1 International Studies The Office of International Studies Programs aids all international students in areas such as: academic advisement, orientation to the community, obtaining housing, and transferring to a four-year university. Lake Land College provides in intensive English Language program for students needing additional help. The Office of International Studies Programs also provides assistance with several abroad opportunities. Lake Land College offers study abroad programs in Austria, England, and Costa Rica. 2 Registration Checklist New International Students Apply to Lake Land College. If applying to a Special Admissions Program (Nursing, Dental Hygiene, etc.), alert the International Studies Department so that they can advise you on this separate application process. Admission to the college does not ensure entrance into any of these special admission programs. Submit an official copy of your high school transcript along with official copies of any college or university transcripts. Submit a completed financial affidavit and supporting financial documents. Every student is required to prove that they can pay for at least one year of education at Lake Land College. The financial affidavit can be downloaded at Submit your TOEFL scores if you do not plan on entering the Intensive English Language Program (IELP). Students must score a 61 or better on the internet based TOEFL to directly enter mainstream courses. Submit a copy of your passport, photo page only. If accepted, use the information from your I-20 document to pay your U.S. SEVIS fee. Go to for information on paying the SEVIS fee. You may pay this fee online or print the form and pay through the mail. You must have the SEVIS fee receipt before you go for your embassy interview. Go to the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate to apply for an F-1 student visa. Contact the International Studies Department immediately following your interview. If you receive a visa, we will need to arrange your housing. Coordinate your travel arrangements with the International Studies Department. You must arrive by the date specified on your I-20. Participate in the international student orientation program. If we do not have your ACT scores on file, you will be required to take the LLC assessment test before registering for classes. Page 2

3 Pay for your courses by the due date indicated on your bill. Even if you do not attend classes, you must drop them or be responsible for your bill. Pay in person at the accounting office, by phone at (217) or online at Attend New Student Celebration during the first week of the fall semester where you will be officially welcomed to the college, meet your advisor and celebrate the start of the new academic year. They can explore the site for more information. How do I apply to the International Studies Program? The first step is to fill out the International Student Intent to Enroll Form Click on the green Start button from LLC s homepage Click on International Student Click on Fill out the form completely and click on the Submit button Click on to obtain a checklist that will guide students through the enrollment process Page 3

4 Will I be able to enroll in regular academic classes right away? This will be determined based upon the TOEFL score that the individual receives There are three different TOEFL tests available Paper Based Test o Score of 500 and above : student may enroll in regular academic o Score of 499 and below : student must enroll in Intensive Language Computer Based Test o Score of 173 and above : student may enroll in regular academic o Score of 172 and below : student must enroll in Intensive Language Internet Based Test o Score of 61 and above : student may enroll in regular academic o Score of 60 and below : student must enroll in Intensive Language What is the Intensive English Language Program (IELP)? Assist international students who are non-native English speakers Assist students at different levels of English performance in the following areas: 1. Writing 2. Speaking 3. Reading Students who test in at the beginning and intermediate level will be enrolled full time to the program Students who test in at the advanced level may be co-enrolled in a limited amount of regular academic courses Upon completed of IELP, students will be eligible for full-time regular college course work What is the International Student Association? A club for our international students Consolidates and promotes understanding among international students Promotes strong ties with the American community Promotes an understanding with other students and the LLC community Acts as a liaison between the international student and other outside international student organizations Page 4

5 As an international student, do I have to purchase health insurance as part of my enrollment? If proof of insurance is provided upon arrival, students will not have to purchase LLC s health insurance Where will I live while attending LLC?
