1 JANUARY MEMBERSHIP MEETING HIGHLIGHTS The Electrical Contractors' Association of City of Chicago's (ECA's) January Membership Meeting was held on Wednesday, January 12, The ECA Officers for 2005 were introduced. The ECA Executive Committee members for 2005 were also acknowledged. In addition, the Committee Chairmen were appointed. The Association wishes to thank these volunteer members for their service. The ECA Officers, the 2005 Presidential Appointments and the Executive Committee are as follows: Officers I. Steven Diamond, President B. 2 APPRENTICE GRADUATION CEREMONY FEBRUARY 2005 The Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Trustees (EJATT) of the IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (INTECH) held its Apprenticeship Graduation Dinner Dance on Saturday, January 15, 2005 at the Grand Ballroom of Navy Pier. 420 Apprentices have graduated to journeylevel status. Michael Fitzgerald, Business Manager, Local Union #134, IBEW and James J. McGlynn, Sr., Chairman EJATT Management Trustees, McWilliams Electric Company, Inc. made brief presentations at the open of the ceremony. Special awards were also presented to many outstanding apprentices. Mr. Fitzgerald reminded the graduates that the training never ends. The field is constantly changing and evolving. The journeylevel workers will need to continue their training further at INTECH. He urged them to take full advantage of the continuing education programs that are available. He acknowledged the ongoing efforts of Local Union #134, IBEW with its industry partners, the Electrical Contractors' Association of City of Chicago (ECA) to maintain a prosperous industry. Mr. McGlynn echoed Mr. Fitzgerald's sentiments in regard to the limitless opportunities the graduates have in regard to their future training and careers. Through further education, each will be able to advance the industry in such areas, including: solar power, fuel cell technologies, among many other examples. Again, he expressed that extensive training is to their benefit, as well as the industry. He concluded by saying, "Provide for this industry what it has provided you." 4 MARCH MEMBERSHIP MEETING Mr. Art Ludwig, Director, Illinois Department of Labor is scheduled to be the guest speaker at the Electrical Contractors' Association of City of Chicago's (ECA's) March Membership Meeting. The luncheon is to be held on Wednesday, March 2nd at the Rosewood Restaurant/Banquets in Rosemont, Illinois. All ECA members are invited to attend. Director Ludwig was formerly the Business Manager of Local Union #701. He has a thorough knowledge of the industry and now brings that expertise as Director of the Illinois Department of Labor. We anticipate a lively, informative presentation. Registration information is to be forwarded to all ECA members. We do hope that you will be able to attend. EISP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE The Labor Management Cooperation Committee of Chicago (LMCC/Chicago) is pleased to announce that applications for the 2005 Electrical Industry Scholarships are now available. A total of two scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $5,000 per year for up to four years for the individual's undergraduate degree. To be eligible, applicants must be children of Local Union #134 members who are in good standing and working under the Principal Agreement, Communication Agreement or Residential Agreement. Children of deceased members may also be eligible to apply. Applicants must be high school graduates who are registered in a college or university field of study directly related to the electrical industry. An independent Selection Committee comprised of members of academia will make the award selections. If you are interested in participating in the Electrical Industry Scholarship Program, please send a letter requesting an EISP application form to: EISP c/o Michael Fitzgerald, Business Manager Local Union #134, IBEW 600 W. Washington Blvd. Chicago, IL Upon verification of your eligibility, the EISP Administrator will send an EISP application form to you. Applications along with all other required documents must be postmarked by March 31, 2005 to be considered for the 2005 Electrical Industry Scholarships. CISCO SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS Application for the Joseph Sullivan Memorial Scholarship are now available. To apply, an applicant must be: 1) A high school senior; 2) Provisionally accepted into the undergraduate program of a four-year accredited college or university; 3) A U.S. citizen; and 4) A child of a member of a building trades union or non-union bargaining unit employee of a union contractor affiliated with CISCO.
