2 Programme Structure The programmes are unique in presenting the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge in the area of networking, digital forensics and security. All student would study a common first and second year in order to develop a strong foundation in the field of network and security. This flexible design enables students to establish a foundation on which to build upon and experience an insight into the alternative pathways to develop their interest and specialise in this selected area at the end of Year 2. The third and fourth year specialises a student s knowledge and experience in the areas of either networking, security or forensics, with significant hands on experience. 2

4 Integrated Design Project In trimester B of each year, students undertake a group based integrated design project, with the aim of extending Programme related practical skills. This is a design to assist students in portfolio development, employability together with placement/careers advice. 4

5 Learning Resources GCU has the best network engineering labs in Scotland which provide an essential hands-on experience for students. In all, the school has around 22 specialist teaching labs, including Networking & Forensics labs. We have over 250 networking devices ranging from routers to wireless bridges and recently we upgraded our Ethical Hacking and Forensics labs to the latest Macs. We also provide students with an enhanced virtual learning environments, including GCU Learn and NDG Netlab. 5

6 Exchange Study Opportunities The Erasmus and IAESTE Programme that the University is part of allows students to you will gain valuable international experience, broaden your horizons, experience new cultures and discover new ways of working. Erasmus+ is of particular benefit to young people who can learn new skills to improve their employability, acquire life skills, and develop their confidence. The programmes are give students the opportunity to study abroad after their second Trimester in year 3 for a semester. IAESTE runs during the summer months for short industry/ University study opportunities available all round the world. 6

7 Industrial Placement The Programmes have an optional industrial placement period. Students wishing to take up this option will commence this placement during the academic session after their third year of the programme and continue to the taught Honours year in the session at the end of their placement period. The industrial placement will be in appropriate employment in a suitable area of digital security/computer networks. A key objective in undertaking the Industrial Placement is for students to further develop the understanding and application of their skills in a professional setting. Time Period 1 year 7
