1 Checklist for Jamaican citizens applying for Schengen visa - Required documents Name: Date of birth: Citizenship: When meeting in person at the visa office at the time of your appointment, apart from the original documents, you must deliver copies of the original documents you want in return after the application has been processed. Original documents such as birth or marriage certificates have to be legalised by the Jamaican Ministry of Foreign Affairs on beforehand. In some cases a translation may be required, please inquire with the visa office in advance. Documents required from all applicants Passport must have been issued in the past ten years and contain at least two unused pages and valid for at least three months after the intended date of departure from the Schengen area. Alternatively, the letter can be signed in front of a Notarius Publicus. 2 DOCUMENTATION ALLOWING FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF THE APPLICANT S INTENTION TO LEAVE THE TERRITORY OF THE MEMBER STATES Documentation of ability to return a foreign national who holds a residence permit in another country than his/here home country must be able to return to his/her country of residence. The right to return must be valid for at least three months after the period for which the foreign national has applied for a visitor s visa. reservation of or return or round ticket; DO NOT PAY for any ticket before a visa has been granted proof of financial means in the country of residence; Financial means may be proved by recent bank statements showing movement of means over a certain period (minimum the last three months). The bank statements need to be stamped and signed by the bank. proof of employment: Employment may be proved by a work contract; certificate of employment; or information on professional status; Permit to leave work for the indicated period, if applies. The letter from the employer should state the applicants intention to return. proof of real estate property or housing; Real estate property may be proved by title-deed, while housing can be proved by a rent contract. proof of integration into the country of residence: family ties; professional status. Family ties may be proved by a marriage certificate, birth certificate or any document regarding parents and/or children and their place of residence. For students, authorisation on behalf of the educational institution granting a permit to travel for the indicated period. PROOF OF MEANS OF OWN SUBSISTENCE The applicant shall present proof that he possesses sufficient means of subsistence both for the duration of the intended stay and for the return to his country of origin or residence, or for the transit to a third country into which he is certain to be admitted, or that he is in a position to acquire such means lawfully. The proof may be constituted by any of the following: recent bank account statements showing movements over a certain period (at least the last 3 months), stamped and signed by the bank credit card(s) and a credit card account statement TRAVEL MEDICAL INSURANCE The coverage should be of minimum euros and should be valid for all Schengen countries. When applying for a uniform visa for one or two entries, the applicant shall present such proof to cover the intended visit(s) upon submission of the application. In case a multiple entry visa is applied for, the applicant shall present proof of travel medical insurance covering the first intended stay. In such cases the applicant must sign the statement in the relevant field of the application form indicating that he is aware that he must hold adequate travel medical insurance for future visits as well. The insurance should be taken out in the applicant's country of residence, but if that is not possible, insurance can be taken out elsewhere. Third parties, e.g. an inviting person, may take out insurance on behalf of the applicant. 2

3 List of supporting documents depending on the purpose 1. For business trips: An original invitation from the business associate in Norway to take part in an industry or workrelated meeting/conference/event. The invitation should indicate the aim and duration of the stay, including a statement of sponsorship if it is the inviting entity that covers expenses related to transport and accommodation; entry tickets for fairs and congresses, if appropriate; Confirmation of temporary place of residence in Norway, for example a hotel reservation. documents proving the applicant s employment status in the company, for example work contract or similar. sponsorship of subsistence funds during the trip, if the case A letter from the employer approving the visit, if applicable For specific categories: 2. Seafarers: Seaman's book Covering letter from recruiting company stating the name and the rank of the seafarer Vessel's name, vessel's arrival date in port and the date of the seafarer's joining of the vessel For journeys undertaken for the purposes of study or other types of training for a period of less than three months: a certificate of enrolment at an educational establishment for the purposes of attending vocational or theoretical courses, as well as trainee positions within the framework of basic and further training; student cards or certificates of the courses to be attended; A student card can only be accepted as supporting document if it is issued by the host university, academy, institute, college or school where the studies or educational training is going to take place. Proof of payment for courses and activities, if applies Proof of finance of the studies and his/her temporary place of residence. 3. For journeys undertaken for the purposes of tourism or for private reasons: An invitation letter from the inviting person explaining the purpose of the visit, containing detailed, relevant information about the person extending the invitation, the person who is invited and their family relationship or other relationship; proof of ties with the host/inviting person; Proof of relations with family members in Norway, with corresponding information about names, place of residence and type of kin relation, if applies. documents relating to accommodation: an invitation from the host if staying with one, with a guarantee form stamped by the police in Norway; Confirmation of hotel reservation or other form of accommodation if not staying with the host; a document from the establishment providing accommodation or any other appropriate document indicating the accommodation envisaged, for example a document proving the existence of a rental agreement or booking; documents relating to the itinerary: 3

4 confirmation of the booking of an organised trip or any other appropriate document indicating the envisaged travel plans; Documents regarding the itinerary should be completed with documents regarding the means of transport: reservation of return or round ticket (if travelling by a public mean of transport); or, drivers licence, car insurance (if travelling by private car); in the case of transit: visa or other entry permit for the third country of destination; tickets for onward journey; 4. For journeys undertaken for political, scientific, cultural, sports or religious events or other reasons: Documents showing that the host covers all expenses related to the journey, alternatively, proof of own subsistence for the expenses not covered by the host; "active" participants (e.g. lecturers, athletes, performers) invitation, entry tickets, enrolments or programmes stating (wherever possible) the name of the host organisation and the length of stay or any other appropriate document indicating the purpose of the journey; The supporting document shall mention the duration of the event, as well as where it will be held. The invitation should preferably be addressed directly to the applicant but general invitations may be accepted. That the person in question is an active athlete at the appropriate level at a sporting event Temporary place of residence in Norway, for example a hotel Accreditation for the coverage of costs for the whole journey. In the case of an invitation by a non-profit organisation to an event: Representatives of non-profit organisations should present an official document stating that the organisation is registered as such and that the applicant represents it. Diplomats and employees of intergovernmental organisations etc. Diplomats, employees of intergovernmental organisations or convention bodies and contractors for intergovernmental organisations or convention bodies shall document the purpose of their visit to Norway and that they represent their organisation. The same applies to foreign national who come to Norway on public assignments (meetings, seminars, negotiations or exchange programmes) a letter issued by an authority of the third country concerned confirming that the applicant is a member of the official delegation travelling to a Member State to participate in the abovementioned events, accompanied by a copy of the official invitation; For holders of diplomatic, service/official or special passports: such passports are specifically issued to be used for journeys with an official duty purpose. Therefore, it should be the issuing authority (or the competent administration) which applies for the visa. The 4

5 Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country that issued the passport must notify the host country when it receives a visa application. Additionally a note verbale from the Ministry of foreign affairs of the issuing authorities must be presented (or, if the application is submitted in a country other than the applicant's country of origin, from the third country's diplomatic mission). This includes events held by an EU institution. 6. Family members of EEA or EFTA nationals Family members of EEA or EFTA nationals are exempt from the requirement to pay the application fee and to document travel medical insurance. For EEA and EFTA nationals and their family members, it is a requisite that the relationship is established before entry to Norway. The applicant must document the following: Family relationship with/bonds of attachment to the EEA/EFTA national A valid passport That the EEA national is exercising his/her right to free movement pursuant to the EEA Agreement or the EFTA Convention, for example a copy of the EEA national s registration certificate, valid ID or travel document.
