1 Carl J. Schaefer Memorial Award Application Dr. Carl J. Schaefer gained national recognition as a Career and Technical Education (CTE) educator and author and was one of NOCTI's founding fathers. To honor Dr. Carl J. Schaefer, NOCTI and Mrs. JoAnn Schaefer created the Carl J. Schaefer Memorial Award as a tribute to Dr. Schaefer's memory and to recognize an outstanding CTE teacher and CTE teacher candidate each year. To qualify, a candidate must be one of the following: CTE Teacher: Individual who is already certified and working toward advancing their degree in CTE. CTE teachers would use the award money for tuition, room and board, books or other education-related expenses. CTE Teacher Candidate: Individual who has experience working in a technical area but does not necessarily have a degree. Generally, CTE teacher candidates are required to take courses to become certified and would use the award money for classes (tuition), room and board, books or other education-related expenses. Candidate Application Process Please complete the application form (pages 3-6) and submit along with the following items: Letter of recommendation from a teacher education faculty member; Verification of enrollment in a teacher education degree, licensure, or certification program at an accredited college or university; Unofficial college/university transcript provided by the applicant s college/university (candidates must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher in order to apply); Score report verifying completion of a relevant NOCTI teacher test. Completion of a NOCTI teacher test is desired, but not mandatory. Mail or your application materials to: NOCTI - Carl J. 2 Candidates will be notified of the results by mid-october Each award recipient will receive a plaque and $500 to be used toward tuition, room and board, books, or any other education-related expense. Each recipient will also be invited to attend NOCTI s Annual Consortium of States reception held in conjunction with ACTE's 2015 CareerTech VISION Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, on November 20, where they will be formally recognized.
