1 DOUG BODEY, Director of High School Programs ~ The following are students who placed at Regional Competition on February 14 and will be progressing to the next level at state. SkillsUSA Competition will be held on April at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Alexandra Myers, Cosmetology senior from Bath, received Silver in Cosmetology. Gabriel Cozadd, Automated Manufacturing Technology senior from Bluffton, received Gold in CNC Milling.

2 Scott Thomas, Automated Manufacturing Technology senior from Elida, received Gold in CNC Turning. Tanner Brenek, Automated Manufacturing Technology senior from Bath, received Bronze in Precision Machining.

3 Zachary Miller, a Wapakoneta Welding and Fabrication senior, is cutting materials. Travis Hadding, a Carpentry senior from Perry, is finishing cabinets.

4 Julian Wright, a Lima Central Catholic Carpentry senior, is working on a CAD drawing.

5 RICK TURNER, Director of Adult Education Programs ~ Both in the Commons and in the Adult Resource Center, managers were busy talking with community members during the annual ApolloPalooza event. Adult staff members were pleased with the content of the questions participants were asking throughout the evening.

6 Here the new students are pictured at the start of week two. The 27 LPN students start their first day of lab where they learned how to don isolation gear, gowns, masks and gloves. They are off to a great start! Apollo Adult Director, Rick Turner, and LPN Manager, Lisa Brackney, talk to incoming Ottawa LPN students on their first full day in class.

7 Allied Health Students from the Medical Assisting and Medical Insurance Specialist programs examine various body tissues, cells, and disease processes on a microscopic level during an Anatomy and Physiology lab.

9 It was a full house in Early Childhood Development class. The topic of discussion that evening was Taking the Sting out of Behavior. The students also learned about communicable diseases.

16 PAM DOWNING, High School Instructional Supervisor ~ Academic News: Students and teachers are working to get back on track following the unusual number of cancellations and school delays. Below are some of the activities our students are working on in their academic classes. Mrs. Smith, English/Language Arts Courtney Lambert (Perry) and Aubrey Williams (Elida), both Administrative and Medical Office Technology, show off senior vocabulary essays. Students were required to personify a vocabulary word and then tell its story using the definition as part of the background for the word.

17 Mrs. Harris, English Language Arts Donavan Wooddell, an Automated Manufacturing Technology junior from Perry, is practicing his speech for Skills competition.

18 Satellite News: Our students involved in the satellite programs are getting back to business, as well. Keith Rambin, Wapakoneta Students are currently using solid works to model simple 3d parts. Cal Miller was on the left and Darin Dean was on the right.

19 Dennis Pohlman, Elida, Agriculture Tracey Long is tightening the screw on her sawhorse project. Jarrett Cummins is using a disc sander to square the end of his sawhorse frame (Woodworking Unit Ag Science I).

20 Judy Kent, Family and Consumer Science, Shawnee Heidi Dang and Hannah Taylor are learning to crochet. They are working on a yarn storming project Angelo Fox is cooking in Discovering Food s lab.

21 Media Center News: This is Sean Reynolds, a Multimedia Technology senior from Wapakoneta. He is another monthly AR drawing winner. Here he is picking out his prize.

22 Professional Development News: The Professional Reading Book Group has chosen Outliers for our next selection. Twelve staff members have signed up to participate.

23 ROY GILLESPIE, Facility Manager ~ We are working with Garmann/Miller and Touchstone on the logistics of Phase 1 for the building project. There are many items that need to be worked out in a short period of time. The following are just a few of the items we are currently organizing: a) Temporarily moving the chiller by April 1 st b) Relocating the main electrical transformers in late March c) Utility locations, in-ground depths, installation scheduling to avoid conflicts, easements, clearances, shutdowns/outages d) Moving programs and remodeling spaces to house programs e) Storage space f) Demolitions g) Salvage rights h) Furnishings/Floor Plans i) Security j) Staging/Traffic k) Finishes l) Engineering/Testing/Abatement/Surveys m) Bidding n) Ordering materials We received the design development drawings and had a review meeting of the documents with Garmann/Miller on the 18 th. I have spent quite a bit of time studying the drawings and spec books. I had an electrical systems review meeting with Garmann/Miller engineers on February 20 th. Items of discussion included back-up generators, transformer/chiller moves, sizes of electrical services, automatic transfer switches, sub-meters, ADA doors, electrical drops for equipment, routing of underground power, emergency shut-off in shops, and phone systems, among other topics. As you all are aware, this has been a difficult winter. The cold temperatures and snow have put a strain on our systems, equipment, and staff. We have spent many hours plowing and spreading salt which takes us away from our normal duties. There has also been a lot of cost in purchasing salt, repairing trucks/plows/equipment, and energy consumption to keep the buildings warm.

24 The maintenance staff has been working diligently on cleaning out the Construction Equipment Technology 2 building and the center lab of the Auto building to make room for the Floral, Graphics, Early Childhood Education, and Sports Fitness and Exercise Science moves that will take place towards the end of the school year. We have developed drawings and are working with the Building Maintenance program and our electrical contractor to put together the transition space for this move.
