1 Using 2Can There are three basic steps involved in migrating all of your data from your BlackBerry to your Android phone: 1. Backup your BlackBerry 2. Transfer the backup file to your new Android phone 3. Import the backup file using 2Can It s easier than you think! We ve broken down each step below and show lots of screen shots. 2 Step 1: Backup your BlackBerry In step one, you will use BlackBery Desktop Software to back up your BlackBerry smart phone to a file on your PC s desktop. It s actually very easy. If you need to install BlackBerry Desktop Software, it s available for free download at: There are also tutorials at the address above. We ll show the Windows version. (The steps are similar for Macs.) In Windows, click Start, All Programs, BlackBerry, BlackBerry Desktop Software:

3 You should see the BlackBerry Desktop Software window now:

4 Now plug in your BlackBerry to the USB cable that s also connected to your PC. You may hear an alert sound and you may see Installing Drivers on the bottom of the screen. If that happens, just let it complete installation. If you see a message on your BlackBerry that says Do you want to turn on mass storage mode, just press No. If you get the window below on your PC, press Continue without scanning. If you see this window on your PC, just close it by clicking the red X :

5 After about 30 seconds, the Back up now button should be available to press:

6 Click Back up now and you ll get the window below. Select Quick (exclude ). Then click Browse: Click Yes on this window:

7 Select Desktop as shown below, then click OK.

8 Now click Back up :

9 You ll see a progress bar indicating the backup is taking place: When it s done, the window below will pop up. Click Close. Now unplug your BlackBerry from the PC, and close the BlackBerry Desktop Software.

10 Step 2: Transfer the backup file to your Android In this step, you ll simply copy the backup file you just created on your PC to your Android phone. Plug your Android phone into your PC using the USB cable. You may get a screen like below. If you do, choose Mount.

11 Or you may get the screen below. If you do, press the USB connected Select to copy files to/from your computer. Then you ll see the screen below. Press Turn on USB storage.

12 You may then see this screen; just press OK: After you press OK, you ll see this screen below. Do NOT press anything! Just leave your Android as-is.

13 Now Windows will see your Android attached as a device and show you the screen below. Click Open folder to view files:

14 After you click Open folder to view files, Windows shows you the contents of your Android phone. Your phone looks like a removable drive. The folders may not be exactly as shown below, and the drive letter may be something other than G:. But it will be similar to this:

15 Copy the backup file you created with BlackBerry Desktop Software to your Android phone. Click and drag it from the desktop to the folder shown. After you copy the backup file to your Android, you should see it in the folder: Mac Users: There is one extra step for Mac users right now. When you back up your BlackBerry, you'll create a.bbb file. On Macs, that BBB file is actually a Zip file that contains the one file we need. So, you'll need to rename the.bbb to.zip, unzip it, then copy the Databases.IPD file to your Android. Then run 2Can to do the import. If that's too difficult, you can me your BBB file and I'll unzip and send you back the Databases.IPD file. Don't worry about privacy; I'm VERY careful, and lots of people have sent me their files. I'll be updating 2Can soon to handle this automatically. Now unplug your Android from the USB to your computer. You may hear a sound when you disconnect the cable; that s OK.

16 Step 3: Import Now start 2Can on your Android phone! 2Can is usually the first app in your list:

17 From 2Can s main screen, press Import my BB Backup file!

18 2Can will go look for the backup file you just copied on to your Android: Once 2Can finds your file, it will show you a list of matches. Some people like to have multiple versions of the BlackBerry backup file, but most people just have one. Touch the file to start the import:

19 You ll see 2Can working to import your backup. How long it takes to import depends on how much data your BlackBerry held, but it usually completes in less than five minutes. When 2Can completes, it tells you 2Can is done!

20 You re done! You can press the Android Back button to see the main screen. All of your contacts are in the standard Android Contacts (in the Phone or Contacts app). Your BlackBerry calls show up in your Android standard Phone app, just as if you had dialed them from you Android. SMS text messages are accessed from inside 2Can, as are your Memo Notes and Tasks/To-do lists: Congratulations! All of your data is now moved to the Android. Enjoy using 2Can; we use it every day!

