1. Features of RCCMD ADVANCED 1.1. Abstract In the personal computer to which the power supply is supplied by UPS, a dirty shutdown that the computer data broken from a sudden power failure and a momentary power failure and hardware breaks down can be prevented by using NetpowerView F and the Web/SNMP card communicated with UPS. RCCMD ADVANCED can display the content of the event generation sent from the shutdown and RCCMD ADVANCED of remote PC by way of the network to remote PC as forwarding and a pop up message in the environment like the above-mentioned. Either the following is necessary to use this software. UPS + NetpowerView F UPS (Netpower Protect, GX100, GX200) NetpowerView F (UPS Management software, UPSMAN) Exclusive use RS-232C Cable LAN Cable UPS + Web/SNMP Card UPS (Netpower Protect, J, GX100, GX200) Web/SNMP Card (UPS Management Card) LAN Cable System Requirements RCCMD ADVANCED used in the following system environments. CPU (Pentium) 200MH or greater RAM 128MB or greater Disk space on HD 100MB or greater Operation Systems The following OS is supported in RCCMD ADVANCED for Windows. Windows NT 4.0 Windows 2000 Server / Professional Windows XP Professional (without SP / SP1 / SP2) Windows Server 2003 Web Edition with SP1 Windows Server 2003 R2 (Standard Edition / Enterprise Edition) Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 All the above OS are only an English version. 3

Explanation words [UPS Uninterruptible Power Supply ] It is a preliminary power-supply unit that prevents hardware from the computer data's disappearing and breaking down due to a sudden power failure and a momentary power failure. Because the power supply is secured during the fixed time with the battery, data can be preserved between those. [NetpowerView F It is a package that the UPS monitor program etc. that operated the start of UPS by the state watch of the UPS management program that controls UPS (Netpower Protect series, GX100 series, and GX200 series) with PC and UPS and schedules and stops started. [Web/SNMP Card It is UPS management card for the network where can it install in UPS (Netpower Protect series, J series, GX100 series, and GX200 series), the state of UPS be confirmed from Web a browser, and UPS be controlled. [Dirty shutdown] The system is rapidly stopped without stepping on a usual end procedure. For instance, the power supply from the power supply origin of the personal computer is intercepted, and the state when power supply OFF is suddenly done is indicated. For this case, might it become an error, data disappear, and hardware break down occasionally because the state of the file that remains in the memory of OS is not correctly reflected in the hard disk. [Event] The content when UPS causes some changes in managing UPS is indicated. Please refer to [4 Contents of event] for details of the event. UPSMAN It is software to always do UPS and the communication with one of the software being made a package by NetpowerView F, and to control UPS. 4

1.2. Function The function of RCCMD ADVANCED is following. System safety shutdown if received shutdown signal. (RCCMD) The RCCMD transmission origin (Web/SNMP card, UPSMAN, and RCCMD ADVANCED) is regularly checked. (Operation check an upper node) Displays pop up messages by way of the network. Message Echo Doing the system shutdown of remote pc. (RCCMD Echo) The event generation message by the Trap reception is notified by the pop up message. (Receives Trap The generation event is recorded in a local log and the system log. (Logging When the event is generated, the batch file of each event is executed. (Execute program) A configuration file and a local log file of RCCMD ADVANCED can be taken by way of the network. Getting remote files Selection of shutdown method. "Standard shutdown" or "Hibernation shutdown" Shutdown Mode) The terminal that does a role the parent server to transmit Shutdown signal (RCCMD) is said parents used here to the personal computer that installs RCCMD ADVANCED. 5

