When something goes wrong, we feel vulnerable, anxious or even afraid. At such moments, we need a caring, compassionate, skilled professional focused on quality patient-centered care. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree prepares you for leadership in managing complex patient care. It equips compassionate individuals to participate as members of the health care team. And if you want to specialize, Union College s BSN degree is a great start for those interested in pursuing graduate degrees My mother is a graduate of the Union College nursing program, so when I decided I wanted to be a nurse, there was never a question of where I would study. I love working with people and had only imagined that I would work at the bedside, but soon discovered that I had a passion for leadership and God opened doors to wonderful opportunities. The strength of my education at Union College provided a foundation that has supported me in accomplishing things that I had never imagined would be part of my career as a nurse. At Union, you ll be making a difference. Granted, you can study nursing at any number of places but there s a difference here and we can back it up! We believe the body is a divine gift which affects everything we do. It affects our teachers and why they do what they do. It affects our students and what motivates them. It affects our curriculum. At Union College, nursing is a calling, not a job and we take that call seriously. We need a great nurse and there simply aren t enough of them! as nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse specialists, nursing professors and nursing administrators. We were the first BSN program in the state of Nebraska and among Adventist higher education. We are fully accredited from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and our graduates are qualified to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Union nursing graduates do well on the NCLEX-RN test the first time. In fact, our graduating classes consistently have one of the highest first-time NCLEX pass rates of the 14 nursing schools in Nebraska well above the national average. Don t get stuck on a waiting list to start nursing school. At Union, we enroll new nursing classes in both August and January. But for those high-risk situations that you wouldn t want to practice on a real person, Union has a state-of-the-art simulation center. Our simulation center features SimMan 3G, which acts like a real patient in every possible way: talking, bleeding, seizing and reacting just like a human to treatments and drugs. The simulation center provides the opportunity for nursing students to demonstrate critical thinking, clinical reasoning and nursing judgment.

Students notice the difference almost immediately, and even their families can see it without trying graduate now a telemetry nurse at St. Mary s Regional Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colo. You don t have to be a nurse to help people, but it sure helps. After the earthquake in Haiti, aid organizations invited Union students to participate in relief efforts because they knew our training and preparation matched our enthusiasm for service graduate now an emergency department nurse at Saint Luke s East in Lee s Summit, Mo. The faculty at Union College, both in my general education courses and in the nursing program, not only molded me into a top-notch nurse, but they also shaped the wife, mother and Christian I am today. Registered nurses can work in any number of specialties and serve as front line personnel in health care organizations to provide hands-on treatment and education to people in their time of need. Nurses serve as leaders within the interprofessional health care team to plan, coordinate, implement, evaluate and promote safe, high-quality care for patients and families. We love it the difference, that is though we don t always know what to call it. What s more, we re not exactly sure what it is. But whatever it is, it s here and it s life-changing. We are a Seventh-day Adventist school and our faith is part of it. You don t have to be an Adventist to attend here, and we think you ll like our focus on you as a whole person your learning experience, your health and your relationships. Working alongside physicians in mobile clinics was an emotional experience. It s hard to comprehend what our patients had been through. I ve learned that no matter how hard I try, I can t heal the world.