21 FAQ Frequently Asked Questions Q: Any hints before I try to migrate? A: Be sure to fully charge your Android and your BlackBerry before starting the process. Q: I have a BlackBerry Z10 or Q10 phone. How can I get my 2Can transfer to work? A: Sorry to inform you we are unable to directly support the Z10/Q10, as BlackBerry encrypted (scrambled) the backup file. If you are able to restore your data to an older phone and use BlackBerry Desktop Manager 7.x to produce a BBB file with your data, 2Can will be able to import it. That's the only solution at this time; I wish there were a better answer. For the record, I try to inform everyone of this problem on the Google Play Store 2Can listing under known limitations but I know lots of people either can t or didn t read that section. Of course, I will issue you a full 100% refund if the solution above won t work for you! Q: I m getting an error that looks like this: manifest.xml:open,failed:enoent (no such file or directory) How do I get past this error? A: By any chance, did you do your backup using a Mac? If so, I completely understand your problem, and there is a 100% solution. For Mac users, there is an extra set of steps documented here in the PDF User Guide. I'll save you the trouble by pasting the steps here: Mac Users: There is one extra step for Mac users right now. When you back up your BlackBerry, you'll create a.bbb file. A: Here is what is on the Google Play Store listing under "known limitations": 3. Your SMS messages will be stored in a color-coded 2Can HTML file, not in the phone's native SMS app. You'll see everything, but you won't be able to reply. The reason: there is no unified API for Android SMS messages. Each phone manufacturer was allowed to implement SMS independently, with no published spec for interface. If this is a major limitation for you, let me know and I ll refund you. Please consider if you really need to be able to reply, or if reading the SMS text archives is sufficient for you. I had no choice on this one, sorry! Q: I have a Samsung phone and Windows XP, and I can t get my Android phone to show up as a disk drive.

22 XP doesn't recognize these new phones without installing a special driver. I think this is the correct link: Click on the Downloads tab then click on the EXE shown below. Make sure your phone is unplugged from the computer when you run this. After it completes, reboot your computer. After it comes all the way up, plug in your phone and you should be able to copy your BBB file. Q: 2Can is stuck on a screen that shows Parse: waiting to start A: We've had a couple of users report this error. Getting stuck at "Parse: waiting to start" indicates a potentially corrupted backup file transfer, or an incomplete file transfer. The way we've fixed it so far is to do a new backup from the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, and only include contacts (Address book), memo notes, call log, to-do list, and SMS messages. Then transfer that new BBB file to your phone, reboot your phone, and re-run 2Can. If that fails, eliminate one category of information until you find the one that s corrupted. For example, if your contacts and memo notes are the only important data you want to transfer, perform a BBB backup and select only contacts and memo notes (example shown below).

24 Q: What if I can t see any of my contacts? A: On your Android, go to the Contacts app, hit menu, display options, touch the account in the Choose contacts to display section. Usually the account is your Gmail account. Then Make sure there is a green checkbox next to each category, such as My Contacts, Friends, Family, and All Other Contacts. Note it has to be a green checkmark, because on some Android phones, a gray checkmark means it s not selected. Q: Nope, I can t see my contacts A: Press the Contacts app, press Menu, press Contacts to display, then select All contacts. Q: I still can t see any of my contacts! (Option for newer handsets) A: On your Android go to People, hit the menu button and select Accounts. Uncheck the box labeled Auto-sync app data. Your phone will now use the imported contacts instead of the contacts from any of your accounts.

