4 1.1 Preparing for Installation To guarantee a successful installation, before you start installing DraftSight, it s important that you review your system requirements, understand administrative permission requirements, and address the points referenced below. 1.1.A Review System Requirements Check if the computer on which you are going to install DraftSight meets the system requirements. Not meeting the system requirements might originate in the future performance problems, and/or errors, either when using DraftSight or your Operating System. For more information on the system requirements, see System Requirements (page 22). 1.1.B Administrative Permissions Requirements We recommend that the DraftSight installation and activation, is performed by a user with administrator permissions. You do not need to have domain administrative permissions. If you are installing in a network based computer, or if in doubt, we recommend you check with your local network administrator if you have permissions to do so. To run DraftSight, you won t need administrator permissions. You can run the program as a standard user with limited permissions. 1.1.C Dealing with Security Software Note that anti virus programs sometimes can be an obstacle to software installation and activation, so you may want to disable any anti virus protection you have running on your system. Add DraftSight to the anti virus trusted programs list, to the trusted websites list, and allow it through any active firewall. If you experience problems when performing the DraftSight activation, please refer to the troubleshooting section in this guide, or to the Installation and Activation Guide blog post in the DraftSight Community ( 1.1.D How to Avoid Data Loss During Installation The DraftSight installation process may stop if some applications are running. Close all applications to avoid possible data loss or corruption. Shut down all the unnecessary programs that are running in your system tray. Usually if you right click an icon with your mouse you'll get a menu that helps you to exit the software. If you are using customization files within DraftSight, and/or customized environments, backup these files before initiate the installation. 1.1.E Update Keeping your Custom Settings from Previous Versions You can keep your custom settings and files from previous DraftSight releases. It is recommended that you migrate from a previous release when a new one is available. Every release includes fixes for previously reported issues, and new features. All your custom settings can be kept, and used in the new release. When you migrate to a new DraftSight version, you will receive the following message: The message is displayed to ask whether to keep the earlier application folder (containing your customised files) or not. If you click Yes, the settings or customizations made in the earlier version installed are erased and a new folder with new default settings is created. If you click No, then the previous customizations and settings are retained. 4

NOTE: You must restart DraftSight, so the change becomes effective. To set the language of the system: 1. Type language at the command prompt. 2. Specify a number for the language to use: o 0: Operating system default language o 1: German o 2: English o 3: Turkish o 4: Hungarian o 5: Polish o 6: Japanese o 7: French o 8: Chinese (Traditional) o 9: Chinese (Simplified) o 10: Italian o 11: Spanish o 12: Greek o 13: Korean o 14: Vietnamese o 15: Catalan o 16: Thai o 17: Dutch o 18: Russian o 19: Portuguese o 20: Czech 3. Save your work and type Exit to exit the software. 4. Restart the software. 5. The System now uses the specified language. 3.1.K Reinstall or Repair DraftSight If you accidentally deleted or altered files that are required by DraftSight, the application might not perform correctly, and you might receive error messages when you try to execute a command or find a file. You can attempt to fix this problem by reinstalling or repairing DraftSight. The reinstallation or repair uses the features that were part of the installation pack available when you initially installed the program. To reinstall DraftSight 1. In the Control Panel (Windows), double click add or remove programs. 2. In the Add or Remove Programs window, select DraftSight, and then click uninstall. 3. Download the DraftSight installer, or locate on your computer the installer file you have downloaded previously. 4. Double click on the installer. The DraftSight Installation Wizard will be launched. 5. Follow the prompts. 6. Click Finish. To repair DraftSight 1. Download the DraftSight installer, or locate in your computer the installer file you have downloaded previously. 2. Double click on the installer. The DraftSight Installation Wizard re opens giving you the option to repair DraftSight. 3. Click Repair DraftSight. 4. Click Finish. 27

28 3.1.L Uninstall DraftSight When you uninstall DraftSight, all components are removed. This means that even if you've previously added or removed components, or if you've reinstalled or repaired DraftSight, the uninstall process removes all DraftSight installation files from your system. To uninstall DraftSight 1. In the Control Panel (Windows), click Add or Remove Programs. 2. In the Add or Remove Programs window, select DraftSight, and click uninstall DraftSight. 3. On the Uninstall DraftSight page click Next to remove DraftSight from the system. 4. When informed that the product has been successfully uninstalled, click Finish. 3.2 Activation Issues This section outlines common issues and their solutions with regards to DraftSight activation, and licensing. You can also refer to the Installation and Activation Blog post or to the iquestions Section in the DraftSight Community. 3.2.A Why do I need to Activate? What information am I sending? During the activation process, the only data collected is the address you provide. This is done, so the number of DraftSight users world wide can be monitored. No other type of data is submitted. 3.2.B Multiple User Accounts on one Computer The DraftSight activation must be performed by each user, as it s not machine based. This means that if you have multiple users, with different accounts, using the same PC, and all need to use DraftSight, each one needs to active the product individually on each user account. 3.2.C I received an error message Activation Server not available. Please check your Internet connection, but my Internet connection is working. The DraftSight activation might be being blocked by active security settings or software. Also, if you are installing DraftSight on a network environment, this might be due to Local Area Network/Security Settings, or Proxy Settings. To troubleshoot this issue, please refer to the Installation and Activation Blog Post in the DraftSight Community, and to the activation overview document included. Also refer to the DraftSight activation section in this document. We recommend you inform your Local Network Administrator that you are installing DraftSight. Also, he can help you set a security exclusion for DraftSight so that the activation can be completed. 3.2.D I receive an error message: There was an error processing your registration. When you were performing the DraftSight activation, you clicked the link in the activation confirmation E mail, and received this error message: There was an error process your registration. Visit the DraftSight Community, and review the iquestions for possible solutions, or to report a problem. This is a server side activation error and might indicate that when you tried to perform the DraftSight activation, the activation server was going through maintenance or there was a temporary network problem. In this case, allow reasonable time for the issue be addressed, and try to activate later, using the link on the confirmation . If the problem persists in the next 24 hours, assume the registry process failed, and perform the activation with a different E mail address. 28