Details of function RCCMD It keeps always waiting for the reception of Shutdown signal (RCCMD) when the service of RCCMD ADVANCED is begun, and if Shutdown signal (RCCMD) is received, the system is ended safely. Moreover, when Shutdown signal (RCCMD) is received, the system can be shutdown even in the state that the login screen is displayed without logging in Windows. Running check of upper node RCCMD ADVANCED sets Shutdown signal (RCCMD) transmission origin to the setting to be observed, and checks whether the watch object operates at 10 sec cycles. Chiefly, upper node is set to the watch object. It can be set whether to do the display and the shutdown by the pop up message when the communication between the watch and the title node became interrupted and when the movement of the Web/SNMP card and UPSMAN is not confirmed. Message Echo, RCCMD Echo The function named ECHO is provided in RCCMD ADVANCED, and the content of Shutdown signal (RCCMD) and the received Trap message can be transmitted to other terminals by way of the network. The numbers of ECHO that can be set with one RCCMD ADVANCED can respectively be set to Shutdown signal (RCCMD) and the event message to 20. Moreover, the message received with Message ECHO can forward it to other terminals by ECHO. Receives Trap When the permission of the Trap reception is set to turning on, event information on UPS can be received with Trap. To receive Trap, service "SNMP Trap Service" recommends to be installed. After installing service "SNMP Trap Service" receives Trap, it is displayed on the screen early though the Trap reception is possible even if service "SNMP Trap Service" is not installed. Please refer to " SNMP Trap Service" for details of SNMP Trap Service. It doesn't correspond to the Trap reception function in RCCMD ADVANCED for Windows 98. ECHO of the message can be received. 6

Logging When the state of the title node after it is set to the watch object (operation and immovable work) and ECHO are received, the content is left for a local log and the system log. A local log file can do the confirmation and the print by using LogViewer (Or, the example of the text editor: notepad.exe). Please refer to [3.8 ] for details of LogViewer. Please refer to [3.10 for the reference method of the system log. Execute program When the message is received, an external program of each contents of the event of the message can be executed. The setting of an external program can execute two or more external programs for the content of the event of one because it sets it with the batch file. Please refer to [3.7.Program] for details of the edit of the batch file. Getting remote files A configuration file and a local log file can be collected by way of the network in RCCMD ADVANCED. As a result, the setting of RCCMD ADVANCED connected with the network can be confirmed from one PC, and the log file be confirmed. Please refer to [3.9 Getting remote files] for details of the remote file acquisition. Select shutdown mode Operation (Shutdown) executed when shutdown signal (RCCMD) is received can be selected. (Only the Windows version.) After all the applications under the start are canceled in a standard shutdown (default configuration) after shutdown signal (RCCMD) is received, it shifts to the shutdown of the system. It shifts to the state to be able to turn off power after the state is preserved in hibernation shutdown mode on the way of the application under the start after shutdown signal (RCCMD) is received. Please refer to [6.2 I cannot set "Hibernation shutdown"] for details of the stop mode. The end with hibernation might not correspond by the version of OS. 7

Explanation words [RCCMD (Remote Console Command)] RCCMD makes possible that shutdown of more than one server on the same network area. Two or more servers are connected with the output of UPS, and those servers can be shutdown by synchronizing with the output of UPS by executing it as service (demon) by installing RCCMD in each server when each server exists on the same network. [Service] Module to achieve system function automatically started or the function when it differs from usual application, and Windows NT is started. [Local Log] A local log is a log file of RCCMD ADVANCED preserved in the folder in which RCCMD ADVANCED is installed. The file name is "Rccmd_adv_log.txt". [System Log] The recorded event is included in the system log in the system of Windows. For instance, when systems of the driver and service, etc. cannot be read when starting, the event is recorded in the system log. [ECHO] ECHO is to forward the copy of the data received from the network to another server as it is. There are RCCMD ECHO and Message ECHO in RCCMD ADVANCED. The former is said forwarding Shutdown signal (RCCMD) to the server set to receive Shutdown signal (RCCMD). The latter is said the transmission of the content of the event generation to the server set to receive the content of the event generation. [Trap] It is a message voluntarily sent when the event is detected with the equipment in which the SNMP agent is installed. Information in the state of UPS is sent in RCCMD ADVANCED. [SNMP Agent] The machine is operated, and information on the machine is transmitted with Trap by the program with which it provides in a part of network equipment. 8

