In 2014, GLHS graduates were awarded mre than $15 millin in schlarship mney, with lcal schlarship funds ttaling $42,000. Students have participated in research in cnjunctin with NASA (NITARP,) presented t the American Astrnmical Sciety, wn multiple awards at the Ohi Junir Science and Humanities Sympsium and the Clumbus Technical Cuncil, traveled t China t cllabrate with students internatinally, and qualified fr an internatinal remte-perated vehicle cmpetitin. Middle schl students are nw able t elect t take autmatin and rbtics. This class is part f the Gateway t Engineering prgram thrugh Prject Lead the Way. Several middle schls have STEM clubs, meeting nce per week after schl, cmpleting prjects and prgramming rbts t run thrugh varius challenges. Three Middle Schl East students participated in cmpetitins bth natinally and internatinally ver the past year in places like Washingtn, D.C. and Spain. Their design fr small hmes that is built t stand up t hurricanes and flds (specifically fr the impverished ppulatin in Haiti) earned them tp awards, including secnd in the wrld in the cmpetitin in Spain. Gshen Lane Elementary was named a High Prgress Schl f Hnr based n their lcal reprt card results by the Ohi Department f Educatin. 37 Ohi schls received this designatin.

Our visual and perfrming arts prgrams are high-achieving and well knwn thrughut the cmmunity: Visual arts Art students are invited t participate in juried and curated invitatinal art shws acrss Franklin Cunty each year. Tw f the three public art pieces at Creekside Park in Gahanna have been designed by Gahanna art students and teachers. Theater GLHS theatre students have been twice nminated and selected t perfrm at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, in Edinburgh, Sctland as part f the American High Schl Theatre Festival. Many GLHS theatre students are prud members the Educatinal Theatre Assciatin, Internatinal Thespian Sciety, trupe #1334. Students frm the theatre prgram use their talents t assist prgrams thrughut the schl district by writing, prducing and perfrming Theatre fr Yung Audiences scripts and turing them t elementary schls, cllabrating with health classes t create a Date Rape One Act entitled, When N Means N, and develping public service annuncements fr schl-related issues/cncerns. At least ne Ryal Manr student has been selected fr 11 straight years t have their written wrk perfrmed by the Clumbus Children s Theatre. Each elementary schl presents a musical perfrmance based n a children s bk each year. Musicals are an excellent example f studentled learning as students are invlved in every aspect f the prductin frm the very beginning. Chir GLHS ffers seven different chirs fr students t participate in; mre than 400 students participate in this prgram. All chirs cnsistently receive Superir ratings at OMEA state-level adjudicated cmpetitin. The GLHS Chrale has captured Grand Champin and Best Vcal awards at several reginal cmpetitins in its histry. Instrumental music The Gahanna Lincln High Schl Instrumental Music Department includes tw jazz bands, marching band, and pep band. An Hnrs Harmny and Thery class is als ffered annually. Over 750 students are enrlled in the district s bands In , that will include ver 280 at GLHS.

In 2014, five members f the Gahanna Bands were selected fr OMEA s all-state hnr band and hnrs jazz ensemble. A bass player in the GMSE rchestra was accepted as a member f the Clumbus Symphny Yuth Orchestra Members f the Gahanna Bands engage in creative endeavrs beynd the regular schl day. In the past three years, individual members f the band have arranged music fr marching shws, written percussin cadences, and cmpsed a new piece f music fr the Gld Band t perfrm n at a cncert. The bands frequently have the pprtunity t wrk with internatinally-knwn musicians. Recently, this has included Ryan Nwlin (U.S. Marine Band Arranger and Asst. Cnductr,) Dr. Fred Nyline (Luther Cllege,) Dr. Carl Hayward (Bwling Green State University,) Dr. Russ Mikkelsn (The Ohi State University,) Dr. Sctt Jnes (The Ohi State University,) and James Swearingen (internatinally-recgnized cmpser, Capital University), amng thers. Bands and ensembles cme t Gahanna t perfrm fr the students. GMSS started a First Leg League team that is being spnsred by the Wmen in Engineering (WiE) prgram at The Ohi State University. Students n the GMSS We the Peple team placed furth in the 2014 natinal cmpetitin, led by teacher Mr. Michael Brwning. Students n the GMSE Pwer f the Pen teams wn bth their lcal and reginal cmpetitins, and qualified t send individuals t the state rund. Chapelfield, Jeffersn and High Pint elementaries are Leader in Me schls and have acquired a grant frm the I am a Leader Fundatin t prvide this prgramming. High Pint hsts nearly 200 summer campers annually fr Camp Inventin. A Blacklick Elementary secnd grader was named the first-ever winner f the Making Waves prgram by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber f Cmmerce/Cnventin and Visitrs Bureau. She held a bake sale and raised mre than $500 t help prtect endangered sea turtles in Suth Carlina.