29 3.2.E I did not received the Activation Confirmation E mail Some providers, or applications might filter s from unknown senders and mark them as SPAM (false positives). Check the SPAM folder of your mailbox, as the activation confirmation mail might have been filtered. If the problem persists in the next 24 hours, assume the registry process failed, and perform the activation using a different E mail address. 3.2.F What is the difference between the Free Version license and a Premium/network license? The free version is registered and activated to an individual user. While the software can be installed on multiple workstations, the registration only allows one system to be operational. If you need to run more systems, you need to download/install the free version, and activate the product individually, or consider converting to a network license (DraftSight Premium Pack). Network licensed products rely upon a Network License Manager to manage the software licenses. The software can be installed and run on multiple workstations, beyond the maximum number of licenses you ve purchased. The Network License Manager allows concurrent/floating licensing and checks out licenses until they are all in use. No more workstations can run the program until a license is checked in. If you need to run DraftSight in more workstations, you can purchase additional licenses for the Network License Manager to maintain. 3.2.G What is the benefit to using a network version (Premium Package)? The DraftSight Premium Package is recommended for large Drafting/Design Production, Educational Environments, and lab environments. The main advantage is that you can install DraftSight on more systems than the number of licenses you have purchased (for example, purchasing 25 licenses but installing on 40 workstations). At any one time, products will run on the maximum number of systems for which you have licenses. This means you get a true floating license. If software needs to be run on more systems, additional licenses can be purchased. Registration and activation occurs only once and the licenses are maintained on your Network License Server. Also, you have access to: Telephone support (Toll free number for the U.S. and Canada, a fee based international number and a fee UKbased number, Monday Friday, 7 AM to 10 PM UTC.) API support LISP, COM, and more to follow support Remote desktop sharing Web support Services offered within online Community Support For more information, visit for quote/ 3.2.H What Information is collected by DraftSight? We understand the concerns regarding personal and/or business data. The Information provided is not disclosed at any point, or used outside the ranges mentioned below. Dassault Systemes uses the computer specific information only to verify that your product is used within the scope allowed by the DraftSight End User License Agreement (EULA). The information is stored in a database and used only for product activation. The DraftSight activation process is a secure and anonymous one time process. After activation is complete, the activation technology in the product never contacts DraftSight except with your express knowledge and consent. DraftSight collects the minimum information required to successfully verify the product license for each product installation, which includes: the product serial number, name, version, and language; the operating system name, version, and language; and your computer s processor and hard disk type. This information is combined, encrypted, and then sent to DraftSight for verification. DraftSight also uses the industry standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to transmit data to product activation servers that are both physically secure and have limited employee access. 29

30 3.2.I What is Web Browser and Internet Connection used for? You need an active internet connection and web browser to download DraftSight, and perform the DraftSight activation. After installing the product, when you launch DraftSight the first time, you will be prompted to activate DraftSight. You can choose to activate later, and use it during a 30 days trial period. If you choose to activate DraftSight, you will need an active internet connection, and a web browser to perform the activation. Once you ve entered your registration data (E mail address) and submitted it to Dassault Systemes, an activation E mail is generated by the activation server, who sends a confirmation E mail to the E mail address you provided. Click the link in this confirmation E mail, and you will not be prompted again during start up. 3.3 Uninstall and Maintenance Issues This section outlines common issues and their solutions with regards to adding and removing customized files, reinstalling or repairing your installation, and uninstalling products. 3.3.A When should I reinstall DraftSight instead of repair the Installation? You should reinstall DraftSight if you accidentally delete or alter files that are required by the program. Missing or altered files will adversely affect the performance of your product and cause error messages when you try to execute a command or find a file. If an attempt to repair an installation fails, reinstalling is the next best option. Make sure you backup any customization files you are using to avoid losing data. 3.3.B After repairing my installation, is it possible to recover my settings? Custom settings can be exported and later re imported to the same system in case you have to repair the installation of your program. For more detailed information regarding exporting and importing custom settings, see customizations and settings backup (page15), or refer to the DraftSight Help. 3.3.C When I uninstall my software, what files are left on my system? If you uninstall the product, some files will remain on your system such as files you ve created or edited like drawings or custom menus. Your product activation information also stays on your workstation when you uninstall your product. If you reinstall on the same workstation, the license information remains valid and you do not have to reactivate the product, except on the expected re activation periods. 30
