2 Dear colleagues and researchers: We are very pleased to send you information about the First Joint Meeting on Alcohol and other Drugs of Abuse: from molecules to human disorders, to be held at the Hotel El Araucano, in Concepcion, Chile, October 16-19, This will be a joint meeting of the Latin America Research Network in Drug Abuse (LARNEDA) and the Latin American Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism (LASBRA), with support from the Millennium Scientific Initiative of the Ministerio de Economía, Fomento y Turismo of Chile, Foreign Ministry of Chile, the Pontificia Universidad Catolica of Chile, University of Concepcion and International Society for Neurochemistry, ISN. REGISTRATION DEADLINE The deadline for abstract submission and fellowship application is September 1st, The registration fees are as follows: Until September 1 st After September 1 st senior researcher : US$ 70 US$ 100 postdoctoral researcher : US$ 55 US$ 85 graduate student : US$ 45 US$ 65 undergraduate student : US$ 35 US$ 45 Accompanying guest : US$ 70 US$ 100 (actual payment will be at the arrival to the meeting, save by registering before September 1 st ) REGISTRATION FORM Please use this link (you might need to copy this into your browser): *Please note that it is requested that you fill out and send the WEB based registration form by September 1 st. This is very important for the organization of the workshop. Payment in dollars or Chilean pesos will be asked AT THE REGISTRATION DESK AFTER ARRIVAL TO THE WORKSHOP. Everybody has to pay their registration even if they are applying to a fellowship. The registration values cover the welcome cocktail (October 16 th ), coffee breaks, materials and lunches (October 17 th and 18 th ). 3

INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR NEUROCHEMISTRY (ISN) / MILLENNIUM NUCLEUS STRESS AND ADDICTION (NEDA) FELLOWSHIPS FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS AND POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS We expect that there will be several fellowships for students and postdoctoral fellows who are presenting a poster as first authors at the workshop. The fellowship will be given in US dollars to the awarded students during the workshop and are considered as partial support to cover the costs of the trip to Concepción. The number of fellowships will depend on available resources. The deadline for receiving applications for the fellowships is September 1 st, To apply for a fellowship you must send the following documents (all within a single pdf file): - A letter of intention, describing the focus of the research being conducted by the applicant and how participation in the workshop will contribute to the development of your research and/or training. - A complete fellowship application form. - A letter of support from the advisor. - A copy of the applicant s CV You must send all the information to Dr. Luis G. Aguayo to meetingconcepcion2013@gmail.com, no later than September 1 st, Although a number of fellowships for graduate students and postdocs are available through the generous support of the International Society of Neurochemistry (ISN), it is strongly advised that interested students and researchers apply to other sources of support such as national or international scientific societies. 4

Abstracts must follow the following style: Title (in upper letters), followed by author(s) last name and initials of first name(s) Example: Pérez, A.J.; Valenzuela, M. The presenting author must be the first author and his/her name should be in bold characters. Then the affiliation of authors and immediately after, please indicate the of the presenting author. The body of the abstract should be in a separate paragraph and no longer than 250 words. The abstract should state the objective of the study, briefly describe the methods used, summarize the results obtained and state the conclusions. It is not satisfactory to say, "The results will be discussed." Abstracts should emphasize the significance of results and general principles rather than ordinary methods and procedures. When experimental animals are used, the species should be stated. When relevant, the sex of experimental animals and humans should be noted. Abstracts can include an acknowledgement sentence, to indicate the financial support. Please, use standard abbreviations. When using other abbreviations, please use the entire name in the first mention followed by its abbreviation in parentheses. Avoid figures, tables and references in the text of the abstract. INSTRUCTIONS FOR POSTERS Poster maximal size should be 160 cm high and 85 cm wide. Title - Prepare a banner for the top of the poster indicating the abstract title, author(s) and affiliation(s). Place an introduction at the upper left and a conclusion at the lower right, both in large type. Instructions for presenting your poster at the WORKSHOP: Poster must be on the corresponding board at 9:00 am of the day of presentation and removed after poster session. Presenting authors are required at the board during the assigned time. 6
