2 our project presented some interesting and potentially diffi cult challenges that required an unusual measure of collaboration, cooperation and compromise. WMF met these challenges with grace, style, and above all a determination to deliver a quality product within our budgetary and time constraints. These spaces refl ect the need to manage the institution and provide social, fi tness, and athletics outlets for the college community. Often these spaces are a refl ection of the institution s role in the community at large. Today s recreation centers must accommodate a wide range of user types by offering a variety of recreation and fi tness venues. Whatever the interest cardio, strength-training, fl exibility, nutrition or physical therapy a recreation center can provide different venues for each. In addition to improving one s fi tness, recreation facilities often offer its users a social connection and in most facilities there are spaces to allow users to meet, sit and talk. Often this is accompanied with a drink from the juice bar, a power bar or a piece of fresh fruit. They can also include support facilities for administrative functions, locker rooms and some fi tness areas. Also important is wayfi nding that directs the user to the spaces that they wish to use during their visit. 10 Your diligence in partnering with us to control the project budget and project schedule has made The Highlands at Edinboro a ringing success. With over $1,000,000 contingency left over from Phase 1 we have signifi cant seed monies for Phase 2. There are private and semi-private bedrooms, baths, living quarters, dining facilities, fi tness centers, computer workstations and business copy centers. The availability of these amenities may well infl uence a student s decision on where they will attend, thus they serve as recruitment and retention tools for student admissions.
