Please congratulate these fine artists on this great achievement! It is now 2016 and time to order your diploma, cap and gown for commencement! This week, Jan. 11th -15th all seniors must submit their order online using the Diploma, Cap & Gown order link which is now on our PCSH website. You will be asked to enter your full legal name including your middle name, height and weight. There is no charge for this, and we provide all seniors who participate in the PCSH commencement ceremony on June 11th with a gown, cap and standard tassel free of charge. Your diploma, cap and gown order is due by Friday, January 15th. Even if you are not sure you will participate in the commencement ceremony, you must submit this order to ensure a diploma is ordered for you. 2 Park Center's WE Act group will meet Thursday, January 14th at 2:10pm in room 110 to plan activities that help us meet our two WE Day commitments: fighting poverty locally and providing clean water for a community in Haiti. Please join us and bring a friend! Valentine s Day is just around the corner! Show that special someone you care by buying them a carnation!!! Carnations will be on sale beginning Monday, January 11th at all 3 lunches. Carnations are $1.00 a piece and will be delivered on Friday, February 12th during 7th hour. Interested in competing on the ProStart Culinary Team? Informational meeting Thursday, January 14th at 2:10pm in the Forum Room. Details about participating will be outlined, plus the viewing of the film: Pressure Cooker; the story of a Philadelphia, PA high school s road to competition. What: Gymnastics When: Thursday, January 14 Where: Park Center West Gym Cost: $1 Come out and support our gymnasts, wear your green and gold, and show your PIRATE PRIDE! There will be a Historically Black College Fair on Monday, January 18th from 3:00-6:30PM at St. Peter's AME Church in Minneapolis. Learn about who attends HBUC's, hear from graduates, make connections with college admissions officers and participate in a scholarship boot camp. Find out why a HBCU might be right for you! Yearbooks will be on sale from starting Monday, January 18th through January 29th during all lunches. The cost of the yearbook is still $40!! This is the last time this school year that the books will be at this price. If you do not purchase your book now we will not guarantee you will be able to purchase a book at the end of the school year. Slam dunk tryouts will be held in the North Gym at 2:05 on Tuesday, January 19th. You must show in order to be put into the contest during the pepfest. Contact Mr. Kallevig with any questions. Grab 10 of your best friends and sign up for the Big Base tournament that is happening next Wednesday, January 20th! The cost is $2 per person or $20 per team. Each team member MUST turn in a waiver and each team needs to submit a form, as well. For players, rules start at 6:30; for spectators the games begin at 7. Turn in forms and money by Tuesday the 19th to Ms. Gagnon in room 100 if you want to play.
3 Fire and Ice Snodaze Dance is January 23, 2016 from 7:30-10:30pm at Park Center. -$10 tickets with ID sold at all three lunches. -No tickets sold at the door. -Bring a photo ID and your ticket to be admitted to the dance. -Guest forms available at the ticket table in the cafeteria. Eligible students and their parents who wish to consider the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program for the school year are invited to attend one of the sessions listed below. Thursday, Feb 4 at 6:00p.m. in Forum Room Thursday, Feb 11 at 4:30p.m. in Forum Room Each session will be facilitated by a PCSH counselor and will cover all of the different factors that play into a decision to choose PSEO as one s educational choice. The sophomore class cabinet is hosting the annual Pennies for Patients drive to raise money for cancer research. Please donate your spare change or more during your first hour class now through February 5. If the school raises over $500, the classroom with the highest total will win a pizza party. CCRC Announcements: The University of Minnesota will again be offering the Share My App Program for fall semester The Share My App Program works like this: All fall 2016 freshman applicants who have submitted a complete admission application to the Twin Cites campus may also be considered for admission at one or more of the U of M's other campuses (Crookston, Duluth, Morris, and Rochester) with no additional application and no additional application fee. All students will be directed to z.umn.edu/sharemyapp for more information about the program and to submit their request to participate. The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity has joined forces with the University of Minnesota to offer a free ACT and SAT review course for students from historically underrepresented groups, including minorities and female students. The course runs for 10 weeks, meeting on Saturdays- starting January 9th and includes. Applications and more information are available in the CCRC. BrookLynk is where business needs meet youth experience. Students ages can participate in work readiness training and experiential employment opportunities during a six to eight week paid internship. Interns explore diverse career interests, gain valuable on the job skills, make strong professional connections and prepare for meaningful careers. Sign up in the CCRC to attend this mini session on Monday, January 11th at 10:00AM.
4 The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Aid. Seniors, regardless of your income, all families should complete the FAFSA annually because all federal financial aid and most state and institutional aid require it. On Tuesday, January 12th the CCRC will be hosting two mini sessions on how to complete the online FAFSA form. Sign up to attend either the 9:00AM or 1:00PM presentation. The ACCUPLACER Test will you be taking one? Accuplacer is a suite of tests that quickly, accurately and efficiently assesses reading, writing, math and computer skills. This test is used by college academic advisors and counselors to place you into college courses that meets your skill level. Students whose ACT scores are lower than the following range will need to take the Accuplacer: English 17 and below, reading 20 and below, math 21 and below. Sign up to attend a mini session in the CCRC on Friday, January 15th at 1:00pm to learn where to find resources to prepare you to do your best on these tests! Come and learn why you must complete this application and how to do it. Thursday, January 28th at 8:30AM MnSCU - Two Year Occupational Grant Program. Minnesota State College and Universities now have a Two Year MnSCU Occupational Grant Pilot Program. This program provides financial assistance to students enrolled in qualifying career and technical programs at MnSCU two-year colleges so that students can complete the program within two years or less and find employment in a high-demand occupation. Qualifying occupations include CyberSecurity, Criminal Justice, Dental Assisting, Diesel and Heavy
5 Equipment Technology, Healthcare Technology, Small Engine Technology, Medical Assistant, Robotics Technology, Accounting, Cosmetology and many, many more. Sign up in the CCRC to attend this mini session to hear more about this exciting two year grant program. A representative from HTC will be here on Wednesday, February 3rd at 8:00AM to answer questions about their school and their programs, and to help students fill out on-the-spot online applications for admission. Information will also be provided about the Accuplacer Test that many students must take for course placement. You must sign up in the CCRC to attend this meeting. Seniors and their parents are invited to attend a FAFSA presentation provided by a representative from the Minnesota Office of Higher Education at 6:30PM in Park Center Teaching Lab on Thursday, February 4 th during conferences and Thursday, February 11 th during registration conferences. 11 th grade: During conferences on Thursday, February 4 th, parents of our current 11 th grade students will have an opportunity to learn more about Genesys Works which offers paid internships for juniors during their senior year. They provide free training in professional and computer skills, a paid corporate internship and free college guidance. Information about Genesys Works will be provided at 3:30PM and 5:30PM in the College and Career Resource Center. Tuesday, February 9th at 10:30AM Interview Skills. During the week of February 23rd most Park Center seniors will participate in a mock interview with a professional from our community. To help you be prepared for your interview the CCRC has scheduled an Interview Skills mini session. Come and refine your skills so you will shine during your interview. Sign up in the CCRC to attend. Scholarship Opportunities: o Wastebasket Review Scholarship application deadline of January 21st is quickly approaching! This scholarship opportunity is available to Osseo School District students only.
