Reporting to: Programme Manager Duration of contract: Project is funded until August 2017 Working Hours: Therapy sessions last 1 hour and are held between Monday - Friday between 9am and 6pm. 3 Background The Young Gallery: Art Therapy Programme offers a 3 tier approach to engagement that will engage 988 children aged 0-12 years old across Glasgow s East End over the next 3 years. Special attention should be drawn to our specialist group and 1:1 therapy programmes for children under 12 who are experiencing issues specifically related to drug and alcohol abuse either in their personal or community life. Through our work it is hoped that children will have increased confidence, realisation of their own potential and increased creativity, which in turn makes them more resilient and able to develop better coping strategies. The key elements are: 1. The Young Gallery Main Programme we will engage 840 children over 3 years, through 10 creative projects in schools and nurseries each year. Each project will focus on a specific theme, e.g. tolerance and respect and have a celebration exhibition in The Young Gallery space. The creative skills built up within these blocks will be predominantly visual arts and all workshops developed have a clear link to the curriculum for excellence. The approach developed is very much in line with not only delivering creative programmes within schools, but also to support teachers in developing creative skills. A Lead Artist in Residence will deliver the programme supported by Creative Assistants. 2. The Young Gallery Specialist Programme - a crossover point and referral route between the main programme and Art Therapy, for targeted groups and/or individuals. These groups/individuals will be identified through the main programme, and other services if appropriate, and will be specifically to address and engage with children who live with addiction. A crucial part of this element to the programme is to make sure that this is a positive experience and not a therapy group. The activities will be specially developed with Impact Arts staff and other key therapeutic providers such as Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy to ensure that the appropriate level is delivered. Over 3 years, we will deliver 12 timetabled Specialist Programmes, engaging a further 144 children. 3. The Young Gallery Art Therapy Programme access of up to Art Therapy sessions over a month period for a minimum of 10 children per year who are most in need of intensive support. Sessions will be delivered by Art Therapists. The children will be identified through a referral process that will include the appropriate partners. Art Therapists, Impact Arts and referral partners will work closely with the parents/caregivers to ensure there is clarity on the process that the child is going through. An exit strategy will also be put in place at the start of the therapy. This strategy will lay out the process for children to move on from therapy once they are ready. We will work with health and social work partners to enable that child to access further support services if necessary.

4 Purpose As the Art Therapy Supervisor it will be your role to provide regular 1:1 and group supervision with the Art Therapy team and work in partnership with Impact Arts Programme Manager to ensure Art Therapists are supported to provide clients with quality therapeutic interventions. Main Responsibilities: o o o To support the art therapist to develop their clinical practice, and to ensure the welfare of the children through the supervision process. To ensure that the needs of the children are being addressed, and monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions To contribute to the overall monitoring, reporting and auditing of the Young Gallery Art Therapy Project. To supervise the Art Therapists in the following: Initiate and implement 1:1 art therapy programmes for children referred to the Young Gallery Art Therapy programme. Assess, develop and implement individual therapy / psychotherapy sessions in relevant art forms for children on a 1:1 basis. Make psychological formulations, clinical judgements including risk assessments and provide recommendations for participant care. Identify with Impact Arts the potential developments for each participant through the process of art therapy. Joint working with the team of art therapists and other professionals where appropriate. Effective communication with participants and other professionals, co-workers and project management. Contribute to the ongoing development of a medical art therapy model for future use over the course of the project. Provide reports relevant to the service as required. Other responsibilities: To share information with Impact Arts about the participants and any disclosed information that may put the safety of the child or anyone else involved in the case at risk.

5 To make the process of art therapy as transparent as possible to Impact Arts whilst remaining within the confidentiality of the art therapy framework. To ensure risk assessment and health and safety policies are followed To participate in training, meetings and events as required To support and promote Impact Arts Values To participate in training, meetings and events as required. To support and promote Impact Arts Values. To carry out any other duties appropriate to the post in line with Impact Arts needs. Qualifications and Experience Degree Level in Visual / Applied Art Professional qualification in Art Therapy Experience in supervision of 1:1 Art Therapy and / or group therapy Qualification/experience in Community Arts / Community Learning and Development (desirable) Technical Skills and Knowledge Excellent technical skills in your art form Competent IT skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook Good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines Ability to manage budgets (materials) Personal Skills and Qualities Excellent interpersonal skills Approachable and empathetic manner Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team Alignment with the values and ethics of Impact Arts, and clear understanding of the wider community arts concept Energy and commitment

6 Imaginative Excellent communication skills Good self management, organisational and planning skills Good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines Strong team player, allowing everyone to play to strengths Ability to generate new ideas to contribute to programme development Registrations: Successful candidates will be required to join the PVG scheme or to apply for a PVG update. Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) essential. BAAT Approved Supervisor Membership of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) and knowledge of BAAT Code of Ethics is desirable.
