2 International Marketing The challenge In the context of international marketing the greatest challenge for companies today is to find access to foreign markets. A good understanding about how a new market works is key in order to align products, services and brands with the expectations of an unknown target group. Products and services may find a great audience in one particular market but in another market the very same go-tomarket approach may fail completely. Why is this? As the needs and requirements of consumers may vary by market, the brand also has to be positioned differently by market. In one country the product is perceived as a lifestyle product, in another country the very same product needs to be positioned as a premium product in order to make it a success. The way a product is introduced to a market will also have a major impact on the pricing strategy for the particular product. It might work to apply the same go-to-market strategy for multiple markets. However, the company may lose some additional revenue stream in some of the markets. The reason for this is simple. The willingness to buy of the consumers would have been higher if the product had been positioned differently.
