1 BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF MONTEREY COUNTY POSITION DESCRIPTION Title: Work Schedule: Reports to: Lead Program Assistant, Technology - HYDC Part-time 30 hours per week, Monday Friday, generally scheduled between 1:00pm -7:00pm with occasional weekend responsibilities for training and special events. Expectation of full-time employment during School Intersession Programs (this is equivalent to up to 14 weeks full-time employment). Education Specialist MISSION: Our Mission is to inspire and empower the youth of Monterey County to realize their full potential to become responsible, healthy, productive and successful citizens. PRIMARY FUNCTION: Working under the direction of the Education Specialist with additional development and training support from the Unit Director and Education Coordinator, the Lead Program Assistant is responsible for outstanding daily supervision and quality assurance of BGCMC s award winning youth development services and Technology Program for diverse youth ages 6-18, at an assigned BGCMC Club to achieve the BGCMC Mission: to inspire and empower the youth of Monterey County to realize their full potential to become responsible, healthy, productive and successful citizens. The Lead Program Assistant includes oversight for the Technology Center, especially in regards to outstanding programming which: involve youth in experiential learning; enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines and apply learning to everyday situations; embrace technology to foster employability; empower youth to support and influence their Club and community; sustain meaningful relationships with others; develop a positive self-image; participate in the democratic process; and respect their own and others cultural identities. Additionally, s/he ensures quality implementation of National Boys & Girls Clubs of America strategies, curriculum and programs to support Members in attainment of the Youth Development Outcomes articulated by the Boys & Girls Club Movement. S/he is responsible for supervising Staff and Volunteers in delivering Technology programming at an assigned Club Unit (including direct supervision of the Technology Center and coordination with staff in the Science Center and Learning Center). Examples of programming components this Lead Program Assistant will facilitate and supervise Staff and Volunteers in providing include: technology testing, technology classes, technology labs, technology service projects, homework assistance, educational enrichment activities, experiential learning opportunities, National Boys & Girls Clubs of America strategies, curriculum and programs that include: Skill Tech I and II, Digital Arts Festival, Club Tech, Digital Arts Program. Additionally, the Lead Program Assistant supervises and maintains a safe, well-organized environment conducive to learning that is also fun, engaging and maximizes Member attendance, participation and learning specifically in the Technology Center and designated locations of related programming within the Club facilities and outreach locations. This Lead Program Assistant ensures that participation in Technology programming results in youth being inspired, informed and prepared to graduate high school and pursue post-secondary education and career development necessary for self-sufficiency by having increased opportunities for experiential learning, increased exposure to post-secondary education and technology careers, and improved school performance as well as achievement of the Youth Development Outcomes articulated by the Boys & Girls Club Movement. This position requires strong leadership and supervisory skills, both in working with Members, Staff, volunteers and community partners. S/he is a team player and supports the youth development work of other BGCMC departments as assigned. Additionally, the Lead Program Assistant must have access to reliable transportation and obtain a Class B Driver License (Commercial Endorsement) within 90 days of employment to fulfill outreach responsibilities (e.g., driving to local schools and other outreach sites to deliver programming and for planning sessions, transporting Members for fieldtrips, attending community events, etc.).
