Conference Background According to the UN statistic, the world population will approximately reach more than 200 million with 60 years old above in In 2000, it will reach more than 600 million. Stepping into aging society is now becoming a global phenomenon. The aging population of the world is estimated to reach almost two billion by The tremendous pressure brought by aging population to every nation, along with unsolved aging issues has come to surface and become the focus of many governments. In China, according to the estimation of The National Aging Office (2006), the population of Chinese elderly with 60 years above will reach 248 million in 2020, which is the 17.17% of the total Chinese population. By year 2050, the aging population will be more than 30% of the total population, with more than 400 million people in total. This increasing aging population has higher demand in both quality and quantity of aging social work, especially in the elderly care service for the aged, disabled elderly and the elderly. However, the slow development pace in elderly social work, the limited research in developing the elderly social work and low public awareness in the elderly social work have raised an urgent need in more researches and discussion in elderly social work. Amity Foundation is one of the earliest Chinese NGOs established following China s Reform and Opening-up to the Outside World, embarked on a journey almost 30 years ago in We prompt the Chinese education, social service, public health and rural development, etc. Aging population has been one of our long term focuses in the past, with practice in elderly service ministry, and providing the professional elderly service in order to response to the need of the aged in body, mind, social and soul, thus further explore in the new model of elderly service. The 2 nd ASSIC & ESW is host by the Amity Foundation, Heren Charity Academy of Nanjing University and JSCCF,co-organized by Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council, The Japan Association of Charitable Organization and Office of Gerontological Social Work Initiatives of Arizona State University, sponsored by Bread for the World. The conference will be held on Oct in Nanjing, with more than 20 authoritative experts in elderly social work across China mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, American, Japan, Germany and Australia invited to attend. Academy discussion will be conducted to extend the vision in elderly service, to learn the frontier concepts and methods internationally and to build a long term connection 1

2 with professionals worldwide in the field. Meanwhile, our conference also encourages participants to submit their papers to summarize and share your experiences and concepts in elderly service. 2. Conference Content A. Conference Topics: Share the status quo, trend and policy inspiration in elderly social work, discussion over elderly social work practice and suggest the direction for developing the prevention and intervention of the elderly abuse. Paper Submission: a) Submission Deadline: 20 th Sep b) Requirement: The content of the paper should be scientific, innovative and practicable. It has not been published previously, or under consideration for publication elsewhere. Please submit a paper summary (not exceeding 3,000 words) in the format of "Purpose, Method, Result and Conclusion" together with a brief introduction (not exceeding 100 words) about the first author and his/her organization/school. Paper should be submitted via or post mail.
