The region is considered to be The heart of America and students are only a few hours drive or flight from cities such as Nashville, TN, Chicago, IL and New York, NY. Bellarmine has a single campus site, with almost all facilities within only a few minutes walk. A shuttle is provided for longer distances. The campus is in the Highlands neighborhood, a prestigious residential area with an active nightlife. Shops, grocery stores and restaurants are all only a ten-minute walk from the campus. Within each school, there are departments responsible for particular fields. There are four schools at Bellarmine University: The Rubel School of Business, Bellarmine College of Arts & Sciences, The Lansing School of Nursing and Health Sciences, and The Thornton School of Education. They offer undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees. Average semester work-load Bellarmine students study credit hours per semester, which is generally four to six classes. Subjects Classes may also be referred to as courses. Each course has a title and a code. The letters in the course code indicate the subject area and the first number that follows indicates the level of the course. For example, ECON 231 would indicate an intermediate level Economics course and would typically be taken in the second year. It is possible to take classes at different levels at the same time. Exchange students take mostly third year courses (300-level). Check the compatibility of courses at your home institution with the courses offered at Bellarmine by checking the Class Schedule: Accommodation costs Students live in university housing, also known as dorms. Most students are in double bedrooms grouped around shared facilities. Students are required to purchase a university meal plan for the duration of their stay. 6 International Students Our Office of International Student Services can start to help you long before you arrive on campus. Our counselors and publications will guide you through the process of preparing for your move to Kentucky and obtaining all necessary documents. Once you arrive, we will welcome you with an enjoyable and informative International Student Orientation. After you begin taking classes we will assist you with any challenge of culture or education that you encounter, including housing, employment, and health care questions. And we will honor your presence with an International Student Reception and a very active international student club. Small classes As an international student, you'll love the small classes at Bellarmine. Our average class size has just 18 students and none of your classes will have more than 40 students in them. It is part of our university s vision to build a close connection between professors and individual students and to make sure that every student leaves class with her or his questions answered. 7 Student Life With more than 70 clubs and organizations, you are bound to find something that fits your interests. The Student Activities Center offers numerous opportunities for members of the Bellarmine community to get involved. Bellarmine has a wide variety of campus organizations, including academic, special interest, social, spirit and honor societies. The Bellarmine Activities Council (BAC) coordinates a diverse calendar of programs and activities to enrich campus life utilizing student activity fees. The Student Government Association (SGA) provides a voice for all students on campus issues. Sport, Recreation & Fitness Center The Department of Campus Recreation offers a fitness facility called the SuRF (Sport, Recreation, & Fitness) Center. It is available for students, staff, and faculty use to balance the rigors of academic life and provide a healthy lifestyle. The SuRF Center consists of three indoor tennis courts, six outdoor tennis courts, ping-pong, cardiovascular machines, over 2000 pounds of free weights, weight machines, and basketball and volleyball courts. There is a lounge area with billiards, checkers, and a TV where students gather for fun and relaxation. Fitness classes, such as yoga, pilates, and SPINNING are offered at the SuRF center in addition to personal training.

8 General Information Costs Costs vary considerably according to individual requirements and tastes. Bellarmine University suggests a recommended minimum of $500 per month to cover the cost of food, books, clothing and personal expenses. Students will be enrolled in a plan for the academic year through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI), and these insurance costs will be added to the student s bill at Bellarmine. A sponsor may be used, if the sponsor attaches a signed letter stating that he/she will support the student until completion of a degree at Bellarmine University. 7.
