1 I. Our Mission. 1 Dear student, welcome to SAA s PE program, where we believe that physical education is a vital component for the development of your physical, mental and social well-being. In our classes, you will thrive and succeed regardless of your previous experiences with physical activities or sports. We hope that while enrolled in this course, you are able to gain/improve a positive attitude and good health habits, develop values such as teamwork, leadership, tolerance & sportsmanship, and also experience the strong connection between a healthy, physically active lifestyle and your own spiritual growth and journey. It is our aim to portray a Christ-centered view of athletics as the allencompassing theme of each experience. We hope that at the conclusion of this course, such values will be instilled in your heart and continue to influence your habits throughout your entire life! II. III. Daily procedures. Each Student will 1. show up on time for prayer & warm-ups 2. be ready to participate 3. wear the school- specified attire 4. help in the set up and clean up of all materials utilized Rules and Expectations (yes, your grade is attached to these!) a. All students are expected to stand-above and display a good (noncomplaining) attitude, great sportsmanship and unselfish sharing of time and equipment with every classmate. Display good manners and courtesy to everyone! b. Cheering and positive praise for your peers is rewarded and smiled upon. c. Pay attention to instructions! (Simple, right?) d. Turn all assignments in on time. Be ready for your quizzes. Treat this class with the same importance as your other subjects. e. Damaging any part of the equipment or facility (intentionally or not) will potentially result in payment of such damage by the student(s) involved. So, please be careful. f. Do not eat or drink in the gymnasium. (No gum allowed!) You may use a sealable water-bottle or simply ask for permission to go to the water fountain. I d be glad to say yes at the appropriate time!

Students will receive 1 point per class period 1. Are you helping with setup and cleanup? 2. Are you P.E. ready? b. Participation: i. Grades updated at the end of each unit. Approximately every 2-3 weeks. 1. Did you give it your best? (10pts) 2. Did you display the best attitude? (10pts) Your score will be deducted for every time you do NOT participate. ii. Note: If you are sick, and need to be excused from active participation in class, you may present a note signed by your parents requesting for you to be a passive learner for that day. This may be done only to the extent of 3 days. A physicians note will be required after that, if an excuse is to be awarded. c. Fitness & Skill: i. Based on process, not product. ii. This grade will come from your application of critical-elements taught throughout the units, and your personal improvement in the individual skills. iii. Also the effort displayed by you during warm-ups, lesson time, and games. d. Knowledge: i. Quizzes on rules, terms & procedures of each covered activity/sport. Based on class instruction and handouts. ii. Homework assignments will be easy and fun. (but not unimportant!) V. Units to cover & Sample Unit: Each unit will last between 1-3 weeks, and may include any or all of the following components:

Guest coach/athlete o Formations Free play Organized games o Lead up games o Variations Units to cover Fitness (circuits) Soccer Volley-ball Flag Football Badminton Floor Hockey Soft-ball Gymnastics/ Acro Aerobics (tae-bo) Basketball Running active activities Others. VI. VII. Various enrichment opportunities will be offered or provided upon request throughout the quarter. No last-minute EC at the end of the quarter will be available. The points earned will be applied to the Knowledge area of your grade. Discipline Love and mutual respect will be the basis for the discipline system of this course. Everyone is expected to excel when it comes to behavior and cooperation. Please refer to the student handbook for more details. (please read, sign, detach and turn in to your instructor) I have read and accepted all points addressed in this Physical Education syllabus and shared it with my parent/guardian. 4 4 Syllabus Details specific to: Personal Fitness Class (aka. advanced PE / PE Electives ): Course/Class Description: Students will study about personal fitness and participate in a variety of exercises used to maintain the body fit. Text: Glencoe: Foundations of personal fitness, 2005 Other required materials: P.E. uniform & Athletic shoes Water bottle (1.5-2 inch) 3-ring binder & writing utensils This class will meet 5 days a week. The topics covered will vary. There will be weekly quizzes based on the assigned textbook reading and a written test at end of every unit. The final shall consist of a portfolio project. All students must use a P.E. uniform in order to participate in any exercises done in class. All students must participate. Required materials and textbook must be brought to class unless otherwise instructed by teacher. All assignments are due on date announced by the instructor. Please refer to student handbook for policy on excused absences & make up work. Please notify the office if any accommodations are necessary for students with special needs or health concerns. We will do various required field-trips (grade applied to skill & practice, as well as Participation & Attidude areas of gradebook.) Students will complete the following projects: 1. Assessing your own fitness level and lifestyle 2. Creating & following a personal workout routine and fitness plan 3. Learning how to check your blood pressure and pulse while reaching your target training zone. 4. Tracking and designing a personal, balanced diet: i.
