2 Vision (Two Sides) Every Indiana citizen will have access to the information, education, and skills required for long-term career success Every Indiana business will be able to find the educated and skilled workforce necessary to compete successfully in the global economy and to keep and grow jobs in Indiana

3 Meta-Goal At least 60 percent of Indiana s workforce will have the post-secondary knowledge, skills, and credentials demanded within Indiana s economy by 2025

5 The Challenge: Building Collective Skills 1 in 6 Hoosiers lacks a high school diploma 1 in 3 Hoosiers lacks post secondary skills 40% of businesses indicate difficulty finding talent

6 State Plan Indiana Career Council Brought together stakeholders from employer community, state agencies and education community Align and coordinate education, job skills development, and career training Ensure education and training meets existing and future needs of state s employers

8 Demand-Driven Systems and Investments Objective 1: Adopt a sector-based approach that directly aligns education and training with the needs of Indiana s priority sectors Strategies: Link investments to priority sectors Launch regional sector partnerships Establish framework; Works Councils as conveners Career Counseling as key to implementation

9 Client-and Student-centric Services Objective 2: Link career pathways to Indiana s high wage, high demand careers for students and workers across the K12, post-secondary, and adult systems Strategies: Improve Foundational Skills Increase students awareness of career opportunities Improve career counseling

10 Client-and Student-centric Services Objective 3: Increase the number of students and adults that attain post-secondary skill certifications Strategies: Return and Complete program Improve retention and completion at Indiana s two year colleges

11 Client-and Student-centric Services Objective 4: Elevate the importance of work-based learning Strategies: Incentivize businesses to provide more work-based learning opportunities Internships, externships, work experience, apprenticeships, etc. Challenge to add 10,000 new internships within 3 years Task INK with identifying a method for tracking workbased learning experiences

12 System Alignment Objective 5: Provide a seamless system of partners that provide client-centric and student-centric services Strategies: Establish common, dashboard metrics for system partners Increase service integration and resource sharing

13 Career Council s Pathways Taskforce Pathway Systems Definitions of design and implementation Expand programs of study to include work and learn experiences Pathway Systems - defined as collective skills, knowledge and experience that include coursework with all other experiences and skills that fit within Include career counseling Include up to date career information Pathways for all Workshops this fall to engage in Pathways Innovation Network

14 Pathways Taskforce Sector Strategies Document that shares relevant definitions see appendix A for examples of success Consider high demand markets of today and those emerging Resolution passed 6/15 by Career Council: Priority Now, Priority Future Catalyze sector partnerships to identify common skill gaps Create strategies on how to address these gaps Planning grants will be available
