Preface Dear customer or prospect, Thank you for choosing FastViewer or for your interest. Whether for presentations, coordination processes, training, support or maintenance: Fast and perfect service is the key to being successful in business today. Achieving such success without FastViewer is often associated with high financial and time commitments. However, with FastViewer, you have a module with which you can set up a secure connection to your customers at any time and anywhere in the world. You can thus offer your customers a fast, secure and efficient communication platform as well as premium support, which is what every customer is looking for. With FastViewer you not only increase your productivity and customer satisfaction, but also create trust and loyalty. FastViewer was designed for ease of use and can be operated quickly and easily by any user. Many users deploy firewalls or proxy servers, which cause traditional systems to fail - FastViewer, by contrast, works even when firewalls and proxy servers are enabled. 4
Brief Description The ideal solution for perfect communication, teamwork and conferences - worldwide. Show, visualize, and train your customers, partners and colleagues actively via the Internet. With FastViewer it is possible (depending on your edition) to invite up to 100 participants to an active session and to communicate with them, train them, or present them with a variety of content. The moderator, who initiates the session, only needs to notify the relevant customers, partners or colleagues of the automatically generated session ID (e.g., by , an instant invitation or the phone). After entering the session ID, all parties can actively participate in the conference. (On initiating a conference, a password can be additionally defined) This ensures an effective and efficient way of working and training. By clicking on the STOP button, the session can be terminated immediately at any time. The previously fixed costs incurred for presentations or training sessions can be significantly reduced by savings in travel costs, travel time as well as living expenses and the cost of accommodation. Furthermore, information is communicated with FastViewer not only much faster, but also more flexibly and effectively, worldwide and in real time! System Requirements: Operating system: Windows XP SP3/Windows Server 2003 SP2 or newer Prerequisites: Internet access Recommended system requirements: Internet access with cable or DSL operating at 2000 Kbit/s 5
Setting up a Connection with FastViewer FastViewer consists of two modules: The master module "FastMaster.exe" includes your license and must not be passed on to customers. This module represents the session initiator. The client module "FastClient.exe" can be passed on to anyone. For example, you could make this module available to your customers as well as business partners via your Internet presence. The size of the module also allows it to be sent by and thus guarantees the fastest possible and spontaneous communication. To begin a session, start the master module "FastMaster.exe". After starting up and connecting to the appropriate communication server, you are already presented with the opened module: FastViewer Sidebar (FSB) FastViewer Startup Dialog The opened FastViewer master module consists of two main elements. Firstly, the "FSB" (FastViewer Sidebar), which provides the functions and options, and secondly, the "Startup Dialog", which shows the functions that have been started. Depending on the acquired edition, these may differ. 6
To improve clarity, you can retract and extend the "FSB" by clicking on the sidebar button ( / ). The participant starts the FastViewer Client Module (FastClient.exe), for example, by downloading it from your website. After starting up, the following window appears: To set up a connection, the participant must enter the Session ID (as well as the password chosen by the master, if defined) and click "Connect". (If a password is to be used, an input prompt will then be displayed for this.) 7
The participant then receives the following request: "Share this desktop" If the check box is selected, your counterpart will be able to view your desktop after it is shared. "Allow remote control" (only Support/Conference) allows your counterpart to get access to your computer's mouse and keyboard. Clicking on Share all apps grants access to the desktop for the entire duration of the current session. You can change the shared application in the sidebar at any time. "Select Applications" enables you to select the applications that you want to transfer before you share the desktop. If you click this button, all applications are disabled by default. Clicking on "Cancel" blocks the access. After the release, the connection between the master and client is established immediately. 8
Master Module With the "FastMaster.exe" master module, you can invoke the startup console of your desktopsharing solution. If you have acquired a workplace-independent license, you can start the master module as a licensee from any computer. You can place it on your network or on your desktop. Alternatively, you can save the module on a storage medium (e.g., a USB stick, external hard disk drive) in order to work with it at any time from anywhere in the world. To begin a session, start the "FastMaster.exe" master module and click on the desired field in the startup dialog. (For example, as shown in the figure below, the field "Conference") 9
Session number: For each session, a five-digit number is generated automatically. Communicate this number to your session partners (by phone or ) in order to establish a connection to you. Input field "Password": (can be optionally selected for conferences) Under "Password", you can additionally set a session password that you also communicate (by phone or by or instant invitation) to your conference participants. Input field "User Name": Under "User Name", you can enter any name. This name is your identification for the following session and appears later in the session log as the conference leader. The windows user name is stored as the default for this. "Copy Session ID" button: Clicking on this button copies the generated session number to the clipboard. You now have the option of copying the session ID with a "right-click/paste" into an , for example. "Send invitation" button: Use this function in order to invite your desired participants to a FastViewer session. Clicking on "Send invitation" opens your default application. The session number, password and client module are already integrated. The invitation text can be edited via your personal online portal. 10
