1 GORDON-CONWELL STYLE GUIDE Website and Electronic Communications INTRODUCTION Consistency is one of the most important elements of good communication. Use this style guide as the bible for how your text should appear in web and electronically communicated materials for Gordon-Conwell. SITE STRUCTURE Gordon-Conwell s website domain is From there, our site is structured using Departments. All Departments are listed below: About Us Academics Boston Campus Boston Current Students Boston Future Students Charlotte Campus Charlotte Current Students Charlotte Future Students Current Students Degree Programs Doctor of Ministry Financial Aid Future Students Giving Global Education Hamilton Campus Hamilton Current Students Hamilton Future Students Hispanic Ministries Program HMP Current Students HMP Future Students Home Page Jacksonville Campus Jacksonville Current Students Jacksonville Future Students Library Mentored Ministry Online Resources Semlink The departments have been thoughtfully structured in such a way to provide an intuitive, cohesive, and seamless experience for the user. With this experience in mind, individual departments are limited, so as to not confuse or lose the user. The main page of the Department is called the index page. Each department has its own menu structure containing parent links and child links. Parent links are the main links, and child links are the subsequent links. ABOUT US (index/parent Link) Leadership Team (Parent Link) * About Our President (Child Link) ** Office of the Provost (Child Link) Board of Trustees (Child Link) Faculty (Parent Link) Children Links may also have other Children Links beneath them. Jobs (Parent Link) Staff Openings (Child Link) Hamilton Campus (Child Link) ***
2 Charlotte Campus (Child Link) Boston Campus (Child Link) Jacksonville Campus (Child Link) Although this structure is present in the menu, it does not affect the URL. Therefore, all URLs will contain the domain, followed by the department, followed by the page name. * ** *** FONT Type: The font used throughout the site is Normal. The font has been pre-set for the entire site; therefore, do not manually change the font family through html. Size: The font size has been pre-set for the entire site; therefore, do not manually change the font size through html. For title size, see Titles and Headings below. COLORS Approved colors for Gordon-Conwell are as specified below: Red: 7C0027 Blue: LOGO SPECIFICS Gordon-Conwell s logo can be found in the following locations: White logo: Black logo: Color logo: The use of Gordon-Conwell s shield as a background for text is prohibited. PAGE SPECIFICS Titles and Headings: Each webpage must include only one Heading 1 Style and should be applied to the very first line within the body of the page. Select the text you wish to apply the style and select Heading 1 from the Paragraph Format dropdown menu. Other paragraph titles should use the other heading style tags in descending order. Lower heading styles should not be above higher heading styles. Correct Use of Headings: Incorrect Use of Headings: Heading 1 Heading 2 Heading 2 Heading 1 Heading 3 Heading 3
3 All heading styles have been pre-set for the entire site; therefore, do not manually change them through html. Links: If you are linking to a page within Gordon-Conwell s root domain, the link must be a relative link, rather than including the entire link. A relative link is one that leaves off the root domain, using only the text that follows the first forward slash. <clarify definition of relative link> Relative Link (Correct): /about/about-our-president.cfm Non-Relative Link (Incorrect): If you are linking to a document or to a URL that does not have our root domain, the link must open in a new window. All links will appear as our distinct color of red. This link color has been pre-set for the entire site; therefore, do not manually change the color through html. Lists: All lists must be stylized with List 1. This list has been pre-set for the entire site; therefore, do not manually change it through html. Header Images: See Header Images below. DOCUMENTS All documents must be in.pdf format, rather than Word. To convert a Word document into a PDF document, select Save As from the File menu. Properly name your document (see FILE-NAMING CONVENTIONS ), then select PDF from the Format dropdown menu. Click Save. FILE-NAMING CONVENTIONS It is essential that you practice proper file-naming conventions when uploading documents to Gordon-Conwell s website server. All file names must be free of spaces, using a hyphen (-) in their place. Correct File-Naming: Web-Electronic-Communications-Style- Guide.pdf Incorrect File-Naming: Web Electronic Communications Style Guide.pdf Registration Office Documents: Registration Office documents should be named using the campus abbreviation, followed by the semester abbreviation and year abbreviation, followed by the course number. 4 Semester Abbreviations: January (JA) Spring (SP) January-Spring (JASP) Summer (SU) Fall (FA) Specific Examples: Hamilton Campus: hamreg-su12-nt504.pdf Boston Campus: bosreg-su12-nt504.pdf Charlotte Campus: chareg-su12-nt504.pdf Jacksonville Campus: jaxreg-su12-nt504.pdf SIDE NAVIGATION Menu Structure: Each page displays a menu structure that is specific to the page you are on. The use of menus within pages, in place of the left-hand menu, is prohibited. All exceptions must be approved by the Communications and Marketing Office. The use of html within the menu structure is prohibited. Do not apply bold styling. Do not apply italic styling. Do not add a bulleted list. Do not use images or buttons. Blue Buttons: Three blue buttons appear on every page of Gordon-Conwell s website: Apply Today, Request Information, Degree Programs. These buttons may not be changed or customized to individual departments or pages. Get in Touch Section: The Get in Touch section is meant to convey the most accurate contact information and pertinent links to the department to which it is applied. The following Departments have their own Get in Touch sections. Hamilton Future Hamilton Current Boston Current & Future Charlotte Current & Future Jacksonville Current & Future Future Students Current Students About Us Degree Programs Doctor of Ministry Library Resources Academics Global Education Financial Aid Giving Mentored Ministry Semlink Hispanic Ministries Program Online
5 IMAGES The Communications and Marketing Office must approve all images before they are present on the Gordon-Conwell main site (on the Campusuite CMS), or on any other Gordon-Conwell electronic external communications medium (NetCommunity, HubSpot).