3.4. Rccmd The operation check is set. The cycle when the operation check is done is 10 seconds. "Rccmd" is clicked in "Settings (S)". RCCMD Setting Checking node Whether the upper node connected to the network is checked at 10 cycles of the second can be set. [ON] Port (5769) of the title node (Web/SNMP Card, UPSMAN, Rccmd_adv) after it is set to IP Address to be observed is checked. [OFF] Regular is not checked for Internet Protocol address to be observed. When turning off is selected, the following items become invalid. [Checking node], [Shutdown], [Shutdown Delay(s)], [Shutdown Start], [PopUp Message], [Time(s)]. It is set to turning off in default. Shutdown signal (RCCMD) is received, and shuts down even if the check is put in either. Please stop service "Rccmd_adv" to make it not shut down even if Shutdown signal 18

(RCCMD) is received. Please refer to [3.1 Start and Stop] for details of the stop of service. Target IP Address Please set IP address of the regular check and an upper node. It is set to in default. Only when the watch of the node is made "ON", it becomes effective. Shutdown [Yes] If the agent of the operation check object doesn't operate when the operation check is done to an upper node after it is set by a regular check, the shutdown processing is done. [no] Even if the agent of the operation check object doesn't operate when the operation check is done to an upper node after it is set by a regular check, it doesn't shutdown. Please set it to no when the shutdown signal of RCCMD is received, only the operation check of a upper node is done, and you do not shut down by the operation check. It is set to "No" in default. Only when the watch of the node is made "ON", it becomes effective. Shutdown Delay (S) Please set delay time until the shutdown is executed when judging that the response from an upper node disappeared when the shutdown by the watch of an upper node is effective. Please set a set value for 999 seconds from 60 seconds. It is set to "120 [sec]" in default. Only when the watch of the node is made "ON" And, Shutdown "yes", it becomes effective. 19

Shutdown Start Whether it shutdown when an upper node of the object that does the operation check when starting has stopped, too or it doesn't cost it can be set. It comes to judge an immovable work of a upper node by the operation check at time when a upper node returned the response of the operation check for the first time when setting it to "No". [yes] The shutdown timer is begun when the agent who checks it at the start and the service comeback movement (Service is started and the first time of the operaion check of the Web/SNMP card, UPSMAN, and RCCMD ADVANCED) of PC doesn't operate, and it shuts down after Shutdown Delay. [no] When the agent who checks it at the start and the service comeback movement (Service is started and the first time of the operation check of the Web/SNMP card, UPSMAN, and RCCMD ADVANCED) of PC don't operate, it doesn't shut down. It is set to "No" in default. Please start PC in a safe mode, and set "Shutdown Start" again by "No" again when it shuts down at once even if Shutdown Start is set to "Yes", and PC is started and it is not possible to start. Only when the watch of the node is made "ON "And, Shutdown" yes", it becomes effective. PopUp Message / Time (s) [yes] The event generated when the operation check is done to the watch object set by observing the node is displayed by pop up. [no] Pop up is not displayed to the event generated when the operation check is done to the watch object set by observing the node. Please refer to [3.5 Trap] for the setting of the display of the pop up message of Trap. It is set to "Yes" in default. Time(s)" sets the display time of pop up. When "PopUp Message" is set to 20

"Yes", it is effective. It is set to "60 [sec]" in default. Only when the watch of the node is made "ON "it becomes effective. 21

3.5. Trap The reception setting of SNMP TRAP is done. "Trap" is clicked in "Settings (S)". Trap Setting After receiving Trap by service "SNMP Trap Service" receives it, it is displayed early. 35 CD of OS used when installing it is needed to add the component. 34

3.12. Customized shutdown When shutting down, shutdown.bat" is executed and OS is ended normally. Changing this "shutdown.bat" can customize the shutdown operation. However, OS is Windows NT Not shutdown.bat" when 4.0 is alone but shutdown_nt.bat" is executed. Windows NT Please edit shutdown_nt.bat" when you customize the shutdown operation by 4.0. OS might not end normally when the description of shutdown.bat" is mistaken. shutdown.bat" is executed by the background (not interactive). The content of shutdown.bat" of default is as follows. 1. echo off 2. rem OS Shutdown Executing Command Call by rccmd_adv.exe 3. rem 4. rem /T:nn = shutdown delay down count [sec] 5. shutdown.exe /L /Y /C /T:10 Because a gray part (line where there is REM" in the head of line) is disregarded, it is not executed. The number in the left of each line is a number added for the explanation. It is not actually described. The command (batch processing) is executed before it shuts down. The command that wants to be executed is added to the second line of shutdown.bat" of default (insertion). Please describe it from it ahead because the command since the third line that does Shutdown. As for the command added, execution should end. Please set the UPS output stop delay time enough when it takes time for processing. Because OS is shutdown after the command added ends, the shutdown of OS is delayed only the execution time of the command. It exemplifies it to the following. 1. echo off 2. REM Record logged in user name to local file. 3. echo %USERNAME% >> loginuser.txt rem OS Shutdown Executing Command Call by rccmd_adv.exe 6. rem 7. rem /T:nn = shutdown delay down count [sec] 8. shutdown.exe /L /Y /C /T:10 35

