Featured Courses CREDIT COURSES Political Issues that Divide Canadians (POLS 1203) 3 credit hours, Tuesday, 7:00 pm - 9:50 pm Examines contemporary and enduring issues within the context of the Canadian political system. Topics may include: Quebec and national unity, aboriginal self-government, cultural and regional diversity, class conflict, and electoral reform. Framing Reality: Theory and Practice of Documentary Media (FILM 3075) 3 credit hours, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00 pm - 5:20 pm This course surveys the history and aesthetics of non-fiction filmmaking from the birth of cinema to the digital age. It will examine epistemological and ethical questions raised by documentary s encounter with reality and its attempt to present the truth. Films screened are drawn from an array of nations and range from the personal to the political as well as more experimental and avant-garde works. The course includes a film production component as students will apply what they have learned in class by producing a short non-fiction film as a final project. This course is open to students who have completed at least 30 credit hours at university level. (Cross-Listed: MAAC 3075) Introduction to Music Appreciation (MUS 2114) 3 credit hours, Thursdays, 7:00 pm - 9:50 pm Introductory course in music appreciation for the classical music lover with little or no music background. This course covers elements of music, performing media, and historical music periods from the Middle Ages to the Twentieth Century. The student will be introduced to music terminology, important composers and will develop listening skills. May require attendance to a symphony and additional lab fee. 11 CREDIT COURSES ONLINE COURSES Learn anywhere, on your own time, from any location. Choose either term-based or open entry online courses. UNB online What s the difference? Term-based online courses often have weekly scheduled learning activities or assignments in which you may work in collaborative groups or participate in discussion forums. All discussions and assignments are completed within the term. Open entry online courses allow you to enrol at any time of the year and you can take up to six months to complete most courses. You will also be able to access course content, complete quizzes, and submit assignments entirely online! (Some exceptions apply.) Featured Online Open Entry Courses Intervention Strategies and Programs for People Who Batter (FVI 3006/SOCI 3006) 3 credit hours This course will examine the major theories related to violence in intimate relationships and explore the different intervention strategies and programs which have evolved from these theories. Prerequisite: 3 ch from any SOCI 1000-level course; or permission of the instructor. Advanced Geographic Information Systems (GGE 4423) 5 credit hours This course is designed to follow on an introductory course in Geographic Information Systems (such as GGE 3423: Introduction to GIS); by offering students a deeper understanding on geographic data handling. The course is designed for students with previous experience in geographic data handling using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other mapping tools but limited skills in computer programming and data management. The potential students include: senior undergraduate and graduate students as well as professionals with expertise in Geomatics, Geography, Forestry, Earth Sciences, Geology, Education, Archaeology, History, etc. and interest in managing and analyzing geographic data.
