LEGRAND AT CES 2016 OPENNESS, PARTNERSHIP AND ALLIANCES: THE LEGRAND STRATEGY FOR THE IOT MARKET PRESS KIT JANUARY 2016 #LegrandCES #LegrandEliot
2 INTRODUCTION For the second year in a row, Legrand is participating in the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) at Las Vegas from 6 to 9 January The CES is the not-to-be-missed global event for new technologies, where robotics, biotechnologies, software and connected objects can be found side-by-side. In 2015, it attracted more than 3,600 exhibitors from 153 countries and welcomed about 176,000 visitors (including 48,000 from outside the United States). Present on 3 different booths (Allseen Alliance, ZigBee Alliance and La Poste), in order to show the full extent of its know-how in terms of interoperability, Legrand is presenting solutions that are innovative, connected and resolutely user-focused.
3 THREE QUESTIONS FOR BRUNO BARLET What justifies the presence of Legrand at CES this year? CES is a not-to-be-missed meeting for all the actors in the connected home. For Legrand, as a global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructures, CES provides the opportunity to present our know-how and our innovations in smart home solutions. It was at CES 2014 that we met Qualcomm, a meeting which led us to join the Allseen Alliance in Last year, La Poste unveiled their IoT project and this year we are present as a partner. Why is Legrand present on three different booths? Because the Legrand approach is a partnership approach, interoperable and pragmatic. In order to respond to all of our customers requirements, we want to work with all the stakeholders and are not looking to impose one standard over another. Being present this year on the Allseen, La Poste and ZigBee booths demonstrates our capability to offer products that operate regardless of protocol, an approach that is further confirmed by our partnerships with Nest Weave, Samsung, etc. BRUNO BARLET, GROUP EXECUTIVE VP STRATEGY & DEVELOPMENT / CHIEF DIGITAL OFFICER How were these partnerships and alliances chosen? Our choice of partners is always based on the real-life needs and usages of our customers. Depending on these aspects, we choose the right technologies to provide the right answers. We have chosen to work with these three partners because they allow us to cover 100% of our customer requirements today.
4 THE SOLUTIONS PRESENTED BY LEGRAND AT CES 2016
5 LEGRAND ON THE ALLSEEN ALLIANCE BOOTH SANDS EXPO HALL A-C, LEVEL 2, BOOTH NUMBER Legrand is an active member of the Allseen Alliance, one of the most important international consortiums intended to promote the global adoption of products, systems and services for the Internet of Things based on a shared technology. The members of the alliance cooperate on an open software project supported by the entire industry (about 150 major high tech brands) and based on AllJoyn technology which accepts the contributions of the members and the open source community.
6 ON THE BOOTH, THE VISITORS CAN EXPERIENCE IN PARTICULAR: The colour switch Using a centre dial and four little push-buttons, the colour switch can customise the lighting ambience of a room (choice of colour, intensity and saturation). By using the AllJoyn language, this switch, originally designed to control a Legrand application, can now control LED products from different brands, such as LifX, even though they were initially designed with their own protocol. Colour switch My Home Automation - Legrand The scenario switch Operating on the same principles as the colour switch, this device can also control other parameters and interact with other applications such as heating, alarms and even background music (chosen from the user s own music library). Scenario switch My Home Automation - Legrand
7 LEGRAND ON THE LA POSTE BOOTH SANDS EXPO HALL A-C, LEVEL 2, BOOTH NUMBER Legrand is present on the French IoT / La Poste booth, a partnership unveiled in October This collaboration is intended to make the Legrand connected offerings, by way of their new API, compatible with the new La Poste Digital Hub cloud platform. It also consists of working together, and with other shared partners, on the emergence of innovative IoT usage cases. Today, by connected home, we also mean a home in which everyday objects can interact even though they were not originally developed with this goal in mind. We are seeing the emergence of different stakeholders in the IoT that want to play this role of conductor in the interconnection of products. Connected to a diversity of offerings via IP, these players can themselves create scenarios and interactions between products in different areas that did not initially speak the same language. So many possibilities that allow the creation of an entire field of new applications and innovative services for the general public. At CES 2016, Legrand will show its integration with the all-new La Poste Digital Hub, illustrating this openness to third-party cloud platforms, explains Jean-Pierre Viannay. JEAN-PIERRE VIANNAY VP PARTNERSHIP AND EXTERNAL RELATIONS DEVELOPMENT FRANCE