25 Common Support Questions and Answers Saving Memo Notes to text From the main menu screen, go into Memo Notes. Then press the menu button on your Android. You'll see an option called "Save all Memo Notes to text". Press it, you'll get a confirmation that it saved, and then you can go retrieve the "2Can_MemoNotes.txt" file from your SD card/external memory. The file will be in the same location you originally placed your BBB file. That will have all of your 2Can memo notes inside. Then just copy that file to your laptop or wherever you need it. Note this method gives you the text of your Memo Notes, it has no ability to restore them to a new phone. Please let me know this worked for you. I put the feature into version you may need to do a free update if you have an older version. Z10/Q10/BB10 Very sorry to inform you 2Can is unable to support the Q and Z series phones, as BlackBerry encrypted (scrambled) the backup file. I do note that in the known limitations section on Google Play, but I know some folks do not read all of that information. 1. If you have a backup of an older BlackBerry phone before moving to the Z or Q, 2Can will consume it and work 100%. 2. If you are able to restore your data to an older BlackBerry phone and use BlackBerry Desktop Manager 7.x to produce a BBB file with your data, 2Can will be able to import it. 3. There is an app called Rainbow Contacts that moves contacts via BlueTooth. Some BB10 users have reported success with it. Note it will not handle the other data types such as Memo Notes, etc. Those are the only solutions at this time; I wish there were a better answer! I will issue you a 100% refund, but you are welcome to use 2Can using the method 1 or 2 described above. SMS text Regarding your SMS text message question, here is what is on the Google Play Store listing under "known limitations" (I know there is a lot to read there, and not everyone has the time to get through all of it): 1. Your SMS messages will be stored in a color-coded 2Can file called 2Can_SmsTextMessages.html, not in the phone's native SMS app. You'll see everything, but you won't be able to reply. The reason? 26 Moving Memo Notes, Tasks, and SMS Text Messages to a new Android phone So, you ve been a 2Can user for a long time (thanks!) and you have a new phone. You want to move your Memo Notes, Tasks, and transferred SMS Text Messages to your brand new phone! Please use the methods described below for backing up and restoring Memo Notes and Tasks. For your SMS Text messages that you originally transferred with 2Can, see the Transferring SMS section below. Backing up Memo Notes To move your Memo Notes to your new phone, press the menu button on the main screen and choose "Backup Memo Notes". You will see a message pop up on the screen that says "Backup created". That will create a file named "2CanMemoNotesData" on your external storage. Copy that file to a PC, or send it via or Google Drive to yourself using the free X-plore app. Restoring Memo Notes Basically, you simply copy the 2CanMemoNotesData file to your new phone's external storage. Put the 2CanMemoNotesData file in the bottom-most folder of your new phone s external storage, similar to what you originally did for your BBB file. Then use the "Restore Memo Notes" menu option on the new phone's 2Can main menu. Backing up and restoring Tasks The process is identical as described above for Memo Notes, except the file name is 2CanTasksData. This feature was introduced in 2Can version Transferring SMS For your SMS messages, there is a file called "2Can_SmsTextMessages.html" on your external storage (SD card). You can simply copy that file to the topmost directory of your new phone's external storage to view it there. Hope this helps! Lots of other users (including me!) have used this to move their 2Can data to a new phone. Exporting Memo Notes to Evernote From the 2Can Main Menu, choose Memo Notes. Then press the menu button on your Android phone (usually the menu button looks like three lines or three dots). You ll see an option labeled Export to Evernote files. Press that option. 2Can will tell you that it is exporting, and it will tell you when it s completed. When it s finished, connect your Android phone to your computer. Your phone should show up as a disk drive, just as it did when you did your original 2Can transfer of the BBB file. Browse to your phone, and look for a directory folder called 2CanEvernoteExport. That folder will have all of your Memo Notes saved as individual files. The name of each file is the title of each Memo Note. I had to remove any special characters (really, anything besides numbers and letters) from the file

27 names, but I also included the Memo Note title as the first line of text inside each file - that way, you don t lose any special formatting in your titles. Anyway, you ll want to copy those files onto your PC or Mac. Then you ll import the files into Evernote just as you would with any other type of file. Now you can use Evernote to be your Memo Note provider! I was able to successfully import my 2Can Memo Notes (all 722 of them!) int Evernote by downloading the Windows Evernote application, then I went to the Tools menu, and chose Import Folders. I navigated to the 2CanEvernoteExport folder I had previously copied to my PC, selected that folder, and it started importing. It took several minutes, even on a fast PC with a *very* fast Internet connection. So, patience is a virtue in this case. (Please note, I am unable to offer support for Evernote issues or questions.) Note: If you plug your Android phone into your PC after performing the Evernote export, and you cannot see the 2CanEvernoteExport directory, don t worry. There is a known bug in the Android operating system that sometimes prevent you from seeing new files and folders. Here are a few things to try: 1. Unplug from PC, then reboot your phone. When your phone comes back up, plug it in to the PC and you should see the new 2CanEvernoteExport folder and all your files. 2. If that doesn t work, go into Apps, Settings, Storage, touch Menu (the three dots or three lines or a menu button depending on your phone), then choose USB computer connection. With your phone plugged into your PC or Mac, uncheck Media device (MTP). You should hear a sound from your PC. Wait a second, then re-check it. You should then see the 2CanEvernoteExport folder from your PC.