Conference planner Plan your future conferences in advance. Send invitations to a scheduled conference to inform the desired participants well in time. You can see an overview of all planned conferences: By double-clicking a conference, you can Edit it. To delete a scheduled conference, click the red "X" in front of that session. New: Invite: Start: Creates a new conference date. You can define the name, start time, duration (min) and a comment for the session. After clicking on "Save", the session can be seen in the overview. Here, you can assign an optional conference password. This does not appear in the invitation and must be communicated by a different method. Select the desired conference in the overview and click "Invite" to create an invitation that contains all the session information and a link to the client module. When the customer starts this module, he or she sees a dialog that shows the scheduled start of the conference, or directly joins the session if you have already initiated it with a click on "Start". Select a conference and start it by clicking on "Start" Note: The times listed in the log it always is UTC time (UniversalTime). 11
Additional Information: Each of the available toolbars, which are located in the sidebar, can be arranged as desired. You can do this by simply dragging and dropping the appropriate bar to the desired position. Alternatively, you can use the button to "undock" the bar. Double-clicking on the bar head reintegrates the function bar into the sidebar again. (Alternatively, click on the button ) 12
Master module FSB - Shortcut bar To enable the shortcut bar, you simply move the mouse pointer over the Sidebar icon. ( / ) The "Shortcut bar" includes the following options: Create a new session (see page 13) Open file transfer (see page 14) Open portmapper tool (see page 16) Change view direction (see page 18) Switch zoom mode (see page 18) Whiteboard (see page 18) Interrupt remote control (see page 21) Session recording (see page 21) Special Functions (see page 21) Choose image quality (see page 23) "Create a new session" button: Immediately after the clicking on the button, a further session number will be provided in the startup dialog. It is thus possible to run multiple sessions concurrently. Click in the startup dialog on the tab with the appropriate session number to switch between the individual sessions. 13
"Open file transfer" button: This function enables you to access the file system of your counterpart and transfer files. The File Transfer feature enables files to be easily exchanged. For example, log and database files, installation files, and even entire directories can thus be transferred between the master and clients. After clicking on the button, the following window appears: The participant receives the following request: Clicking on "Always" grants access for file transfers for the entire duration of the current session. "Agree" provides a one-off release; for the next access, the request must be granted again. Clicking on "Cancel" blocks the access. After the permission is granted, the master can access the file system of the client. The upper area in the startup dialog displays the remote computer (client), and the lower portion shows the own workplace (master). 14
During the transfer, you can also return to the presented desktop at any time. To stop the file transfer, click the "X" of the corresponding tab in the startup dialog. In addition to the ability to switch between the various participants and thus access their file systems, every activity is recorded in the transfer log. (Action performed, date/time of the change) The following functions can be used for the file transfer: - Refreshing the view - Upload - Download - Synchronize folders (For more information, see below) - Cancelling the transfer Synchronize folders: (matching the contents of two folders) Match the status of two folders by simply clicking on this button. Files or even subfolders which only exist on the remote or local system are copied to the opposite side. If a file or folder with the identical file/folder name already exists on both sides, the older one is replaced by the newer version. It is thus possible to update and synchronize processing statuses, e.g., during a project, within seconds. Additional Information: By right-clicking on the corresponding file, you can "Rename" or "Delete" it or change its "Attributes". ("System"/"Hidden"/"Read Only"/"Archive") These functions can also be applied to folders. To create a new folder, click the right mouse button on the parent folder (or the appropriate partition) and select "New Folder ". 15
"Open portmapper tool" (FPM) button: Port mapping enables TCP ports to be directly mapped for local access across operating system boundaries. This function has a wide range of applications. For example, it can be used to access network devices in general as well as access control systems or even Linux devices. "Remote client": Select a client via which the connection to the destination host is to be established. "To remote service [host:port]": The destination is defined by entering the IP address, DNS name or port. (The host:port information that was already entered during the session can be retrieved again via the drop-down menu) "Local Port": Specify which local port is to be used for the connection here. When you have configured the settings, click on "Connect" to set up the connection to the specified host via the corresponding port. The participant receives the following request: Clicking on "Share" grants access to the port mapper for the entire duration of the current session. If you do not have Windows administration rights, you will be prompted for them. The port mapper can only be activated only if it is released by a domain administrator or a local administrator. Clicking on "Cancel" blocks the access. 16
"Remote connections": Client ID: Server Port: Map to: Port: "Active Connections": from IP: from Port: to Host: to Port: Shows all mapped ports Name of the PC Local port IP/DNS name of the remote host Port of the remote host Shows all active connections Local IP Local port IP of the remote host Port of the remote host If a connection is no longer required, it can be selected under "Remote Mappings" and discarded by clicking on "Disconnect". Additional Information: While the Port mapper is being used, you can simultaneously return to the presented desktop or access another function that has been started via the tab system in the startup dialog. To close the port mapper, click on the "X" of the corresponding tab. 17
"Change view direction" button: By clicking on "Change view direction", you can switch from the viewer to the presenter, or from the presenter to the viewer. "Switch zoom mode" button: As a viewer, this function allows you to switch between the view of the full screen and a portion thereof. As a presenter, you change the view for all viewers by clicking on this button. "Open whiteboard" button: This symbol is a button for a Whiteboard that you can use to emphasize what has been shown. 18
On starting the whiteboard, a screenshot of the current screen contents of the presenter is used. Several different elements such as free-style drawings, frames, lines, markers, images or even texts can be placed on it. It is also possible to save the whiteboard, including all inserted elements. While using the whiteboard, you can simultaneously return to the presented desktop at any time or access other started functions by using the tab system in the startup dialog. To close the whiteboard, click the "X" of the corresponding tab. 19