8 ON THE BOOTH, THE VISITORS CAN DISCOVER: My Home Play, a wireless connected switch offering. The solutions presented are: The Céliane connected switch Attuned to the needs of the public for comfort and innovation, this transmitter switch can locally combine multiple functions, connected via a wireless system to receiver switches for lighting, roller shutters and mobile sockets. This wireless offering is accessible without reengineering the customer s electrical installation. The radio receiver switches can be fitted as a replacement for existing switches. The wireless centralisation controls can be positioned anywhere without damage to the walls. This allows the creation of a connected home even though it wasn t originally designed that way. Scenario transmitter switch Céliane - Legrand Remote control This My Home Play offering is completed by a remote control device using an IP gateway and a smartphone application. The IP-radio gateway simply connects to a power socket and the ADSL box. By working with the My Home Play application (available free of charge for Android or Apple) it allows the user to control their home via their smartphone. This fun and intuitive application allows them to control their home locally or remotely and to implement smart actions. For example, simulating presence during periods of absence, checking that the lights are off or turning them off, closing the shutters if it rains, or shutting down your entire house with a single click when leaving. IP-Radio gateway Legrand My Home Play application
9 LEGRAND ON THE ZIGBEE ALLIANCE BOOTH SANDS EXPO HALL A-C, LEVEL 2, BOOTH NUMBER ZigBee is the open global wireless standard for the Internet of Things. It is designed to make simple and smart objects work together, increasing the comfort and efficiency of everyday life. Legrand is a long-standing member of the ZigBee Alliance. For the occasion of CES 2016, the ZigBee Alliance will launch version 3.0 of its protocol. This new version of the protocol will extend the field of interoperability between various products manufactured to the ZigBee standard.
10 ON THE BOOTH, THE VISITORS CAN DISCOVER: The Green Power switch This low energy consumption Legrand switch can perform multiple actions simultaneously on separate products (e.g. power sockets, lamps, LED wall, TV etc.) of different brands. Legrand Green Power switch The NFC application (Near Field Communication) Managed from a smartphone, this application can exchange information between two equipped devices. Suitable for household appliances, it can manage lamps or power sockets from a smartphone.
11 LEGRAND IN THE CONNECTED HOME MARKET
12 LEGRAND AND THE MARKET In 2014, there were nearly 14 billion connected devices worldwide. By 2020, there should be 50 billion. (Source Cisco) As the global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructures, Legrand is speeding up the development of its connected offering. With more than 200 million in sales in 2014 and 20 connected product families out of a total of 81, Legrand launched the ELIOT program in July This program targets the development of connected and interoperable solutions providing lasting benefits to both consumers and professional users. LEGRAND S OBJECTIVE Double-digit growth in the Internet of Things market in the building industry between now and 2020, and 40 connected product families in its catalogue as against 20 today.
13 THREE QUESTIONS FOR JÉRÔME BOISSOU What is ELIOT? ELIOT is a contraction of Electricity and Internet of Things. This global program implemented by Legrand is intended to offer connected object solutions and upgradable electrical and digital infrastructures. What is the program for? ELIOT marked products provide four guarantees. Firstly, enhanced value in use. At Legrand, connected products are designed to make everyday life easier. Secondly, ELIOT provides simplicity and ease of use and installation, two values strongly anchored in the Legrand DNA. The third ELIOT guarantee is the confidentiality of user data. We comply with local regulations. In addition, data confidentiality is ensured by the use of secure servers. Finally, being developed by a group such as Legrand which has been in existence for over 100 years, ELIOT stands for long-term upgradability. JÉRÔME BOISSOU, ELIOT BY LEGRAND (IOT) MARKETING MANAGER What are Legrand s ambitions for ELIOT? With ELIOT, we certainly want to generate growth by developing more intelligent solutions, particularly in the fields of home automation, assisted living, and security. We also want to open up more to professional users by developing concierge, energy management and data maintenance services which will complete the services that we already offer. More generally, thanks to this program, we will be able to respond to the numerous evolving needs of our customers and to enrich their daily lives thanks to offerings that aren t just electrical but also digital.