5. About Firewall It should be a setting that replies permission and the Ping (ICMP) response of the port that RCCMD ADVANCED uses when the Firewall function is effectively set. RCCMD ADVANCED doesn't operate normally when filtered by Firewall. The main function to use the network communication with RCCMD ADVANCED is the following. RCCMD reception function (shutdown operation) RCCMD ECHO function (shutdown signal forwarding) TRAP ECHO function (message transport) Upper node monitoring function (When you observe RCCMD ADVANCED) 5.1. Using TCP/IP port on RCCMD ADVANCED The port that RCCMD ADVANCED uses is as shown in the next table. Please permit all ports in the next table when you use RCCMD ADVANCED. Port Module Description TCP Rccmd_Adv.exe The shutdown signal and the 6003 message are communicated. TCP When made to the upper node watch dumy_upsman.exe 5769 object, it uses it. TCP message.exe The pop up message is displayed UDP 162 snmptrap.exe or snmptrapd_d.exe 5.2. Setting of Windows XP standard Firewall. SNMP Trap is received. The following sections describe It introduces the method of the port of setting permission and the ICMP permission in Firewall where the Windows XP SP2 standard is installed. 1. "Control panel" is selected from "Start" menu. 2. The display form of the control panel is switched to "Classic display". 3. Next, "Windows firewall" is selected. 4. Because "Windows firewall" dialog is displayed, the thing that there is no check in "The exception is not permitted" is confirmed. (The check is erased clicking the check box when there is a check.) 37

5. Next, "Exception" tab is clicked, and "Addition of the port" button is clicked. 38

6. "Addition of the port" dialog is displayed. The name field arbitrarily inputs, inputs to the port number column as "6003", and clicks the "OK" button. 7. Three ports of the remainder are similarly added referring to "RCCMD ADVANCED use port". The permission setting of the port ends above. 39

8. Next, "Detailed setting" tab is clicked, and the Ping(ICMP) response permission setting is done. 9. "Setting" button in the "ICMP" column in "Detailed setting" tab is clicked. 40

10. The check is put in "The arrival of a message of the echo request is permitted" of "ICMP setting" dialog and the "OK" button is clicked. 41

6. Troubleshooting When all dialogs of the remainder are ended with the "OK" button, the setting is completed I deleted rccmd_adv.conf The configuration file means "Rccmd_Adv.conf" file. When the configuration file is not found, the following dialogs are displayed. Please click "Yes" when you make the configuration file by initialization. There are two methods of measures I cannot set "Hibernation shutdown" Please confirm it according to the following procedures when you cannot set the Hibernation shutdown mode. 42

1. It clicks in order of "start Run ". 2. "Open (O):" Column "control.exe" is input, and OK clicks on a button. "Power Option" is selected from among the control panel, and it double-clicks it because the control panel is displayed. Because "Power Option Property " is displayed, a "Hibernate" tab that exists in "Power Option Property " is clicked. 43

After the check is put in "Enable hibernation" in the tab of "Hibernate", "OK" button is clicked. 44

"Hibernation Shutdown" became effective according to the above-mentioned procedure. Please set it again clicking in order of "Start All Programs Rccmd_Adv Configuration Setting" If I selected "Hibernation shutdown", this program did not correctly terminate When the file of "Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and so on...)" is opened through the network when "Hibernation Shutdown" has been selected with Rccmd_adv, it is likely not to shift to "Hibernation Shutdown". Please put the check in a usual shutdown when you open the Microsoft Office file of the network file to shut down normally. 45
