3 FACULTY UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School has one of the most highly regarded faculties of any business school in the world and the most productive researchers in the country. Rigorous, interactive, and dynamic, they present topics in a range of engaging methods, including case studies, simulation exercises, self-assessments and small group discussions. This programme s faculty offer a blend of academic excellence, real-world relevance and practical application that provides participants with unparalleled opportunities to expand their capabilities. Dr. Laurence Williams Programme Director Laurence has worked extensively with organisational clients in the private sector assisting them in developing and implementing business, sales, leadership and international commercial strategies. Regularly working within Europe, Middle East, Far East and the USA, he provides development and consultancy to major clients including Barclays, Irish Stock Exchange, Kellogg, Dubai (Dubal) Abu Dhabi National Investment Authority, Continental, Bayer, Merck, Wafi Dubai and ThyssenKrupp. He also works with senior commercial teams to assist them in their approaches to strategy development and implementation. He teaches international commercial strategy at UCD Smurfit School and is a Visiting Professor at Rotterdam School of Management and the Higher Colleges in the UAE. Prior to moving into management development in 1997, Laurence worked for fifteen years in major multinational companies in a number of international sales & marketing, business strategy and management roles with Dow Chemicals and ICI. He has direct commercial, strategic and business leadership experience in business-to-business, business-to-consumer and service sectors. Laurence s research areas include the impact of leadership styles and personality on business performance recently publishing Performance in Sales Does Personality Matter based on research in the Financial Services Sector. He holds a BSc (Hons) and PhD, as well as an MBA. He is also qualified with the British Psychological Society to Level A & B and is an accredited practitioner in MBTI (Steps I and II), FIRO-B, SDI and ESCI. Prof. Damien P. McLoughlin Damien is Professor of Marketing and Associate Dean Internationalisation and Distance Learning at UCD Smurfit School. He has served on the faculty of the S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, the Indian School of Business and in the executive education division at Harvard Business School. Damien has worked with a number of the world s leading firms including Alltech, Allianz, Google, Hewlett-Packard, Smurfit Kappa Group and Microsoft. Known as a Strategic Marketing specialist, Damien has published more than seventy papers in prestigious international journals and presented at numerous high-profile conferences. Dr. Peter McNamara Peter is Senior Lecturer at UCD Smurfit School. He has taught strategy courses in a number of institutions and countries, including Cass Business School, City University (London), Universite Pierre Mendes, France, University of Amsterdam, School of Real Estate, University of Friborg (Switzerland) and for UCD in Singapore, Hong Kong and Spain. His research lies at the intersection of strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship. Peter received his PhD, specialising in Strategic Management, from Cass Business School, City University London. He served a five year term as an Assistant Editor of Long Range Planning, one of the longest established peer review journals in the strategy domain. Stephen Boyle Dr. Paul Ryan Paul is Senior Lecturer in Finance at UCD Smurfit School. He is currently Director of the MSc in Finance Programme and was a member of the Governing Authority of UCD from Paul has worked extensively with industry and has consulted and delivered executive education programmes. His clients include Bord Bia, InterTrade Ireland, ICON, Irish Insurance Federation, Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland, Egyptian Banking Institute, Ethiopian Banking Institute, ACCA Ireland, the Arts Council and Enterprise Ireland. Prior to joining UCD in 1990 Paul trained and qualified as a chartered accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Stephen is an experienced trainer and consultant specialising in the field of negotiation, influence, persuasion and communication skills and has fifteen years experience in management consulting, corporate communications, strategic planning and change management. Stephen lectures on MBA and MSc and Exectuive Education programmes at UCD Smurfit School. Stephen has delivered management development programmes in South East Asia, USA, Europe and his clients range from sectors as diverse as biopharmaceuticals, construction, automotive and law enforcement. He is also a consultant on management development programmes for the United Nations International Trade Centre in Geneva.

4 PROGRAMME CONTENT Programme content is delivered over six two-day modules as follows: Module 1: Leading Strategic Growth This first module will explore your personal approach to strategic leadership through which your organisation can enhance performance and strengthen capabilities for sustainable, long-term growth. This module will teach you how to thrive in a rapidly changing, highly uncertain environment and will demonstrate how to apply tools and techniques to achieve and manage business growth. It will assist you in creating your own strategic roadmap for growth, innovation and profitability. Module 2: Marketing Strategy for Profitable Growth This module emphasises the need for managers in every function and at each level to understand the key marketing challenges facing their organisation and to explore options to effectively and profitably respond. Evidence from the marketplace is that firms who are driven by the market and who integrate marketing with their overall strategy, grow more and achieve higher profits. You will explore how to build and sustain competitive advantage and will consider how to navigate the key environmental changes that exist in the global marketplace. This module will also enhance your understanding of the essentials of marketing while acknowledging the strategic perspective. Module 3: The Fit-for-Purpose Organisation This module focuses on how organisational excellence can only be achieved when all of the business processes from across the value chain are completely integrated and mutually supportive. This shift in focus has enabled organisations to attain new levels of competitive advantage by viewing the entire organisation as a system of interacting processes and aligning them to the corporate strategy. It prepares you with a practical approach, enabling you to align your corporate strategy with a well-designed business architecture. It will support you in identifying the current status of your organisation with a transformation check point and will provide a roadmap for continued improvement and enhanced strategic flexibility. Module 4: Creating a High Performance Culture and Climate This module highlights the need to contextualise leadership in order to nurture a human organisation - establishing and sustaining a high performance culture, leading change and creating high engagement work practices to support long-term business goals. During the module, you will learn to engage and develop people in your teams, how to offer support in the areas of personal and team leadership and work on developing a coaching culture in the work place. The module will also will explore the effect of team dynamics on goal achievement and develop effective conflict resolution strategies. Participants will understand the importance of managing others to make an obvious impact at a personal, team and strategic levels. Module 5: Improving Business Profitability This module will assist you to understand the financial consequences of commercial and all other business related decisions. It will help you to interpret financial data in a strategic manner and to understand what lies behind the information. The module will cover the key aspects of strategic corporate finance that will allow for better decision-making based on business intelligence and analysis. You will be equipped to use this information to enhance business performance thus contributing even more effectively to business growth. Module 6: Personal Impact and Presence This module explores the importance of personal impact and the ability of leaders to communicate authentically and influence effectively as key skills in business alignment. It focuses on understanding how exceptional leaders influence their companies as well as the people around them. This is a dynamic and interactive module addressing advanced skills of business communication. Key elements of this module include authentic leadership experiences and passions that inform your leadership; self-awareness; values, ethics and standards; life balance; and leadership through purpose. Participants will not sit exams. All continuous assessment is completed by participants either individually or in groups and this is set out in the study guide for each module. Some modules require pre-coursework in addition to the postcoursework which is set for each of the taught modules.

The qualification is accredited (30 ECTS) and awarded by University College Dublin and is positioned at Level 9 (Masters Degree) on the National Framework of Qualifications. Pathway to the MSc. in Leadership and Management Practice (MSc. LMP) By successfully completing three of our part-time Executive Education Diploma Courses (within our MSc. LMP framework) over a five year timeframe, you will earn 90 credits (the national standard for a Masters Qualification) and will be conferred with an MSc. Our new MSc. LMP is unique as it has been designed to allow for the flexible and supported structure of delivery that allows you to choose and tailor your participation around your work / life demands.
