Reasons For Going Viral
WHY ELEARNING?
What Students Want Social based learning tools to create and personalize networks of experts to inform their education process Un tethered learning transcend the classroom Digitally rich learning resources as a key to driving learning productivity
Investing in the Future The number of high school students who are taking online classes for school credit has almost doubled since 2008
Rapid Growth In 10 years, computer based, student centric learning will account for 50 percent in U.S. secondary schools. About 80 percent of courses taken in 2024 will have been taught online in a student centric way.
Growth of Online Learning
Financial Implications $1.3 Million lost from concurrent enrollment is the equivalent to 26 teaching positions
Distance Learning Technology Engage, Educate and Empower Every Student, Every Day

LEADERSHIP NEEDED!
Building leadership capacity in the digital age: School administrators should be empowered to be instructional leaders that shape outcomes so digital learning can most benefit our students Gaining knowledge about the rapidly growing world of digital learning Developing a common language for digital learning Building school leadership capacity in the digital it age Gaining updates on SUSD s elearning and SOL programs Cultivating shared leadership responsibilities for digital learning
Supporting Online Learners and Their Parents Parent/student informational meetings Student orientation sessions Personal contact via online teacher Online tutorials for learning management system (Brainhoney) Technical support from help desk
Generating a Pool of HQT Online teachers Holding informational sessions for interested staff. Create sample and training courses in the system for staff to access from anywhere, anytime to begin to better understand the system. Allow teachers to teach small sections (10 15 students) under the direction of lead, experienced online teachers. Utilize summer school as a training ground for new teachers interested in becoming more involved for possible full time positions
Enhancing Student Centered Learning Testimonials from online teachers I am able to make so many more individual connections and embrace so many more teaching moments in the online environment because each studentʹs experience is individualized to them it is truly student centered learning. elearning has provided the perfect situation for true individualized instruction. Throughout this year I have found as an elearning teacher many more opportunities to assist students on a one on one basis. I feel I have been able to truly reach each and every one of my students. The best part of elearning is getting to know my students in a different manner than in a traditional classroom. I am able to better identify where they are having trouble and intervene before it is too late. I can meet a student where they are and start from that point. It is rewarding to work with students individually in a meaningful, focused manner.
