The ambient air enters via the louvered openings in the enclosure door and is then tested for CO 2 content using a measuring probe. 6 ROAD TUNNEL REFERENCES Plabutsch Tunnel project Safe and consistent with Rittal Europe s largest twin-tube road tunnel with full cross-ventilation, the Plabutsch Tunnel, uses Rittal tunnel technology. This 10 km long structure, which leads through the centre of Graz on the A9 in Austria, links South-East Europe to Central Europe. Safety was the primary concern when constructing the tunnel. There are emergency telephone niches spaced approximately 200 m apart throughout the entire length of the tunnel. This translates into a total of 44 telephones installed over the tunnel s full length of almost 10 km. View of the tunnel with light shaft illumination. 7 ROAD TUNNEL REFERENCES The tunnel extinguisher systems for added safety are built into nine storage niches. The hose reel niches and hydrant niches are required for immediate use in the event of a fire, in conjunction with the smoke extractor systems. The particular advantage of Rittal s solutions is the wide door opening with snap-fastening function. Rittal has also installed 330 inspection niches for cleaning the drainage channels. The future-oriented complete power distribution system, Maxi-PLS, was installed in the Plabutsch Tunnel inside TS 8 enclosures from Rittal. 11 COMLAB REFERENCE Uninterrupted reception Make calls without interference In today s mobile world, it is almost taken for granted that we are contactable at all times. However, interference-free reception inside tunnels is not yet possible. The Swiss railway companies are currently making major efforts to enable uninterrupted reception inside tunnels for their passengers and TS 8 Top enclosure systems from Rittal are major contributors to this endeavour. Comlab and Rittal and the connection is made If you have ever tried to make a call inside a railway tunnel and found that the connection works, chances are that technology from the Swiss firm Comlab is involved. Comlab project plans, develops, tests, manufactures and assembles transmitter and amplifier systems to ensure reception for the various telecommunications networks, even inside tunnels. In a project by the national Swiss railway SBB, special TS 8 enclosures from Rittal protect the Comlab amplifier systems and transmitters against the tough ambient conditions prevailing in railway tunnels. Each individual device is monitored from the company headquarters in Ittigen to ensure proper functioning. In case of malfunctions, there is a direct link to the tunnel. Low-Daten Rittal meets our high technical demands. We have known Rittal for a long time. During the course of an SBB tender, we invited bids from four enclosure suppliers. Rittal met our high technical requirements, and was also commercially convincing. With this in mind, Rittal has developed an outstanding solution for the emergency telephone and fire extinguisher housing. Mindful of the high stresses inside the tunnel caused by pressure, corrosion, temperature, exhaust fumes and humidity, we have devised special enclosures whose compact design meets every conceivable requirement. They are easily installed in the various niches of the tunnel wall, where there may be considerable structural variations. An intelligent panelling solution after the enclosure has been installed compensates perfectly for any such variations and ensures a uniform appearance. Every compact emergency telephone niche is custom-produced exclusively by us, and is tailored precisely to your specific requirements. Corrosion protection to automotive standards Enclosure and case systems from Rittal are temperature-resistant from 30 C to +70 C. Due to the use of an innovative nanoceramic pretreatment, electrophoretic dipcoat priming developed for the automotive industry and powder coating, even standard versions achieve a high corrosion protection. Adapted to the ambient conditions the use of more resistant materials, zinc phosphating and aluminium coating ensures exceptional longevity and resistance; for outdoor use powder coatings with a significantly higher UV resistance are also available. At our accredited in-house quality laboratory, our products are tested to specific requirements such as suction and pressure resistance or a particular protection category, using an extensive battery of tests.
