How many Rail/Ocean rates do I have for hazardous cargo moving through Los Angeles? These are examples of broad query reports that Pricing Managers have asked us to generate. Now, RateBASE empowers your authorized users to execute these types of queries themselves, quickly and efficiently. Query for ports and/or points Sometimes you want only port rates and sometimes you want only door rates. But often you want to evaluate any rate published from a specific location regardless of whether they apply from the carrier s CY or the shipper s door. RateBASE allows you to execute all three of the above queries.

3 Query Results - Rates Found Download rates query results in Spreadsheet format All-query results are available in downloadable spreadsheets for price management, margin analysis and other analytical needs. Analytical reports are more useful when you can download them for use with common desktop analytical tools. RateBASE query results can be downloaded and saved in a common csv format that easily imports into most desktop spreadsheet and database products. 4 Save queries and rate quotes for analysis and future use Use preassigned Rate Quote templates to save time and provide a consistent appearance to your rate quotations. Use the RateBASE or fax generator to instantly send the quote and automatically save it for future reference by the sender or pricing manager.

5 Better Quick-calcs for rate comparisons Picture the scenario where you are comparing rates for several different commodities. Some are quoted on a W/M basis while others apply per container. RateBASE lets you select several rates to Quick-Calc for a side-by-side Total Freight comparison. Quick-calc saves you time by inserting consistent default values for required rating parameters, such as weight and volume. It isn t intended to be as exact as a Full-Calc operation, where you insert the actual shipping parameters, but it is just the ticket to quickly see how surcharges apply and how the rates compare. RateBASE users can set and edit their own default settings, so Quick-Calc provides meaningful answers for a variety of rating schemes. Quicker access to Full-calc operation Our older TariffBASE/PLUS Tariff product required users to execute a Quick-Calc before supplying actual shipping values and continuing on to an exact fully-calculated rate. Clients who use our system for production rating have asked us to reduce the keystrokes necessary to achieve a final answer. RateBASE responds by providing direct access to Full-Calc from the rate selection screen. As with Quick-Calc, users can select one or several rates to calculate at a time. Execute quick-calc or full-calc on several rates at a time to compare fully calculated bottom line costs Ocean freight rates alone usually do not provide an accurate comparison of total shipping costs. RateBASE allows you to select several rates at a time for an accurate total-cost comparison. Use the full-calc option when you know the exact freighting parameters, or let our quick-calc option supply default parameters to generate approximate all-in costs.

6 Complete calculation of every type of ocean surcharge RateBASE builds on the tested calculation technology of our previous Plus Tariff and TariffBASE products and goes beyond it to accommodate all the pricing schemes found in today s ocean service contracts. Have you required carriers to fix surcharges at a given level, or cap them at a slightly higher amount? Do your surcharge costs vary in accordance with the amounts published in carriers governing rules tariffs, or are they all-inclusive until the published surcharges exceed a certain amount? All of these scenarios appear in ocean service contracts and all provide different problems for rate retrieval systems. PCTB understands the details and combines a superior product and professional service to assure that RateBASE provides your users timely and accurate rates when and where they need them. Include or Exclude FAK & NOS in Commodity Keyword searches Ocean service contracts often include Cargo, NOS or FAK rates in addition to itemized Bullet rates on specific commodities. When searching rates for a specific commodity offered by several carriers, you do not always know if the best rates will be found in a specific description offered by one carrier or a generic description offered by another. RateBASE offers a simple checkbox to let you determine if you want to include NOS and FAK rates in your query results.

8 Quickly Compare Buy and Sell rates for further analysis The ability to access buy-rates and sell rates in a single query, coupled with the RateBASE ability to fully calculate selected rates and download results in spreadsheet format, gives your staff an exceptional tool for managing rates and pricing margins. The search for pyro returns contract rates for Pyrotechnic Supplies and, because the Include Cargo NOS option was checked, it also returns relevant Tariff rates. The quick-calc facility enabled the user to quickly compare the relevant rates on an all-in basis.

