1 DENTAL ASSISTANT This program prepares individuals to provide patient care, take dental radiographs (x-ray), prepare patients and equipment for dental procedures, as well as discharge office administrative functions under the supervision of dental hygienists. This includes instruction in dental record-keeping, general office duties, reception and patient intake, scheduling, equipment maintenance and sterilization, dental radiography, pre and postoperative patient care and instruction, chair-side assisting, taking tooth and mouth impressions, and supervised practice. 3 DENTAL HYGIENE This program prepares individuals to clean teeth and apply preventive materials; provide oral health education and treatment counseling to patients; identify oral pathologies and injuries; and manage dental hygiene practices. This includes instruction in dental anatomy, microbiology and pathology; dental hygiene theory and techniques; cleaning equipment operation and maintenance; dental materials; radiology; patient education and counseling; office management; supervised clinical training; and professional standards.