While using the "Whiteboard", you have the following options: Create New Whiteboard: This function lets you create multiple whiteboards. Apart from the size of the new whiteboard, you can also select a bitmap as the background. To close the whiteboard, click the "X" of the corresponding tab. Reset Drawings: To get a new whiteboard, you do not necessarily have to create a second one. This function enables you to reset the whiteboard and return to the starting situation of a new whiteboard. Clear Whiteboard: The entire whiteboard is reset in the process, and the desktop of the presenter is replaced by a white background. Save as Bitmap: Click on this button, select a storage location and save the entire whiteboard. Undo the last operation: Undo the last change made. If you click on this button again, all changes are undone in sequence. Close all whiteboards: Closes all whiteboards. Free drawing: A "pin" that allows freehand drawing. Mark important details: Highlight texts with a defined color. Draw line: Draw a straight line. Draw rectangle: Draw a rectangle. Draw circle or ellipse: Draw a circle or ellipse. Draw filled rectangle: Draw a filled rectangle. Write text: Add text to graphics or drawings. Simply click on the whiteboard and "drag" open a text box. 20
Insert image from file: Select the relevant image and drag it onto the whiteboard. You thus have the option of determining the size and position of the image. Delete: "Eraser" to erase drawings and inputs. Line thickness of all drawings/font size: Select the desired font size and line width with this function. Change color: Select the desired font color and line color. Object preview: You can see the currently selected color and form here. 21
"Stop remote control" button: Click this button to prevent the remote maintenance of your system. Your counterpart now has no way to move your mouse or transfer keyboard entries. Instead of clicking the button, you can also press the "F11" key. This function is only available to the presenter. "Session recording" button: Press this button to start the recording session. If you press the button again at a later time, you are prompted for a location to save the recording. Your recording will be converted to a proprietary format and saved as an exe file. (alternatively,.fvwrec) With the "FastViewer Player", your recording is secured against falsification and tampering. Additional Information: By using a Start parameter, the module can be configured so that the session is automatically recorded right from the beginning. "Special functions" button: Under "Special tools", you have the following options: > Send Alt-Tab: Transmits the "Alt-Tab" key combination. > Send Ctrl-Esc: Transmits the "Ctrl-Esc" key combination. > Transmit Keyboard Scancodes: Normally, a virtual key code is transmitted during keyboard inputs. However, a key code can be assigned differently for different keyboard layouts. However, if the "Transmit Keyboard Scancodes" function is activated, the position of the key is transmitted instead of the virtual key code. (Again, the keyboard mapping can vary with different keyboard layouts.) > Start Task Manager: Starts the Task Manager on the presenter's side 22
> System information/remote Task Manager: The SysInfo contains important information on the system state of the PC, e.g., an overview of all system components or the available disk space. Additionally, there is an integrated remote task manager, which makes it possible to display or terminate the current processes. As soon as you have activated the function, the participant receives a request: After the confirmation, you have full access to the system information: 23
> Test connection performance This function tests the data transfer rate of the Internet connection to the FastViewer server. This enables connection problems that may occur to be quickly localized. > Lock remote screen: Locks the presenter's desktop and informs him or her with the status text "Workstation is currently remote-controlled and locked" displayed on the desktop. > Suppress desktop transmission: This function can be used to hide the desktop of the customer. "Choose image quality" button: Select the color quality of the image to be transmitted. The following settings are available: "Low, Normal, High, Lossless". This function can only be used with 1 to 1 connections. Additional Information: Depending on which version (Instant Meeting / Secure Advisor) or profile of the software is running, the functionality changes. The functions set via the customer portal are either displayed or hidden depending on the setting. 24
Master module FSB - Session Under "Session", you will find the following options: Session ID.: Clients: Password: Lock session: Current session ID Number of clients Password used (by clicking in the field, you can change it at any time) Clicking "On" makes it impossible for others to subsequently participate in the session. The session is thus "locked". 25
Master module FSB - Clients Under "Participants", you will find the following options: All the participants present in the current session are shown under "Participants". You can configure the rights of the clients or their displayed names here by double-clicking on them. (Alternatively, by clicking on the icon and "Rename") In addition, you can clear the connection to specific clients or transfer the moderator rights by right-clicking and selecting the function. "Share Screen" shows the presenter, "Remote Control" the moderator/participant with control rights. They can be reassigned by clicking on. Function privileges are controlled via two groups - active clients and passive clients. To customize a group privilege, click on the symbol for the respective group. The following custom options are available: Chat - send permission Fileboard - Upload permission Video - show permission Voice - speak permission Whiteboard - drawing permission In addition, you can determine the group membership of new participants. This means that you can configure whether new clients are to be added to the list of active clients or passive clients. (New clients are active/new clients are passive) Clicking on generates an invitation with a link that leads directly to the session. The recipient of the clicks on the link to start the client module, which leads directly to the session. (without entering a session ID) 26
Master module FSB - Application filter Under "Application filter", you will find the following options: Show Sidebar: This check box can be used to select whether the FastViewer sidebar of the presenter is to be transmitted. Show new applications: Clear this check box if applications and windows started in the future should not be transmitted. Show Desktop: Disable this button to hide the presenter's desktop, including the desktop icon. Show Taskbar: This check box can be used to select whether the task bar of the presenter is to be transmitted. All open windows and applications are listed below these options. Here you can control whether or not these are to be transmitted. A click on the corresponding "+" lists the individual windows of the application. 27
