2 Overview of Project Activity 1. Performed internet research to understand the basics of a public school security system 2. Met with East Penn School District Facilities Manager (Robert Ritter) and toured buildings to benchmark what our neighboring schools have for their security systems 3. Reviewed 7-Gen s budget for a security system with Chris Sten 4. Secured memberships and 7-Gen qualification for grant funding at TechSoup and GrantStation GrantStation offers nonprofit organizations the opportunity to identify potential funding sources for their programs or projects as well as resources to mentor these organizations through the grantseeking process. 5. Worked with Jeff Luther, proprietor of Hi-Tech Security Alarms, to develop 7-Gen s system specification and budget System being proposed is identical for both school buildings..

4 Magnetic Locks Door Access Control Features The 5 doors that are used for access will be locked with magnetic c locks: A. Doors will automatically unlock when approached from the inside B. A manual unlock palm button will be located next to every door should s the automatic unlock system fail to operate C. Magnetic locks will be tied to the fire alarm system and unlock automatically when a fire alarm is triggered D. All 8 exterior doors will be monitored for propping. Should a door d be propped open an alarm will sound above that door Card Readers Same 5 doors are equipped with card readers to unlock doors from outside: A. System quoted comes with 100 cards, can easily add more B. Fully programmable access control to serialized cards a teacher s s card will open certain doors between certain hours ALC parents will have cards that only work when dropping off or picking up children C. System records who accessed which doors when D. Lost cards can be disabled

5 Video Intercom Entry Request Features The main entrance and rear playground doors will be equipped with h a video intercom system: A. Person requesting entry presses call button on door station to initiate i a conversation with the receptionist. (from main or playground doors) B. Receptionist answers request at desktop master station. Receptionist can see and speak with visitor. C. Receptionist can unlock door to allow visitor to enter. A second Desktop Master Station will be located in an administrator's office Desktop Master Station Door Station

6 Video Monitoring & Recording Features Interior & Exterior Cameras 6 Exterior and 4 Interior IP/Megapixel Dome cameras: A. An 8TB NVR will record all camera activity; all 20 cameras from both schools. B. A PC with internet access within the receptionist s s office would be set up to see all camera displays. C. Anyone with internet access and the appropriate login information n will be able to see the video camera images from both school buildings. D. Recorded video can be looked at, exported, archived, etc.

8 Additional System Features A. After the receptionist allows a visitor to enter the lobby the visitor v is still locked out of the school until the receptionist "buzzes" them through the 2nd 2 set of magnetically locked doors. We should establish policy for the receptionist to verify identity ty and issue a visitor s s badge prior to granting access. B. The receptionist will have a time-limited door prop alarm disable switch for the two front doors for times when traffic is keeping the doors open.. We should consider this same feature for the rear doors. C. A stand-alone alone exterior camera will cover the rear door. Just inside the rear door a small video display will show what this camera sees. This will allow someone inside to see who is at the back door before opening it. D. Both the video system and door access control system have backup batteries that will allow them to operate during a power failure.

9 What Are We Giving Up Without making any other changes, if we proceed with the (basic) system described in this proposal, we will be giving up the following security details: A. Secure Interior Classroom Doors B. Some Interior Hallway Video Coverage C. Motion Detectors Integrated Burglary System D. Monitoring Service E. Panic Button and Automated Dialer With enough funding (large grants) we wouldn't have to give up these details.
