2 Welcome! Welcome to the Golden West College CalWORKs Program. We have dedicated staff and counselors who want to assist you in getting the guidance and resources needed to meet your educational/career goal. 3 Who Does the CalWORKs Program Serve? The Program provides specialized support services for economically disadvantaged parents who are receiving CalWORKs/ TANF/GAIN benefits.

One day permit for $3 can be purchased through permit dispenser machines located on each lot. Coin operated parking meters are also available at $0.25 per 15 minutes for a maximum stay of 2 hours.
5 Purpose This online orientation was created to guide students through basic information and guidelines regarding the CalWORKs program and general Golden West College information, rules and regulations.

7 PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
8 Who Qualifies? 1. Prospective CalWORKs students who are receiving cash aid benefits (welfare) for themselves and at least one eligible dependent child through social services. 2. Student must bring in current welfare verification as of the month he/she enters the Golden West College CalWORKs Program. If children are only receiving cash aid, the student will not qualify for program. NOTE: SSI, Disability, Workman s Comp, Food Stamps, and Medi-Cal are NOT considered Cash Aid.

10 Program Benefits Priority registration Transportation monthly vouchers School supplies every semester Processing monthly attendance reports (41-06) Processing Ancillary Requests (costs of books, required materials and fees) Intake counseling Individualized academic, career and personal counseling Provide information regarding special programs on campus such as: Financial Aid, EOP/S/C.A.R.E(for single parents), DSPS, etc School supplies Student success seminars Student Recognition Luncheon Career assessment Referrals to outside resources/programs when necessary Advocacy on students behalf with county caseworkers
11 Child Care All CalWORKs students/participants in need of child care must begin the application process for County child care assistance with their Case Manager and Continuing Employment and Eligibility Specialist as soon as possible.
12 Program Planning Sessions Each semester students must attend a program planning session with a CalWORKs counselor. The sessions are designed to assist students to stay on track to accomplish their educational/career goals. During the planning session the student and counselor will complete an Educational Employment Agreement (EEA) together outlining courses they will be taking for that current semester.
13 Missed Appointments Students must make every effort to give 24 hours notice when cancelling a scheduled appointment, otherwise the appointment will be counted as a missed appointment. Students arriving 10 minutes late to a 30 minutes scheduled appointment will need to reschedule their appointment. Students arriving 20 minutes late to a 1 hour scheduled appointment will need to reschedule their appointment.

15 What is an Educational Employment Agreement (EEA)? An EEA is a written agreement between the student, Golden West College, and county social services that outlines the requirements a student needs to meet his/her required weekly hours. An EEA reflects the following: Courses for enrollment for current semester Activities such as: study time work hours non-paid internship hours etc. work-study
16 Benefits of Completing an EEA with a CalWORKs Counselor Assists students to meet the educational criteria necessary to maintain their CalWORKs program eligibility. Students who attend program planning sessions prior to the beginning of the semester will receive CalWORKs priority registration. To maintain priority registration all CalWORKs students must have: 1. completed English and Math assessments 2. completed online orientation 3. have an SEP on file 4. be in good academic standing
17 Ancillary Funds Request Form Each semester students can request ancillary funds from social services for the following items: Books Health Fees College Services Card Parking Fees Material Fees School Supplies NOTE: This form must be submitted to a staff member in the office. DO NOT leave any paperwork on the front desk at any time. We cannot be responsible for lost paperwork.
18 Section One of the Ancillary Request Form Write your name, CalWIN case #, and date. Write your CalWORKs Case Manager s name, caseload number, and fax number. Sign and date under Release of Authorization. The paperwork cannot be processed without your signature in this section.
19 Section Two of the Ancillary Request Write the semester and year for which the ancillary request is for. Mandatory Fees: Write down parking permit, health instructional materials, college service, and other additional expenses such as calculators, scan trons, blue books, class supplies etc. *Note: Class syllabus indicating required items and receipt/cost validation print-out must be attached for other additional expenses.
20 Section Three of the Ancillary Request Form Write the CRN/class #, course name, books/materials, and cost amounts for each class you are requesting books for. Indicate if tax is included by checking boxes yes or no. Total the amounts as indicated on the bottom of the page.
21 Supporting Documentation Needed for Ancillary Request Forms Students must print out a cost description for each required textbook from the GWC/Follet Bookstore website ay?catalogid=10001&langid=-1&storeid=147404&demokey=d which can be accessed from the MyGWC website homepage. *Note: Click on back arrow (top left) to return to online orientation from Bookstore webpage Students who purchased their books in advance must bring copies of the original receipts and copies of the class syllabus page that states the required books. Students who are requesting money for additional supplies required by the instructor must bring in copies of the class syllabus page that states the required items/ materials.
22 Submitting the Ancillary Request Form to the CalWORKs Office Ancillary Request Forms are available in the CalWORKs office at the front counter. Ancillary paperwork must be submitted as soon as possible after registration and required textbooks are listed at the bookstore. Early submission helps ensure that payment is received prior to the beginning of courses. *Note: the process takes a few weeks to be completed by the social services caseworker before a student is paid/ reimbursed.
23 Attendance Progress Report Form Students who participate in the CalWORKs program are required by county social services to submit Monthly Attendance Progress Reports to maintain their program eligibility. Failure to submit Attendance Progress Reports can jeopardize child care and monthly cash aid payments and can ultimately result in sanctions by your caseworker. 27 Section B of the Attendance Progress Report Form Section B is completed by the student. Student completes the month and hours he/she was scheduled to attend. If student did not attend all hours, he/she will list the dates absent. Student reports the total number of hours he/she was absent. Campus closure due to a holiday must also be reported. 28 Supporting Documentation for Attendance Progress Reports Student must print and submit a current copy of his/her web schedule bill as of the date he/she is submitting the attendance report. CalWORKs staff will verify that the student s current web schedule bill matches his/her EEA. If the documents do not match, the student must meet with a CalWORKs program counselor to update and approve his/her EEA. The report is forwarded to appropriate counselor/staff for completion and then faxed or ed to the student s case worker. The original document is kept in the students file.