Master module FSB - Screen If the presenter has multiple monitors, this function can be used to select the monitor to be transmitted. This provides clarity and enhances usability. Click on the respective monitor to transmit it. By clicking between the displayed monitors, the entire virtual desktop can be displayed again. Additional Information: The keyboard shortcut CTRL-N can also be used to switch from one screen to the other. N represents the ID of the monitor. 28
Master module FSB - Chat Under "Chat", you have the following options: Text field: This window shows all the sent chat messages including the time stamp and the sender. Recipients: Choose whether your chat message(s) should be sent to all the participants. It is also possible to send it explicitly to one participant. New added participants only see the chat messages from the time that they have joined.. 29
Master module FSB - Fileboard Under "Fileboard" you have the following options: Available Files: Client: Status: Size: Upload: Download: Cancel: Delete: File name(s) of the uploads Name of the user that supplied the file. Shows whether the file is currently being uploaded or already available for download. Size of the uploaded file Select a file that you want to provide to the participants. Alternatively, you can also drag & drop the desired file into the fileboard. Please note that all uploaded files are visible to all participants (even if they join the session later). Click on a file and download it via the "Download" button. With this button, you can cancel an upload. Delete an uploaded file that is no longer needed. 30
Master module FSB - Video / My Video Would you like to share more than just the desktop with your session clients? The "My Video" feature allows you to transmit the video of your webcam. However, if you do not have any webcam on site, you can alternatively also have a picture of yourself displayed during the session. Click on "Video" to have the webcam video or picture displayed to your session participants. Each participant's name can be seen below the corresponding video. "My Video" shows your video or picture and offers the following configuration options: By clicking on this icon, you can select the device for video transmission, such as your webcam or, as already mentioned, a picture. Click the Down arrow to select between "Low Quality", "Normal Quality" or "High Quality". This determines the quality of your transmitted video. You can, of course, also enable or disable the video transmission generally ("On/Off"). Using the thumbnail, you can always check at any time what is currently being transmitted as an image or video to the other participants. You thus have full control of your video transmission at all times. Additional Information: The video quality is limited by your available bandwidth. Under some circumstances, it may be that this is not enough to transmit to your video in high quality. If this is the case, please change the quality of the video. 31
Master module FSB - Audio With the help of this function, it is possible to send or receive audio signals using VoIP. Use this feature together with your microphone/headset or even your speaker system. This is an attractive alternative to the simple telephone for conferences, in particular, since also lets you communicate exclusively through your PC. By clicking on the icon ( ), you can select the device for the sound output, e.g., your speaker system. In the adjacent bar, you can regulate the volume. The "On/Off" button can be used to enable or disable the function. With this icon ( ), you can select the device to be used as well as the recording volume displayed next to it. In addition, you can click "Mute" to disable the transmission of your audio signal. Additional Information: The audio quality is limited by your available bandwidth. This bandwidth may not always be sufficient for transmitting an error-free signal. Furthermore, FastViewer recommends the use of a headset, since the use of other communication tools could lead to back coupling and thus make it difficult to communicate. 32
Master module FSB - Log messages All the functions performed during a session can be seen in chronological order in the Log messages. In addition, each new message is displayed for 3 seconds. You have the option to save the Log messages when the session ends. There is a corresponding button in the End dialog. 33
Master module FSB - Information To obtain a technical overview of the session, click on "Information". Here you see the used communication server (the server used for the connection between the master and client) "Connection type" shows the protocol used for the communication. Under "Receiving" and "Sending" you see the number of bytes received and sent per second. "Total received:"/"total sent:" show the total amounts. "Profile" shows the active profile that was selected in the customer portal when downloading. "Version" informs you about the currently used version number. Please make sure that you always use the latest version. 34
Master module FSB - Telephone conference On the "Telephone conference" tab you will find the access numbers and the six-digit PIN code for the phone conference. The six-digit PIN code is derived from your session ID plus a leading zero. After you have dialed the appropriate access number, you are prompted to press "digit 1" on your keypad, after which you only need to specify the PIN code in order to enter to the conference room. FastViewer Dial-in Numbers Country Phone number Rate Germany Austria Switzerland Dial-in via normal land line number 35
Master Module FSB User Manager The User Manager meets the following requirements: - Start the master only after a successful login - User-dependent use of Support, Presentation or Conference - Logging in only at certain times - Combine multiple users in groups - Combine multiple privileges in roles - Enforce complex passwords - Setting a minimum length for passwords - Using single sign on (after importing users from the Active Directory) - Importing users from an Active Directory (AD) or a CSV file The general rule is that each user can be a member of exactly one group. Furthermore, each group must have exactly one role. "User Manager" button In order to start the User Manager, you will need to enter your serial number and the password from your license when you log in for the first time. Please note that the User Manager can always be started by only one user at a time. The User Manager is divided into 4 tabs: - General Settings - Users - Group - Roles 36
