisions based on evidence that is: Valid only judge evidence relevant to criteria being assessed Authentic must be signed and dated by candidate with statement confirming it s their own work. If in doubt, check! Sufficient must comply with unit guidance. Ensure all criteria linked to unit learning outcomes are met before signing off unit Current normally within 3 years
34 When providing feedback Complete Assessment Report for each activity Identify which criteria have been met or referred. Comment on quality of evidence produced and additional or areas for development Sign and date report If candidate re-submits, original i and re-submitted evidence and Assessment Reports should be retained for verification purposes
35 When recording candidate progress Ensure each candidate completes Candidate Evidence Matrix which cross-references their evidence to units Record unit achievement on Candidate Achievement Record (CAR) and candidate progress on centre tracking system. Ensure kept up to date for sampling purposes Identify on CAR form how candidate achieved unit passed, exemption, credit from equivalent unit, etc CAR to be signed by programme leader/iv prior to EV g y p g p approval

37 Key Internal Verifier (IV) activities Devise sampling plan Undertake sampling in line with plan Record sampling activity it Give feedback to assessors Undertake standardisation with assessor(s) Ensure action points set by IV and EV are met
38 IV Sampling Plan Is a planned approach to sampling practice and outcomes over a period of time Gives a snapshot of activities that captures good practice and identifies areas for improvement To take these snapshots, the IV will need CAMERAS