Cuntless schl imprvements and dnatins have been made pssible by high schl bster rganizatins like P.I.T., schl PTA/PTOs and the Gahnna-Jeffersn Educatin Fundatin (GJEF.) Events crdinated with cmmunity partners include: Seven elementary walkathns, middle schl fitness fundraisers/field days, Gahannathn high schl dance marathn, fd and dnatin drives fr Gahanna Residents in Need (GRIN,) and the GJEF annual gala. - One middle schl alne (MSS) cntributed $1810 in dnatins and nearly 500 fd items t GRIN last winter, as well as $2300 t the Leukemia and Lymphma Sciety thrugh Pennies fr Patients. - Ryal Manr has dnated mre than $5000 t GRIN thrugh an annual fundraiser ( Empty Bwls. ) The GJEF annual gala has raised mre than $1 millin that has been distributed thrughut the district in the frm f classrm/teacher grants. GLHS Chrale and Orchestra prduce an annual cllabrative special perfrmance that dnates 100 percent f the prceeds t GRIN. GLHS Chrale partners with the Gahanna Senir Center t prvide entertainment t residents several times each year. The GLHS theatre department rganizes and prduces a frequent perfrming arts alumni shwcase. The GLHS bands are active in cmmunity events. Besides perfrming at schl cncerts and athletic events, bands and ensembles perfrm at three Memrial Day services, the Independence Day Parade, the Veteran s Day Observance, the Hliday Lights Parade, business grand penings, the Herb Day Celebratin, and Creekside arts events. The student will require an individualized behavir plan t fcus n shaping behavirs in rder t make prgress academically, scially and behavirally. Structured Supprt Services Specialized prgramming intended t meet the needs f students with autism r students with characteristics similar t individuals with autism. Visual and physical structures are utilized t supprt the students academically, scially, behavirally and with expressive, receptive and written cmmunicatin. Individualized academic supprt is prvided t ensure prgress n grade level cre cntent standards in a small grup setting r within the general educatin envirnment. Fundamental Supprt Services Crss-categrical prgramming intended t meet the needs f students with cgnitive disabilities, severe-cmmunicatin disabilities,

All center-based preschl prgrams are licensed by the State f Ohi and accredited by the Natinal Assciatin fr the Educatin f Yung Children. The district has implemented Psitive Behaviral Interventin and Supprts (PBIS) in all f ur buildings. PBIS is a schl-wide systemic apprach t embed evidenced-based practices and data-driven decisin making t imprve schl climate and culture in rder t achieve imprved academic and scial utcmes, and increase learning fr all students. PBIS encmpasses a range f systemic and individualized psitive strategies t reinfrce desired behavirs, diminish ccurrence f challenging behavirs and teach apprpriate behavirs t students. Several middle schls have frmed buddy clubs t pair up and welcme new special educatin students t their schl prgrams. These student grups require an applicatin and interview prcess. Frm the suggestin f parents and with the assistance f the Gahanna Jeffersn Educatin Fundatin, the Middle Schl East library added a sectin fr ur new Extended Supprt Services classrm.
