In particular the programme will equip the participants with conceptual and practical skills, and enable them to analyse and 1 of 10

2 solve challenging problems. The programme combines academic rigour and practical relevance. There is a careful balance of teaching and learning, individual and group work. Case study methodology and class-based discussions are used to strengthen the conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills of the participants in real situations. In addition, there are regular seminars by external expert speakers. The programme comprises 8 core modules, the Business Simulation, the Business Plan Competition and a choice of one of four pathways (Energy Business; Management Science and Operations; Strategy and Leadership; or Digital Business). These modules are taught over three academic terms. Over the summer, students undertake the Consulting Project module or a Work Placement, and write a Management Report or a report relating to an International Study Tour. Term one: The first three weeks of term are dedicated to induction. During the first week, students take the compulsory on-line Accounting Primer and Finance Primer tests. This follows completion of the on-line modules over the summer period and ensures that all students have the appropriate basic knowledge of Accounting and Finance before starting the Accounting and Corporate Reporting Analysis and Finance modules. Students are then taught the following core modules: Accounting and Corporate Reporting Analysis; Business Economics; Project Management; International Marketing, and Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management. Each of these core modules is assessed by a written examination paper and coursework. Students also attend the compulsory Career and Professional Development module. In the final week of the Autumn term, students are examined on the Autumn term modules. Term Two: All students are taught Innovation Management, Strategic Management and Finance. Students then choose one of four pathways: Energy Business; Strategy and Leadership; Management Science and Operations; or Digital Business. All modules are assessed by a written examination paper plus coursework. In the final week of the Spring term, students are examined on the Spring term modules Term Three Students undertake the Entrepreneurship module, the Business Plan Competition, and the Business Simulation Exercise. Each of these modules is assessed by coursework only. Students spend the summer period undertaking a Consulting Project or Work Placement in July, followed by writing a 5,000 word Management Report which is submitted at the end of August. Students may elect to attend and write a report on the International Study Tour as an alternative to writing the Management Report Learning Outcomes Educational aims/objectives of the programme The programme aims to provide a one-year programme in management that will equip students with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage and lead in private, voluntary and public domains, or to pursue further academic study (doctoral research).