General Settings: User Manager ON: This setting lets you decide whether a login is mandatory every time the master is started. If it is not, the login is requested only when using the User Manager or the Remote console. Use complex passwords: Selecting this check box enforces the use of complex passwords. These must then contain at least one lowercase letter, one uppercase letter, one digit and one special character. Minimum password length: Sets the minimum number of characters a password must contain. The minimum length is always 1; blank passwords are not allowed. Use single sign on: If you have imported users from the Active Directory, you can use the single sign-on feature for these users. In this case, a check is performed on starting the master to determine whether the logged in Windows user is included in the list of users and has the right to log in. If yes, the user is automatically logged in at the master. 37
Users: You can assign a long name for each user in the Name field. This name appears in the Users list. Every user must be a member of a group; otherwise, the user cannot be saved. With "Valid until" you can specify in advance whether an account should be valid for only a certain time, e.g., for interns, temporary workers or the like The "CSV Import" button can be used to import users from an Excel list or a CSV file. The individual values must be delimited by a ; (semi-colon). The list must contain a header row, which will be skipped during the import. The values must be in the following order: Login name; Name; Password; Login allowed Login allowed must be set to 0 or 1 The Import LDAP button can be used to import users from an Active Directory. The advantage here is that a single sign-on can be used for these users. You have the option to import all users of your Active Directory or only users from specific organizational units (OUs). 38
The password that the user has in the Active Directory is not imported. Consequently, a default password must be specified for the new users during the import. This password is valid only if Single Sign On is not used or if a login via the Active Directory is not possible. In addition, note that the import function for a large number of users ( > 1000) generates an increased load on your Active Directory Server, so the operation could take several minutes. Users who have already been imported are updated when the display name has changed. You can perform the import any number of times. New users are then added. However, no users are deleted from the User Manager when they are no longer present in the AD. The user ROOTUSER cannot be deleted or modified; only the password can be changed. The login name of the user is always your serial number, and the password is initially set to the password from your license . 39
Groups: A group enables multiple users to be collectively managed as a group. Each group must be a member of a role. At the group level, you can set specific times for logging in, specify whether or not members of a group may log in and also choose which folders on the remote console can be accessed. In order for a user to log in, he or she must have the right to log in on the group level and the user level. The group ROOTGROUP cannot be modified or deleted. 40
Roles: The purpose of roles Use of Profiles: You can allow or deny certain users the use of individual profiles. In addition, you can restrict the number of parallel sessions in which a user may participate. Admin rights: Use User Manager: Create objects: Edit Objects: Delete Object: Reset password of other users: General Settings: The right to start the User Manager The right to create new users, groups or roles The right to edit existing users, groups or roles The right to delete existing users, groups or roles The right to change the passwords of other users The right to change the General Settings Conference rights: Show conferences of all users: The right to show the conferences of all other users. 41
Remote rights: Move computers: Change computers: Delete computers: Create Folder: Move Folder: Edit Folder: Delete Folder: Auto-Update: The right to move existing computers in the Remote Console The right to edit information on computers in the Remote Console The right to delete existing computers in the Remote Console The right to new folders in the Remote Console The right to move existing folders in the Remote Console The right to edit existing folders in the Remote Console The right to delete existing folders in the Remote Console The right to execute an auto-update on the computers 42
Client module The participant starts the FastViewer client module, for example, by downloading it from your website. After starting up, the following window appears: To set up the connection, the participant must enter the session ID and click "Connect". (If a password has been defined by the master, a prompt is displayed.) On clicking "Connect", the connection between the master and client is set up immediately. 43
(Alternatively, click on the button ) 44
Client module FSB - Shortcut bar To enable the shortcut bar, you simply move the mouse pointer over the Sidebar icon. ( / ) The "Shortcut bar" includes the following options: Switch zoom mode (see page 44) Whiteboard (see page 44) Interrupt remote control (see page 47) Session recording (see page 47) "Switch zoom mode" button: As a viewer, this function allows you to switch between the view of the full screen and a portion thereof. As a presenter, you change the view for all viewers by clicking on this button. "Open whiteboard" button: Behind this symbol you will find a whiteboard with which you can highlight whatever is being shown. On starting the whiteboard, a screenshot of the current screen contents of the presenter is used. Several different elements such as free-style drawings, frames, lines, markers, images or even texts can be placed on it. It is also possible to save the whiteboard, including all inserted elements. 45

Function privileges are controlled via two groups - active clients and passive clients. The following customization options are available to the moderator for this purpose: Chat - send permission Fileboard - Upload permission Video - show permission Voice - speak permission Whiteboard - drawing permission Only the moderator has control of these permissions. 50
Client module FSB - Application filter Under "Application filter", you will find the following options: Show Sidebar: Do you want to show the FastViewer window incl. the sidebar? Show new applications: Enable this button if you want to transmit started applications and windows in the future. Show Desktop: If the desktop of the presenter is to be visible, activate this button. Show Taskbar: This check box can be used to select whether the task bar of the presenter is to be transmitted. All open windows and applications are listed below these options. Here you can control whether or not these are to be transmitted. A click on the corresponding "+" lists the individual windows of the application. 51
Client module FSB - Screen If the presenter has multiple monitors, this function can be used to select the monitor to be transmitted. 52
Client module FSB - Chat Under "Chat", you have the following options: Text field: Recipients: This window shows all the sent chat messages including the time stamp and the sender. Choose whether your chat message(s) should be sent to all the participants. It is also possible to send it explicitly to one participant. New added participants only see the chat messages from the time that they have joined. Additional Information: The master has the option of withdrawing any "write permissions" for the Chat at any time. In this case, you can only see what was written, but cannot send any messages yourself. 53
