Select the new site node, and then click the Add Area button. Repeat this process to further define the equipment that NI InsightCM Server will monitor. Organize assets so they conform to the following format. Figure 3. Example Equipment-Layout Tree Tip A site can contain multiple areas, an area can contain multiple lines, and so on. For example, the previous screenshot shows a line with multiple equipment nodes. 5. Be sure to add component nodes under each equipment node. Components are the lowest level physical items that devices monitor. Examples of components include bearings, motors, and shafts. Examples of equipment include turbines, compressors, and generators. Later in this document you will map components to device channels. Note Ensure that you map channels correctly before you begin acquiring data as data acquired while a channel is mapped to a location is not updated when that channel mapping is changed. In the next section, you find the IP address of a device you want to connect to NI InsightCM Server. Getting Started with NI Condition Monitoring Systems & NI InsightCM Server National Instruments 3

Finding or Setting a Device IP Address Adding a device to NI InsightCM Server is easier if you know its IP address. Proceed with this document according to which of the following situations you are in: If you do not know the IP address of a device and the device is physically accessible, complete the steps in this section. If you do not know the device IP address but the device is not currently in an accessible location, proceed to the Adding the Device to NI InsightCM Server section. You will need to access the physical device later to connect the device to NI InsightCM Server. If you already know the device IP address, proceed to the Adding the Device to NI InsightCM Server section. Complete the following steps to find or set the IP address for a device: 1. Insert a USB drive into the USB port on the controller front panel. Within 20 seconds, the USER1 LED lights solid, which indicates that the device is reading from or writing to the settings file. Tip You can use the blank USB drive included in the NI InsightCM Server kit, if available. 2. Remove the USB drive when the USER1 LED returns to blinking steadily. 3. Insert the USB drive into a USB port on a computer. 4. Browse the file structure of the drive to the following directory: <RootLevel>:\InsightCM\download\NI-cRIO-ModelNumber- SerialNumber. 5. To view the current IP address, skip to step 6. To change the IP address or set the IP address to be static, copy the JSON file whose filename begins with networkinfo_ followed by the device hostname, such as networkinfo_ni-crio-modelnumber-serialnumber.json, to the following location on the USB drive: <RootLevel>:\InsightCM\upload. You might need to create the upload folder. 6. Open the JSON file whose name begins with networkinfo_ followed by the device hostname. 7. In the array that contains the line IsPrimary :true, the following line displays the current IP address: IPAddr : x.x.x.x where x.x.x.x is the IP address. 8. Assign an easily identifiable name, such as one that indicates the physical device location or the equipment it monitors. Hardware Name The hostname of the device, which is in the format of NI-cRIO-ModelNumber-SerialNumber. If you entered the IP address during step 3, NI InsightCM Server automatically populates this name. Otherwise, you can find the model and serial numbers printed on a label on the back of the device. 7. Click Finish. Systems Manager displays one of the following prompts: Do you want to send credentials to the device web server? Click Yes to transfer credentials across the network to the device. This prompt displays if you enter an IP address during step 3. 6 ni.com Getting Started with NI Condition Monitoring Systems & NI InsightCM Server

Do you want to export the device connection information file? Click Yes and save this file in a location where you can access it in the future. Later in this document, you will manually transfer credentials to the device via USB drive. This prompt displays when you do not enter an IP address during step 4. Note Device credentials consist of a temporary password that NI InsightCM Server expects the device to possess. Devices cannot come online and connect to NI InsightCM Server until they receive this temporary password. 8. Systems Manager automatically loads the Device Configuration page for the new device. In the next section, you configure the channels on the device in preparation for connecting the device to the server. Configuring Channels Before you connect the device to NI InsightCM Server, ensure the device configuration contains only channels from which you want to acquire data, and name the channels appropriately. Completing these tasks ensures that data the device acquires is useful and understandable. 1. Click the Channels tab on the Device Configuration page. The table of channels at the left side of the tab contains all the channels available on modules that NI InsightCM Server detected in the device. 2. Select any channels that are not connected to sensors, and then click the Remove button. Tip To select multiple channels to remove, <Ctrl> or <Shift>-click the channels. 3. Select one of the remaining channels. 4. On the Settings tab to the right of the channel table, click the Edit button beside the Channel Name field. 5. Enter an easily identifiable name, such as one that indicates the equipment or sensor the channel monitors. Channel names can contain only letters, numbers, dashes, underscores and spaces. 6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 for each remaining channel that you want to monitor. 7. When you finish renaming channels, proceed to the next section without saving the device configuration. You will save the configuration in the next section. In the next section, you map the channels to the equipment they monitor. Mapping the Device to the Equipment Layout In the Defining the Layout of Equipment to Be Monitored section, you represented the physical equipment to be monitored by NI Condition Monitoring Systems. Now that you added a device and configured its channels, you can complete the following steps to identify, or map, the specific equipment the device channels monitor. Getting Started with NI Condition Monitoring Systems & NI InsightCM Server National Instruments 7