2 KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Prepare Youth for Success Learn names of Members and develop positive relationships with youth; Know and implement the youth development strategies to assist Members and other youth served in achieving Boys & Girls Clubs Youth Development Outcomes; Recruit Members and other youth served of all ages into Technology programs; Provide positive guidance, discipline, mentoring and role modeling to Members and other youth served; Adhere to Nutrition Policy guidelines when food preparation and service is involved; Maintain positive relationships with community partners in collaboration with the BGCMC; Supervise Members on field trips; Manage a consistent incentive process (ex. Club dollars) that rewards members for completion of technology work, school grade/attendance improvement, caring for Club members and facilities and active participation in High Yield Learning Activities. Maintain and designate a location in the Technology Center for member recognition on a monthly basis; Respect confidentiality of Members, employees, volunteers and information; Consistently demonstrate a high standard of professionalism in effective communication, personal motivation, and interpersonal skills with youth, peers, supervisors, parents, volunteers, community partners, donors and other stakeholders; Contribute to successful implementation of policies and procedures, professional standards and communication throughout the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County; Supervise assigned Program Assistants and Volunteers in providing excellent service to Members and assisting them in understanding and adhering to BGCMC policies and procedures. This includes creating and maintaining secure and active human resource files for each of your staff members. You should collect and update your team s Strategic Plans when due and have a continuous conversation about responsibilities contained in these plans with your team. You must also complete yearly staff evaluations for your team and submit these evaluations for your supervisor for review and revision. 2. Assist with Planning, Implementing & Evaluating Programming and Curriculum Implement and evaluate programming on a daily basis to achieve Program Services goals related to Technology programming (e.g., technology protocol testing, technology labs, technology classes, homework assistance and specialized technology initiatives), including fulfillment of Commitment to Quality (BGCA tool for evaluating program quality); Member attendance and participation in these activities must be tracked by Technology Center, staff and should include photos taken for each new HYLA activity. You are responsible for completing all Purchase Requests needed to deliver these activities. Members should arrive in the Technology Center and participate in HYLA s for most of their time at the Club. Implement monthly special technology and career development activities outside of homework assistance to reward and recognize technology involvement (e.g., a technology Passport for completing technology classes, special Technology speakers etc.); Facilitate and support Program Assistants and Volunteers to implement Boys & Girls Clubs of America curriculum and programs (e.g. Digital Arts Festival, Skill Tech I and II, Club Tech); Contribute to quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals by recommending modifications that respond to Member needs and interests. Assist in planning and implementing school break morning programs; and Assist in planning and facilitating events and activities to enhance Members knowledge, understanding and skills related to Technology (e.g., guest speakers, field trips, career fairs, special events, etc.). 3. Ensure Safety, Cleanliness and Order of Program Spaces Maintain safety, order and cleanliness specifically in the Technology Center, first floor bathrooms and all other locations of assigned programming as well as generally throughout the Club Unit by using good judgment and enforcing rules fairly, firmly, consistently and kindly; Ensure that a clear and effective positive discipline policy is communicated and understood by members while in the Technology Center and staff are appropriately trained on how to execute this policy. Members should be able to communicate specific consequences for their actions and staff should be consistent in handling common discipline issues. This policy should be coordinated with the policy used in other areas of the Club. Ensure Program Assistants maintain an environment that ensures the health and safety of Members by monitoring specifically the Technology Center and all other locations of assigned programming as well as generally throughout the Club Unit by maintaining a high degree of awareness to ensure a safe environment; Ensure consistent homework help processes are in place so that all members know what to do when they need help with their studies. Ensure Member transitions are efficient for staff and members and all members understand the appropriate processes and rules for snack, Club meeting and floor transitions. Supervise proper care of Boys & Girls Club property and equipment and ensure good working condition (tables, computers, books, CD s, digital cameras, laptops, microscopes,, etc.) by identifying and addressing anything out of order; and
