Class meetings will operate in a context of academic freedom, with mutual respect for all viewpoints, even those with which we disagree. This is an important part of the learning process. 5. The Instructor is the facilitator of your learning. Each student should take active responsibility and initiative for his or her own learning. 6. Central Carolina Community College expects every student to be committed to honesty and academic integrity. To ensure that all students understand CCCC s expectations, specific examples of cheating and plagiarism, two common forms of dishonesty, are outlined below. The lists are representative, but not all inclusive, of various types of academic dishonesty. Cheating includes: Copying tests, assignments, projects, presentations, and similar work. Submitting work that was previously submitted in another course or at another institution without instructor approval. Changing grades without the instructor s knowledge. Using unapproved sources (print, electronic, or web materials, etc.) during tests. Receiving and giving assistance with tests or other assignments without instructor approval. Any action which misrepresents or defrauds. Plagiarism includes: Representing others work (papers, tests, assignment, projects, etc.) in any form, print, electronic, web, etc., as your own. Not giving credit to work created or composed by another author (refer to The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, or other approved style guide). Submitting a purchased paper, project, or presentation as your own original work. Other Academic Honesty Violations include: Allowing others to copy your work. Providing your work to others for submission as their own. Lying to improve your grade or others grades. Changing a graded work and submitting it for re-grading.
3 Stealing or destroying others work. Collaborating on work without instructor approval. Impersonating another and taking their examination. If a student commits an act of academic dishonesty, the consequences may include one or more of the following at the discretion of CCCC. Receive a zero grade on that assignment. Receive an "F" in that course. Be suspended or expelled from the college. Inclement Weather Policy Students should not leave a voice mail about missing class due to bad weather. The CCCC phone system cannot handle the volume of calls. If bad weather forces the college to close, announcements will be made on all major TV and Radio stations that service our area. You may also go to for the latest announcement about CCCC closing. If no announcement exists, then the college is open on a regular schedule. Attendance: 1. A maximum of twelve (12) hours class time may be missed. Please save these hours for true emergencies. Make-up work will be required, but does not eliminate hours missed. The hours still count against your total. 2. Tardiness will not be tolerated. You are expected to be in class and ready to begin work at the assigned class start time. 3. Per CCCC policy, if you are late to class by ten (10) minutes or more, a full hour of absence will be charged against you. 4. All time missed (being absent, arriving late, taking excessive breaks, leaving early, etc.) will be accrued against the total. Exceeding twelve (12) hours could result in dismissal from the program. 5. Please schedule all appointments and personal needs outside of class time. 6. If you are pregnant, please notify your instructor or Medical Programs Coordinator as your due date could affect your ability to fulfill class requirements American with Disabilities Act (ADA): Students whose disabilities fall within the ADA should notify David Oates at prior to the beginning of class about any special requirements or equipment needed. Evaluation: Chapter Test 25% Drug Review Test 25% Midterm Exam 25% Final Exam 25% Students MUST have at least an 80% average to receive certificates!
4 STANDARDS OF CONDUCT 1. CONVERSATION: Do participate in class discussions, but avoid side conversations. 2. OTHER ACTIVITIES: Please focus on class activities instead of working on other activities while in class. 3. SLEEP: Please stay alert in class so that important content will not be missed. Avoid sleeping in class as sleeping can be counted as an absence. 4. ATTITUDE: A cooperative attitude in class is to be maintained. Do not use inappropriate or offensive commentary or body language to show a negative attitude regarding the course, the instructor, assignments or fellow students. 5. PROFANITY AND OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE: Always use language that is acceptable to everyone. Do not use inappropriate or offensive language in class and do not wear clothing that communicates profanity or offensive messages. 6. CELL PHONES AND BEEPERS: Cell phone or pagers are to be turned off when entering the classroom to eliminate disruption to others. 7. GUESTS: Friends and children are not permitted in class. 8.