Mapping channels to equipment allows the Data Explorer software to group data with the equipment that produced it. Mappings also allow users to find data in an intuitive structure. 1. Click the Equipment Layout tab on the Device Configuration page. Note You can switch between tabs on the Device Configuration page without discarding your changes. However, if you switch to a different page, such as the Dashboard page, before saving the device configuration, Systems Manager discards any changes you make. 2. Select Default in the Data Group pull-down menu. 3. In the Data Group Equipment section, click the Edit Data Group Location button. 4. A dialog box opens and displays the equipment-layout tree you defined. Click the node that contains the components that the device channels monitor. This can be a site, area, line, or equipment node, but it must have component nodes nested underneath it because you will map device channels to the components. Click Select. Figure 5. Selecting a Node to Map to the Device 5. Back on the Equipment Layout tab, select a channel in the Channel Equipment section, and then click the Edit button. Tip To map multiple channels to the same component, <Ctrl> or <Shift>-click the channels. 6. In the tree that displays again, select the component to which the channel is physically connected, and then click Select. You can select only component nodes. 8 ni.com Getting Started with NI Condition Monitoring Systems & NI InsightCM Server

The following screenshot shows a device with one channel mapped to a component of a piece of equipment. Figure 6. Mapping Channels to Components 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each channel on the device. 8. When you finish mapping channels to components, click the Save button. Note Ensure that you map channels correctly before you begin acquiring data as data acquired while a channel is mapped to a location is not updated when that channel mapping is changed. Saving a device configuration triggers NI InsightCM Server to send the configuration and software to the device. The status of the device determines your next steps: If you entered an IP address when you added the device, the device receives the update and automatically connects to NI InsightCM Server. Devices might require several minutes to come back online. Proceed to the Verifying Device Connectivity section. If you did not enter an IP address for the device when you added it, the device cannot receive the configuration. Proceed to the next section to allow the device to connect to NI InsightCM Server and receive the configuration. Getting Started with NI Condition Monitoring Systems & NI InsightCM Server National Instruments 9

Transferring Credentials to an Offline Device Note Complete this section only if you did not enter an IP address for the device in the Adding the Device to NI InsightCM Server section. If you entered an IP address, skip to the next section, Verifying Device Connectivity. If you added the device configuration without entering the IP address, the device cannot yet connect to NI InsightCM Server because it does not possess the credentials the server expects. Device credentials consist of a temporary password. Complete the following steps to transfer credentials to the device: 1. Find the device connection file you exported in step 7 of the Adding the Device to NI InsightCM Server section. If you did not export a connection file, return to the Devices page in Systems Manager, select the device, and then select Connection»Export Connection File from the Action pull-down menu in the top-right corner of the page. 2. Copy the file to a USB drive, within a folder named InsightCM\upload. The filename must be in the format of NI-cRIO-ModelNumber-SerialNumber.txt or the device cannot read it. Tip You can use the blank USB drive included in the NI InsightCM Server kit, if available. 3. Insert the USB drive into the USB port on the controller front panel. The USER1 LED lights solid, which indicates that the device is reading from the settings file. 4. Remove the USB drive when the USER1 LED returns to blinking steadily. When the device connects to NI InsightCM Server, the server software automatically inserts the IP address of the device into the device configuration. In other words, you do not need to manually enter the IP address. In the next section, you will verify the device connected to the server successfully. 10 ni.com Getting Started with NI Condition Monitoring Systems & NI InsightCM Server

Verifying Device Connectivity After you send the connection information to the device, it automatically connects to NI InsightCM Server. Complete the following steps to verify that the device connects successfully: 1. In Systems Manager, click the Dashboard navigation button, and then click the Main tab. Figure 7. Dashboard Page, Main Tab 2. In the table of devices, verify that the Connection column for the device contains Online, which means the device finished updating and connected successfully. Tip The device might require several minutes to download configuration files and reboot before it connects to the server and comes online. During this time, the device status might change multiple times. Click the Refresh button to see the latest status. Performing an Acquisition Now that the device is online with all relevant channels mapped to equipment components, it can begin acquiring data. 1. On the Main tab of the Dashboard page, double-click the device you added to display its Device Dashboard page. Notice the status indicator in the top-right corner that indicates the device status. Figure 8. Device Status Indicator for Online Devices Getting Started with NI Condition Monitoring Systems & NI InsightCM Server National Instruments 11

If the status is not Online, refer to the Troubleshooting Devices That Do Not Come Online topic of the NI InsightCM Server Configuration and Monitoring Help. 2. Click the Action pull-down menu in the top-right corner and select Force Trigger to instruct the device to perform an acquisition from all its channels. 3. Wait several seconds for the acquisition to complete, and then click the Refresh button. The Features table should list the values of features, such as RMS, calculated from the acquisition with a recent timestamp. Note Before the data is available, devices must perform the acquisition, and then NI InsightCM Server must receive and store the data. The settings that determine the duration of force-triggered acquisition are located on the Acquisition tab of the Device Configuration page. For a complete list of ways you can configure a device to perform acquisitions, refer to the Methods for Initiating Device Acquisitions topic of the NI InsightCM Server Configuration and Monitoring Help. 12 ni.com Getting Started with NI Condition Monitoring Systems & NI InsightCM Server
