3 What is a scholarship? A Lincoln scholarship is the opportunity to study at New Zealand s specialist land-based university while having some or all of the cost of your study paid for. Many scholarships are awarded on your academic grades but some scholarships take into account other factors including personal qualities, financial need, where you live and the course of study that you choose. Most scholarships are awarded at the start of the academic year. Some scholarships may be paid in instalments throughout the year, others are paid as a living allowance. The majority of scholarships are tenable for one year, although a growing number are now available for the duration of your degree provided certain standards are maintained. It is well worth every student spending time exploring the scholarship options available at Lincoln as there are literally hundreds to choose from, whether you are undergraduate, postgraduate, from New Zealand or an International student. Feed the world Protect the future Live well Please note: From time to time regulations relating to a scholarship may change. Sometimes scholarships are withdrawn, while new scholarships may be added. In all cases, the scholarships database on the website will provide you with the most up-to-date information and takes priority over the contents of this booklet go to In some cases, scholarships are administered by other entities, independent of the University. Where this is noted in the booklet, please use those particular entities contact details to request an application form. If you would like advice or assistance, please contact the scholarships office [email protected] or

11 Lincoln University Global Challenges Scholarships Global Challenges Scholarships Feed the world, protect the future, live well. They are Lincoln University s causes; a response to the global challenges facing the planet today challenges such as climate change, food production and security, depleting resources, urban sprawl, the loss of biodiversity, and pollution. Because the global challenges are complex and there s no one size fits all solution, everyone needs to be involved. To this end, in 2014 Lincoln introduced the Global Challenges Programme and associated undergraduate scholarships. The Programme The Global Challenges Programme is a nationwide project, designed to have a positive effect on students and the community. It draws on the content of Lincoln University courses and research, and specifically aligns this content with secondary school curricula to educate pupils and staff. Through outreach activities and events, the programme will extend into the community, engaging a wide range of groups with grass roots initiatives aimed at helping grow understanding of the global challenges. The Scholarships Underpinning the Global Challenges Programme for schools are the Global Challenges Scholarships for school leavers. The Global Challenges Scholars will act as ambassadors of the Global Challenges Programme by actively contributing across all aspects of the programme to help make its impact real and tangible.