Client module FSB - Fileboard Under "Fileboard" you have the following options: Available Files: Client: File name(s) of the uploads Name of the user that supplied the file. Status: Shows whether the file is currently being uploaded or already available for download. Size: Upload: Download: Cancel: Delete: Size of the uploaded file Select a file that you want to provide to the participants. Alternatively, you can also drag & drop the desired file into the fileboard. Please note that all uploaded files are visible to all participants (even if they join the session later). Click on a file and download it via the "Download" button. With this button, you can cancel an upload. Delete an uploaded file that is no longer needed. Additional Information: The master can withdraw your "Upload rights" at any time. In that case, you will only have the option of downloading already uploaded content. 54
Client module FSB - Video / My Video Would you like to share more than just the desktop with your session clients? Using the "My Video" function, when using a webcam, it is possible to transmit your video (if the master has released the function for you). Under some circumstances, this may not be enough to transmit your video in high quality. If this is the case, please change the quality of the video. 55
Client module FSB - Audio Using this function, you can send or receive audio signals via VoIP (provided the master has released the function for you). This bandwidth may not be sufficient for transmitting an error-free signal under some circumstances. Furthermore, FastViewer recommends the use of a headset, since the use of other communication tools could lead to back coupling and thus make it difficult to communicate. 56
Client module FSB - Log messages All the functions performed during a session can be seen in chronological order in the Log messages. In addition, each new message is displayed for 3 seconds. You have the option to save the Log messages when the session ends. There is a corresponding button in the End dialog. 57
Client module FSB - Information To obtain a technical overview of the session, click on "Information". 58
Client module FSB - Telephone conference On the "Telephone conference" tab you will find the access numbers and the six-digit PIN code for the phone conference. The six-digit PIN code is derived from your session ID plus a leading zero. After you have dialed the appropriate access number, you are prompted to press "digit 1" on your keypad, after which you only need to specify the PIN code in order to enter to the conference room. FastViewer Dial-in Numbers Country Phone number Rate Germany Austria Switzerland Dial-in via normal land line number 59
FastViewer Web Client Participants reach the FastViewer WebClient by entering in their web browsers. However, please note that this can ONLY be used as a viewer, i.e., the WebClient cannot be used to present a participant's desktop. After the input, the following page opens: In order to set up a connection, the participant must enter the session ID (as well as the password chosen by the master for a conference, if defined), specify a user name under "Your name" and click on the green arrow to connect. 60
The connection is then established, and the participant can view the screen of the master. Please note that the FastViewer WebClient can only be used to attend presentations and conferences and view the screen of the master. WebClient users cannot share their own screens or provide support on the other side. Among other things, when using a support session (Secure Advisor) via the FastViewer WebClient, it is possible to participate in a session as an observer or spectator. Thus, you can invite several participants to a 1:1 session. 61
Parameters In order to use your master module even more specifically, you can use parameters. To set a startup parameter, proceed as follows: Create a shortcut to "FastMaster.exe". Using the right mouse button, open the properties of the shortcut and add the desired parameters after "FastMaster.exe". Example: FastMaster.exe /record:recording If you use spaces in the path, you must enclose the folder in quotes. Example: FastMaster.exe /record:"record 1" Possible Parameters /info: "Your text message" After the end of the session, the specified text is entered in the column "Info/Start" in the online log /infoend:"your text message" After the end of the session, the specified text is entered in the column "Info/End" in the online log /record Starts recording automatically when a session starts. After the session ends, there is an automatic prompt for a location for the recording. /record: "C:\recordings\recording 1" Starts recording automatically when a session starts. When the session ends, the recording is automatically saved at the specified location. (In this case, under "C:\recordings\recording 1" 62
/playback:"filename" Starts playing the recording with the specified file name. /monitor:n Chooses a monitor that is to be transferred after the session starts (if multiple monitors are being used). Where "n" stands for the monitor ID. /transport:http Specify the port via which FastViewer communicates by default. Here you can choose between http, https and tcp. /lang:0x0407 Define the language of the FastViewer interface. It is selected automatically if this parameter is not used. The following languages are supported: 0x0407 German 0x0410 Italian 0x0409 English 0x0411 Japanese 0x040C French 0x0816 Portuguese 0x0416 Brazil 0x0418 Romania 0x0004 Chinese (simplified) 0x0419 Russian 0x0813 Dutch 0x040A Spanish 0x0408 Greek 0x041F Turkish /proxyconfig:ie Select the browser from which the proxy settings are to be read (regardless of the default browser). (IE for Internet Explorer / FF for Firefox) /sessionid:session number Starts the client module under the specified session ID. /sessionpassword:password Starts the client module with the supplied password. Only in conjunction with the /sessionid. /sessionclientname:user name Starts the client module with the given user name. /reautoconnect:guid Allows direct connection to a specific Remote Client /reautoconnect: {GUID} (alternative hostname). The GUID can be output in the remote console by right-clicking on the relevant client. /reconnect:fvw This parameter defines the connection type. If it is not quoted, the standard connection type as defined in the portal is used. This parameter is exclusivly operational in association with the paramenter reautoconnect. Instead of fvw the following values can be used: rdp, presentation, conference, support 63
