3 INTRODUCTION Galix Networking (Pty) Ltd is built on the assumption that the management of Information Technology (IT) for business is the same as for legal advice, accounting and any other body of knowledge. Smart business people, who are not computer hobbyists, need to find quality vendors of reliable IT products and services. They need to use these quality vendors as they use their other professional service suppliers: as trusted allies. All of the above, combined with a clear Empowerment and Skills Development strategy, is a formula for guaranteed success. Galix is such an Empowered vendor. It serves its clients with the loyalty of a business partner and the economics of an outside vendor. Specifically, Galix helps organizations by partnering with their Management at all levels and helping them manage and improve their corporate IT infrastructure. Galix believes that in order for organizations to maximize their return on investment from IT infrastructure and achieve a competitive advantage, they must address the following elements of IT management: Network Infrastructure Management In order to meet the expectations of their business units, IT departments must in crease efficiency, guarantee system availability and automate processes. Galix provides an array of IT infrastructure management products and services to help organizations to efficiently implement and manage next-generation IT solutions, while leveraging legacy computing infrastructure investment. Information Management & Security Information is the currency of the 21 st century. As the world s economies become increasingly digital, companies of all sizes are becoming aware of the fact that to truly benefit from their investment in IT, organizations need to ultimately derive business information from their IT systems. Such business information can be used to identify marketplace opportunities and facilitate better business decision-making. By offering a full compliment of Information Security products and services, Galix assists organizations to better protect their information assets, specializing in the assessment, design, implementation and on-going management of comprehensive Information Security solutions and policies. We, at Galix, understand the necessity of proficient deployment of IT solutions and make sure that our clients have what they need to run their businesses with maximum efficiency and reliability. 3
4 COMPANY MISSION & HISTORY Galix Technologies (the original company) was founded in 1995 and initially established a presence in the IT industry by offering reliable software development, computer support and integration services to businesses. In early 1996, realizing that the potential for electronic business (e-business) will be appreciated only when a secure network infrastructure is in place and can be relied upon, Galix entered the network communications and Information Security markets and positioned itself as a focused company which aims to provide organizations with world-class communication and information security solutions that address specific business needs. In 2003, Galix Management recognized the need for Black Empowerment and Skills Development and started a number of BEE programs and partnerships, leading to the complete company restructure in 2004, resulting in Galix Networking (Pty) Ltd now being a full BEE company! Ever since, Galix has been designing, implementing and managing on an ongoing basis, the communications and information security infrastructures of a wide variety of organizations. At present Galix has a staff compliment of more than 40 people. The majority of the personnel are technically orientated, with a small complement of administrative staff. SERVICE PROFILE When developing our Value Added Services profile, our goal was to present our customers with a modularised solution allowing them to obtain a better return on their IT investment and help them utilize their IT infrastructure as a competitive advantage in their marketplace. Network Management & Administration: Incorporates the ongoing management and administration of complex Local & Wide Area (LAN & WAN) Networks. Also includes design and installation of Wireless Networks, WAN assessment including architecture design and recommendations (Diginet, ADSL, ISDN, MPLS, 3G etc.) Network Assessment & Design: Network performance assessment including infrastructure design, TCP/IP, OS design and recommendations for improvements Server & Desktop Support: Includes hardware and software support services for Intel based platforms Helpdesk & 24/7 Standby Services: Providing comprehensive services for both infrastructure and Managed Security Services clients Storage, Data Protection & User Management: This encompasses services such as Design and integration of storage infrastructure, Storage Area Networks, Continuous Data Protection, Data Management, Replication, Backup, Recovery and Archiving solutions used to protect system s data.. User management ranges from comprehensive on-site end-user assistance to ongoing management of sophisticated Call Centre installations. Design and Integration of Messaging Solutions: Services ranging from design of comprehensive messaging infrastructure to deployment and integration of fault-tolerant messaging solutions, Anti-Spam, compliance and archiving Software and Patch Management: Includes services such as mass software deployment, software asset and license management, automated patch management for Servers, and Desktops Remote Monitoring & Diagnostics: These incorporate services such as SNMP Management, remote configuration, administration and fault diagnosis of host and communications equipment. Server Virtualization, Consolidation and Optimization: Design and maintenance of Server Virtual Machine (VM) and Terminal Server systems and solutions Project Management: Ongoing implementation and management of IT Projects based on best practices Data, Fiber and Telephone Cabling System Maintenance: Supplying high-quality and cost-effective cabling system maintenance, with services ranging from simple Network and Telephone cabling to comprehensive fiber solutions Access Control Systems: Design and implementation of Access Control systems including strong authentication such as Smart Card and Biometrics. Network Server Room: Installation and maintenance of Network Server rooms, including Anti-Fire, Air-Conditioning and Power protection. Unified Communications: Integrating real-time communications with non real-time communications into a single converged infrastructure.. Portal & Collaboration Solutions: Deploy integrated portal and collaboration solutions using technology such as SharePoint and Exchange. 5

Risk Management Provides businesses of any size with remote and on-site management of IT security infrastructure, irrespective of the underlying operating platforms or business applications in use Security Assessment and Penetration Testing Security Assessment based on ISO27001 / ISO17799, including various levels of Network penetration and vulnerability testing, Network and Physical Security analysis, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, etc. It also includes a report indicating possible security exposures and recommendations for improvements PCI Assessments Assisting with PCI audits/assessments to achieve compliance with PCI-DSS v2 Security Standards. WORLD-CLASS TECHNICAL SUPPORT Galix has invested heavily in computer support services, recruiting trained Service Engineers for its central Service Desk. In addition to this, our Service Engineers are available for on-site visits, ensuring Galix customers the best possible coverage. Presently, Galix offices are located in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town providing sales, post-sales and educational assistance to customers. In addition to these offices, Galix maintains close relationships with partner companies in Port Elizabeth, East London and Richard s Bay. These partner companies provide our customers with high quality products and professional computer consulting, integration and support services. DIRECT COMMUNICATION CHANNELS Galix believes that the best way to fully understand a customer s needs is through face-to-face communication. With this in mind, we have developed a customer service strategy that maximizes the amount of time Galix representatives spend with clients. This strategy distinguishes Galix from competing IT companies that rely primarily on telephone conversations and short-lived visits to develop customer relationships. We achieve this via different levels of consultation, regular progress and update meetings with Customer management and technical staff. User surveys and other methods of gaining feedback, complement the relationship-building techniques and hands-on project management. SKILLS DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY We, at Galix, believe that skills development is an essential part of our future growth strategy and we believe in empowering people. Galix Management has invested heavily in various support services skills, ranging from Helpdesk Communications, Sales & Marketing, Finance & Management, as well as Technical. Galix has been providing a number of specialized in-house and external training since 1997 and in 1999 started developing an Introduction to Information Security training course manual. In addition to this, our Skills Development Strategy is in accordance with the requirements set out by ISETT SETA. SKILL SUMMARY In Galix, we recognize the importance of education. That is why we have designed a comprehensive in-house training program providing our personnel with opportunities to enhance their working knowledge of existing and new technologies.
