Sally Ellen F. Scanlon, COT Ophthalmic technicians have an important role in the patient exam, and often patient s eyes are routinely dilated as part of a work-up. Knowing when and when not to dilate a patient is important because certain signs or symptoms may be overlooked, inconvenience could be put on the patient to come back, or worse, a serious problem could be missed. Using case history examples, this course will discuss the importance of a thorough pupil assessment before dilation. 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. OVERVIEW OF CONTACT LENSES Donna D. Hughes, COMT This course will describe the different lens materials used in contact lenses as well as lens design. A review of fluorescein patterns with rigid contact lenses will be presented. Ann Rose ICD-10 not only affects coding and billing, it will impact the way technicians and physicians need to document the medical record. With the conversion of ICD-9 to ICD-10 effective October 1, 2014, technicians need to be aware of the new diagnosis codes and how it affects their job. Failure to properly document the patient chart can cause services to be billed in error which in turn can cause denials and temporary loss of income. 4:25 p.m. CLASSES ADJOURN 6:15-7:45 p.m. WELCOME RECEPTION WITH EXHIBITORS: EXHIBIT HALL (Free to meeting attendees; guest/child tickets are available at an additional fee) A link to the online program evaluation will be given to you at the meeting.