Secure Advisor (Remote Access) Brief Description The ideal solution for professional support, for continuous maintenance of individual PCs or servers as well as for fast and efficient assistance. Take control of your IT infrastructure and/or server environment. From simple PCs to complex corporate networks - worldwide. Once the FastViewer Secure Advisor is installed on your computer, it is available at all times. From the User Manager, you can assign access rights to the administrators of the respective networks. The master can be started independently of the workplace. With the FastViewer Secure Advisor, you can remotely take over any number of computers (regardless of location) at will without entering a session ID - with a simple double-click. With Secure Advisor, a user can set up a connection over the Internet to a predefined computer any number of times. This requires a one-time installation of a service on the client PC. The advantages: - There is no need to enter a session ID - i.e., even unmanned PCs can be accessed at any time - Depending on the number of licenses purchased, any number of remote clients can be remotely controlled The FastViewer Secure Advisor offers triple security: 1. No inbound port required 2. Additional login + password protection of the remote console 3. Login is only possible with your personal master module 64
Installation The FastViewer Secure Advisor consists of two modules: Master module The master module "FastMaster.exe" contains your license. It is workplace-independent and can thus be used on any number of PCs. It must not be passed on to customers. Alternatively, you can save the module to a data medium (e.g., USB stick) so that you can work with it at any time from any place world-wide. Using the FastViewer customer portal, you can download your master module at any time. Remote Setup After installing the Remote Setup on the desired PC, the Remote Client is integrated in the management console of the master. Installing the Service (Remote Setup): The installation of the service on the remote PC must be performed as follows: Run the "fvwresetup.exe" file. You can directly download this file from the customer portal to the target PC (use the supplied access data for this purpose). The following parameters can be used with the setup: /name = Your Machine Name, /folder = Destination folder, If this parameter is not specified, the name of the PC is used If this parameter is not specified, the computer will appear in "New Clients" /info1="your Text The specified text is automatically entered into the corresponding "To" input field. /info 10="." The language selection is displayed. Select the desired language for the setup and click "OK". The welcome screen appears. Click "Next". 65
Select the installation folder here and confirm it with "Next". Click "Install". The service is installed and started automatically by the setup. Click "Finish" and thus close the installation. 66
Configuration After the installation, you will see the icon for the FastViewer Remote Status window in your taskbar. Repeat the process on each PC to be remotely controlled. Note that a remote client license is required for each installation. This license remains in use until the service is uninstalled. Stopping the service does not automatically release the license. With a right click on the icon, you get the following choices: For example, you can stop the service by clicking on "Stop Remote Client". Now, remote access is not possible any more. The following icon is then displayed on the taskbar: A double-click on the icon will take you to the FastViewer Remote Status window: HTTP configuration If you use a proxy server with authen-tication, you can enter the relevant user data here. For example, to force the use of HTTP 1.1, you can select "HTTP/1.1" under " from the drop-down menu. In the "Default LAN Settings", you can enter the proxy server(s) with the respective port or, for example, specify that no proxy is to be used for local addresses. Under "Autoconfig URL", you can specify a path to automatically configure the settings. 67
FastProxy The FastProxy acts as a proxy in a network, combining the status information of up to 500 clients. This status information is sent via a single line to the server. Thus, up to 25 million clients can be managed per server. And the best part of the solution: The system organizes itself completely independently. Without FastProxy With FastProxy Here, a distinction is made between two types of FastProxy: "FastProxy Server": If you install a remote client as the "Fast Proxy Server", it represents the interface to the communications server. The online status, which is sent from each remote client, is sent to the "FastProxy server" and forwarded by it. "FastProxy Client": If you install a remote client as a "FastProxy Client", it will not send its online status independently to the communications server any more, but to the "FastProxy Server" existing in the same network. If the FastProxy is not available, a direct connection is set up. 68
"FastProxy Configuration": We recommend that you create 3 profiles in order to have the various FastProxy settings on hand easily at any time. Download the Setup of the remote client with the corresponding profile, according to the task area. In the FastProxyServer profile, both the FastProxy settings are selected. In the FastProxyClient profile, only the "Use FastProxy Client" setting is selected. You now have two options. First, you can selectively use a remote client as the "FastProxyServer". All the other remote clients are installed with the setup of the FastProxyClient profile and use the server as long as it is available. The second option is only recommended for larger networks. Here, with the FastProxyServer setup, you can install several remote clients that will independently organize your FastProxy functionality. For example, if a computer that is currently the FastProxyServer is shut down, then another gets activated and takes over this function. 69
Uninstallation The service can always be uninstalled in the Control Panel. Windows XP: Start - Settings - Control Panel - Software Windows 7: Start - Control Panel - Programs and Features Under "FastViewer Remote Service 3.2", click on "Uninstall". The following window appears. The service is now removed from your computer. 70
Remote Access Master module The console of the Remote was integrated in the "FastMaster.exe". However, it will only be available if you have purchased a license for FastViewer Secure Advisor. Start your master module and open the "Shortcut bar" by simply moving the mouse pointer over the sidebar icon. You will gain access to the Remote Console there. Then, in the field "User Name", enter your 10 digit "Serial Number" as well as the "Password" when you log in for the first time. After you have created your first user in the User Manager and granted him or her permission to log into the Remote Console, you can also log in with these credentials. A detailed description of the User Manager can be found in this manual from page 35 onwards. After confirming the login, a list of all the services of all connected PCs appears. 71