3 Assess program needs, maintain inventory and recommend requisitions for equipment, materials and supplies as needed. There should be a current inventory of all Technology Center supplies and resources available for viewing. 4. Manage Yourself and Program Assistant Staff & Volunteers Actively manage your job responsibilities by reviewing the BGCMC special events calendar, scheduling meetings consistently with your supervisor to distribute your workload, reviewing your roles and responsibilities for special events, submitting a self evaluation for your annual review and keeping a current and efficient task organization and distribution system and transparent calendar on Outlook. Recruit, train, schedule and manage performance of assigned Program Assistants and Volunteers, providing ongoing feedback and identifying and supporting professional development opportunities; Maintain close, daily contact with Club Members and Staff (including Volunteers), to receive and provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions, advise and manage performance; Set staff and program schedules of assigned areas, including arranging guest speakers and others making presentations to Members and/or staff; Ensure that weekly wall calendars for the Technology Center are current and can be understood by members and coordinate with Science Center and Learning Center staff to do the same. Meet with Education Staff on a weekly basis; Ensure that established Boys & Girls Club youth development strategies are implemented and rules and policies are enforced; and Timesheets are submitted for all Technology Center staff on a biweekly basis and s are responded to by Technology Center staff within 24 hours. 5. Collaborate With Internal and External Partners Attend and facilitate meetings within BGCMC as well as staff special events; Serve as a full team player and contribute to the success of other BGCMC Departments; Participate in weekly Unit meetings to update and coordinate with fellow staff about all Technology Center activities and to actively seek out information about programming in other areas of the Club. 6. Assist with Stewardship of Club Resources. Recommend requisitions to supervisor for approval and manage resources wisely; and Complete and submit written reports as requested, manage files and handle clerical functions to support Technology Center programming. Submit program highlights for your area on a quarterly basis when requested by your supervisor. EXAMPLE DAILY DUTIES: Provide prompt, professional, and courteous service for youth and other stakeholders; Implement high-quality, fun Technology programming for Members and families at assigned Club Unit and outreach locations; Supervise assigned Technology Program Assistants, volunteers, service learners and areas; Assist in developing fun, high-quality Technology programming responsive to youth interests and needs; Adhere to BGCMC policies, procedures and safety and sanitary standards; Provide timely reports related to Members (e.g., tracking participation, achievement, etc.), Staffing (e.g., performance reviews, schedules, etc.), Programming (e.g., recommending adjustments to schedule and activities, requesting supplies, etc.) & Facility (e.g., safety matters, maintenance requests, etc.); Serve as a positive force in the organization and achieve a high standard of professionalism and customer service through effective communication, personal motivation, and interpersonal skills with Members, peers, superiors, parents and the general public; Perform other duties as assigned. ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Essential Working Relationships: Internal - Maintain close, daily contact with Club Members, Staff (professional and volunteer), to receive and provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions, instruct and advise. External - Maintain contact with external stakeholders, including: Members Parents/Families, schools and institutions of higher education, other youth serving organizations, businesses and community groups to support fulfillment of BGCMC Mission. Environmental and Working Conditions: This position requires the ability to perform work in an office setting as well as in a highly interactive and emotionally and physically stimulating environment. Occasional travel between Club sites is required.

GRACIOUSNESS: Respect and discipline Supervisory Responsibilities Provide direct and indirect supervision to part time youth development professionals. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Qualifications: Successfully complete pre-employment background check and drug testing; A positive attitude and mature personality conducive to working effectively as a team player with diverse Members, Staff, Volunteers, Parents/Guardians and other stakeholders; Associate's degree or equivalent post-secondary education/certification in Technology or other related field. (Additional years of experience may substitute for an equal number of years of education); A minimum of one year of youth development work experience; A minimum of one year experience supervising and managing performance of Staff and/or Volunteers; Responsible, dependable and can take initiative; Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; and Exceptional ability and aptitude to make correct decisions within established policies and commitment to adhere to BGCMC Minimum Standards and Expectations of All BGCMC Staff (see attachment at end of this description). Specialized Skills Required: Proven ability to cultivate positive relationships with youth between the ages 6-18 and to offer high-quality, engaging and fun youth development programming addressing youth interests and needs; Ability to perform responsibilities and adapt to changes in a highly interactive, dynamic environment; Technology related content knowledge and ability to implement multicultural educational strategies needed to fulfill the responsibilities of this position; Thorough knowledge of a broad range of youth development and education-related curriculum and ability to implement multicultural educational strategies needed to fulfill the responsibilities of this position; Ability to supervise youth, staff and volunteers, and providing positive direction, discipline and performance management; Attainment of Valid Class B Driver s License within 90 days of employment; Competence in utilizing technology to maximize workplace efficiency and youth development programming; and Must have access to own transportation. Highly Desirable Qualifications: Oral and written fluency in Spanish and English; Experience in planning, implementing and assessing youth development programming; Proven knowledge, understanding of youth development &/or educational work with youth, families and organizations of Monterey County communities, especially those located in the Salinas Valley and on the Monterey Peninsula; Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, Outlook and Internet Explorer, Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator; First Aid & CPR Certification; and Bachelor's degree in Education/Technology or other related field. COMPENSATION: Range starting at $11.00 per hour with earning determination based on qualifications.