9 Multi-factor searches find all possible routings Vessel operators often supplement their specifically published port-to-port and point-to-point rates with add-on rates found in Inland Tables and Outport Arbitrary rules. Our Multi-Factor Query finds all potential routes every time, including published point-to-point rates and all rates constructed over applicable via ports. For example, the following picture represents a response to a query for Machinery from City of Commerce to Yap. While the tariff being queried contains no through rates from City of Commerce, it does contain an Inland Zip Code Table which allows shippers to construct a rate from City of Commerce over US West Coast Base Ports. RateBASE does the search and the math and automatically returns the following response. A simple click on a selected total freight charge shows the complete break down of the freight charges, including the Inland addon.

10 Customization Enhanced security enables you to restrict content and features RateBASE is a comprehensive product designed to serve all of your rate management needs. But not all of your users need access to all of the rates in your system, or to all of the ways of accessing those rates. RateBASE lets you deliver the right amount of content and features required to meet a user s needs without allowing access to non-essential or confidential information, or advanced features not needed by a typical retriever. The Functions Access screen allows you to control the search options that appear on each of the RateBASE search screens. For example, if a user is not entitled to view contracts, they do not see the Contract menu option. The picture below depicts the privileges assigned to a management user who needs access to almost all functions. At the other end of the spectrum, a public user would be granted much more limited access.

11 Match content and features to the needs of your users. Each PCTB client is entitled to one Public User ID, unrestricted with regard to the number of concurrent users who may query your rates at any given time. This ID is designed to provide access to the general public, your customers and your staff and agents who occasionally wish to view your public tariffs. It does not allow access to confidential pricing matter, such as your buyside or sell-side contracts, and it does not provide access to any of RateBASE s enhanced features, such as Rate Quote, Saved Queries, Download Rates to Spreadsheet. It can be customized with your company logo and can be accessed directly from a link on your company web site. The figure below depicts a Public User with access only to public tariffs. The menu bar has no reference to Contracts or Essential Terms and the Tariff/Contract selection box only allows the user to search Tariff rates. To supplement the Public Access ID, your Company Administrator can establish additional individual IDs to provide the exact combination of content and features needed to support your internal pricing and rating functions. Users can be allowed to access those Tariffs, Sell-Side Contracts and Buy-Side Contracts that they need to perform their job. Your European agents may have no need to see your Asia contracts, or your Production Rating Staff may have no need to access your Buy-Side Contract rates. In either case, you can customize the content to meet their need-to-know. The figure below depicts a user with access to Tariffs, Contracts and Buy-Side Contracts.

12 Users can control their own passwords and start page, saved queries and quotes, and set their own default values for Quick Calc rate comparisons Each RateBASE user has a home-page that allows them to customize the product for their optimum use. Do you run the same query every week? Now you can define it once and save it for future use. Do you need to make copies of all the rate quotes to FAX or to clients? Now you can save them in RateBASE for your records or for review by yourself or others. Do you want to always go to a particular page on log-in? These are several of the individual preferences that your users can set to make RateBASE more useful for their every day use. Brand RateBASE with your logo for customer-facing visibility RateBASE security settings allow your administrator to brand the screens with your logo. Your Company Administrator can simply paste your logo file on the Company Details screen and RateBASE does the rest. On this same page, you can create standardized header and footer messages to appear on all RateBASE generated rate quotes. These messages can be further customized by individual users.

13 XML and Web Service interfaces will allow RateBASE to act as the unseen rating engine for your proprietary freight management systems Booking systems, documentation and other logistics packages can all benefit from an accurate rating engine. But designing a system that can handle the sophisticated pricing structures found in typical ocean tariffs and service contracts is a monumental task. And the constant updating of data necessary to support it is often underestimated. So license RateBASE and use a behind-thescene gateway to empower your existing booking, documentation and auditing processes.