Remote console All newly installed remote clients appear in the "New Clients" folder by default. You can configure the folder view freely and drag and drop the remote clients into the appropriate folders. Additionally, you can create any number of users, with different folders being assigned individually to each user. It is possible to store settings for each installed Remote Client. To do this, right-click on the appropriate client and simply choose "Edit computer properties". You can then enter a comment for this client,, for example, and fill in the corresponding information fields. Furthermore, it is possible to define various settings for access via RDP. For example, you can save, in advance, a user name and password for logging in, redirect your local drives, printers, ports, as well as smartcards, and specify whether the desktop background is to be transmitted when using RDP (for detailed information on connecting via RDP, refer to page 72). 72
The following functions are available in the Remote Access window: Refresh the view in the Remote Console. You can search for hosts by individual folders or globally. Here, it is possible to search for all stored information such as "Name" or "Info1" to "Info10". The result is evaluated and displayed immediately even as the search term is being typed, if the search occurs within a folder. For the global search, the search term has to be transmitted. Enables editing of the Computer Name and the input of a comment so that the client PC can be clearly identified (in the client computer list), as well as the storage of information fields. Delete a folder or remote client. When a remote client is deleted, the client license is released. This Delete function should only be used if the uninstallation of a service from the client is no longer possible or is not required due to segregations. Create a new folder below the selected folder. User Manager and perform maintenance (see page 35). Change own password for access to the Remote Console. Filter according to online status. Automatically update all Remote Clients Automatically cancel the updating for all remote clients. 73
Setting up a connection You set up a connection by double-clicking on a remote client. Alternatively, you can also establish a connection by right-clicking and selecting "Connect" from the context menu. Connection via RDP If RDP is enabled on the Remote Client, you can directly switch to the client using the RDP protocol. A secure transmission of data occurs via the FastViewer tunnel. You can thus access your computer environment from anywhere in the world via RDP and without a VPN! To establish a connection using the RDP protocol, right-click and select "Connect with RDP". Additional Information: If RDP is enabled on the remote client, then the RDP protocol is always used by default whenever a connection is set up with a double-click. If you wish to set up the connection via the usual connection protocol of FastViewer, you must do so by right-clicking and selecting "Connect". 74
Explanation of functions As soon as you establish a connection to a remote client, a new Tab is opened in the upper area of the console with the screen transfer. In the Tab Display, you can find all the functions and features of the Remote Console of FastViewer Secure Advisor., "Open file transfer" button: This function enables you to access the file system of your counterpart and transfer files. The File Transfer feature enables files to be easily exchanged. For example, log and database files, installation files, and even entire directories can thus be transferred between the master and clients. During the transfer, you can also return to the presented desktop at any time. To stop the file transfer, click the "X" of the corresponding tab in the startup dialog. In addition to the ability to switch between the various participants and thus access their file systems, every activity is recorded in the transfer log. (Action performed, date/time of the change) 75
The following functions can be used for the file transfer: - Refreshing the view - Upload - Download - Synchronize folders (For more information, see below) - Cancelling the transfer Synchronize folders: (matching the contents of two folders) Match the status of two folders by simply clicking on this button. Files or even subfolders which only exist on the remote or local system are copied to the opposite side. If a file or folder with the identical file/folder name already exists on both sides, the older one is replaced by the newer version. It is thus possible to update and synchronize processing statuses, e.g., during a project, within seconds. Additional Information: By right-clicking on the appropriate file, you can "Rename" or "Delete" it, or change its "Attributes". ("System"/"Hidden"/"Read Only"/"Archive") These functions can also be applied to folders. To create a new folder, click the right mouse button on the parent folder (or the appropriate partition) and select "New Folder ". 76
"Remote connections": Client ID: Server Port: Map to: Port: Shows all mapped ports Name of the PC Local port IP/DNS name of the remote host Port of the remote host 77
"Active Connections": from IP: from Port: to Host: to Port: Shows all active connections Local IP address Local port IP of the remote host Port of the remote host If a connection is no longer required, it can be selected under "Remote Mappings" and cleared by clicking on "Disconnect". Additional Information: While the Port mapper is being used, you can simultaneously return to the presented desktop or access another function that has been started via the tab system in the startup dialog. To close the port mapper, click on the "X" of the corresponding tab. 78
"Switch zoom mode" button: This function allows toggling between the view of the whole desktop and a section of it. "Session recording" button: Press this button to start the recording session. If you press the button again at a later time, you are prompted for a location to save the recording. Your recording will be converted to a proprietary format and saved as an exe file. (Alternatively,.fvwrec) With the "FastViewer Player", your recording is secured against falsification and tampering. not possible with RDP "Special functions" button: Under "Special tools", you have the following options: > Transmit Keyboard Scancodes: Normally, a virtual key code is transmitted for keyboard inputs. A key code can be assigned differently for different keyboard layouts. However, if the "Transmit Keyboard Scancodes" function is activated, the position of the key is transmitted instead of the virtual key code. (Here too, the keyboard mapping can vary for different keyboard layouts.) 79
> System information/remote Task Manager: The SysInfo contains important information on the system state of the PC, e.g., an overview of all system components or the available disk space. Additionally, there is an integrated remote task manager, which makes it possible to display or terminate the current processes. As soon as you have activated the function, the participant receives a request: 80
> Test connection performance This function tests the data transfer rate of the Internet connection to the FastViewer server. This enables connection problems that may occur to be quickly localized. 81
