I the fall qualifyig roud, studets will use foresic accoutig to idetify fraud ad errors i simulated busiesses. Their scores will be based o accurate idetificatio of issues ad speed. I the witer qualifyig roud, studets will use maagerial accoutig techiques to maximize profits. I the fial competitio at ICDC, studets will race to correctly idetify fraud ad accoutig errors as quickly as possible. 57 COMPETITIVE EVENTS INTEGRATE INTO CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION CAREER CLUSTERS AND PATHWAYS DECA s Competitive Evets Program is aliged with Natioal Curriculum Stadards i the marketig, busiess maagemet ad admiistratio, fiace, ad hospitality ad tourism career clusters. Performace idicators are specific kowledge/skills categorized by istructioal area. They are the basis of the cotet of the cluster exams ad cotet iterviews, case studies ad role-plays. The Busiess Admiistratio Core has twelve istructioal areas with performace idicators. This core is the foudatio for all of DECA s competitive evets. As evets become more specialized, they are associated with a specific career cluster ad the possibly a career pathway. At each level, cotet becomes more specialized. Each career cluster has its ow uique istructioal areas, each with performace idicators. Each pathway has specific performace idicators that represet groups of careers withi a specific career cluster. The cluster wheel o page shows istructioal areas i the Busiess Admiistratio Core, the four career clusters, ad career pathways. GLOSSARY OF TERMS Performace Idicators Specific kowledge ad skills studets are expected to address ad perform durig their competitio. Performace idicators are atioal curriculum stadards which are taught i the classroom. Istructioal Areas Broad areas of cotet kowledge (i.e., promotio, pricig, emotioal itelligece, busiess law) that are comprised of may performace idicators. Busiess Admiistratio Core The Busiess Admiistratio Core is the foudatio for all of DECA s competitive evets. Performace idicators i the Busiess Admiistratio Core are commo to all career areas ad competitive evets. Career Clusters There are sixtee (16) career clusters, each represetig a distict groupig of careers ad idustries based o the kowledge ad skills they require. DECA supports four (4) career clusters: Marketig Busiess Maagemet ad Admiistratio Fiace Hospitality ad Tourism Career Pathways Each career cluster cotais several career pathways, or specialized career areas. For example, the Fiace Career Cluster has career pathways such as Accoutig, Bakig Services, Corporate Fiace, Isurace, ad Securities ad Ivestmets. 55
