1 Residency Preceptor Biographies *indicates member of the Residency Advisory Council University of Georgia College of Pharmacy Kalen B. Manasco, Pharm.D., BCPS, AE-C (Residency Program Director, General Pediatrics)* Dr. Kalen Manasco is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. She obtained a B.S. degree in microbiology from the University of Georgia in 1993 and a Pharm.D. degree from University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in Following graduation, she completed a pharmacy practice residency at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida and a pediatric specialty residency at Medical University of South Carolina. Prior to joining the faculty in January 2007, she served as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical and Administrative Sciences at Mercer University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Dr. Manasco maintains an active practice site in general pediatrics at the Children s Hospital of Georgia where she precepts students and residents. Dr. Manasco is an active member of PPAG, ACCP, ASHP, AACP, Georgia Pharmacists Association (GPhA), and Georgia Society of Health System Pharmacists (GSHP). She currently serves as Chair of the Research Committee for PPAG and Region 11 President for the Georgia Pharmacists Association. She also serves on the planning committee for ACCP s first board review course for the new board certification examination in pediatric pharmacy. She is a member of the Student and Resident Affairs Committee of GSHP and the membership committee for GPhA. She was the Asthma Education Coordinator for Camp Breathe Easy, a camp for children with asthma from and continues to serve on the planning committee for camp. She served as District-Director for the CSRA region of GSHP from In 2009, she was named Distinguished Young Pharmacist for the Georgia Pharmacy Association. Her research interests include cystic fibrosis, pediatric infectious disease, and increasing education and awareness among pharmacists and pharmacy students regarding the appropriate use of medications in pediatric patients.
2 Dianne Williams May, Pharm.D., BCPS (Director for Pharmacy Practice Experiences)* Dianne May, Pharm.D. is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy and Campus Director for Pharmacy Practice Experiences in the Division of Experience Programs at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. She offers an advanced pharmacy practice experience (APPE) in Drug Information with an emphasis on drug policy management. She coordinates the activities related to the resident's journal club and the Adverse Drug Reaction Conference where students and residents present to physicians in the Department of Medicine. She also offers a writing elective that is open to both students and residents and precepts an introductory patient care experience (IPPE) for 3 rd year pharmacy students in the Occupational Health Wellness program and nursing home that are part of the Georgia Health Sciences Health System.. Dr. May received both her BS and Pharm.D. degree from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. Prior to her move to academia, Dr. May served in various roles at GSHU including Drug Information Specialist, Medicine ICU Clinical Specialist and Drug Information and Formulary Coordinator. As part of the leadership team, her primary responsibilities included medication use policy, running the day-to-day operations of the Drug Information Center, coordinating P&T Committee and Anti-Infective Subcommittee activities, maintaining the Pharmacy s online formulary and website and serving as editor of the Drug Information Newsletter. For almost 18 years she served as preceptor for the Pharmacy Practice Residents Drug Information experience as well as Pharm.D. students on their Drug Information advanced practice experience and lectured on Drug Information for the University of Georgia. She has been Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy since 1999 and has served as a Board member and District Director for the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists (GSHP). She is also an active member of the following committees: GSHP Education Committee, University Hospital Consortium (UHC) Research and Education Committee, ASHP, AACP, ACCP, GPhA, and APhA. Her research interests include: Drug Information, Medical Writing, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, and Drug Policy Management. Georgia Regents Medical Center Christy M. Norman, M.S., Pharm.D., BCPS (Administrative Director of Pharmacy, Director of Pharmacy Residency Programs)* Christy Norman became the Administrative Director of Pharmacy for Georgia Regents Medical Center in February 2014 after previously serving as Pharmacy Manager for Clinical Services. Christy also holds an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia, College of Pharmacy. She obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Georgia, Athens, GA and her M.S. in Health System Pharmacy Administration from The Ohio State University. She completed a 24-month Specialty Practice Residency in Health-System Pharmacy Administration at The Ohio State University Medical Center. Christy was awarded the Tim Moore Award from The Ohio
3 State University, College of Pharmacy, for outstanding performance in the Masters in Health-System Pharmacy Administration program. Christy joined the Georgia Regents Health System team in July From , Christy was responsible for inpatient adult central and clinical operations, supervision of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, controlled substances management, and manufacturing and packaging. From 2010 until fall 2014, she has been responsible for the management of clinical services, serves as the coordinator for Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committees, chairs the Medication Error Prevention Committee, and coordinates the Department of Pharmacy s performance improvement initiatives. In her manager role she had been providing a Drug Information and Administration experience for pharmacy students and Drug Policy/Administration experience for PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents. She continues to serve as the preceptor for Pharmacy Administration/Pharmacy Management. Christy is an active member of the Georgia Society of Health System Pharmacists (GSHP), serving on the Education Committee. The pharmacy newsletter she and Dianne May produce for Georgia Regents Medical Center was recognized by GSHP as the outstanding health-system pharmacy newsletter in Georgia (October 2012). She is co-author of a chapter on Pharmacy Operations in the first and second editions of the textbook Pharmacy Management, Leadership, Marketing and Finance on Pharmacy Operations (covering workflow, practice activities, medication safety and technology). Christy is also an active member of ASHP, ACCP, the University Health-system Consortium (UHC) Supply Chain Committee, and the Novation Pharmacy Distribution & Analytics Advisory Group. She has been a frequent speaker at GSHP statewide educational meetings, with topics including the Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative, drug shortages, and management of alcohol withdrawal. Anita Nayar Gallay, Pharm.D. (General Pediatric Pharmacy Specialist) Anita received a B.S. in Biochemistry from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC and then her Pharm.D. from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Worcester, MA. After graduation, she completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, CT in 2012 and a PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ in After completion of residency, she joined the Georgia Regents Medical Center pharmacy team focusing on general pediatrics. Anita s scholarly interests include pediatric infectious disease, pain management, toxicology, and medication safety for pediatric patients. Her PGY1 management project to optimize the process for patient s own medications was published in the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy. She actively participates in ACCP, ASHP, and the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG).
4 Kelley Norris, Pharm.D., BCPS (Pediatric Critical Care Pharmacy Specialist, Pharmacy Critical Care Team Clinical Supervisor)* Kelley Norris is a Pediatric Critical Care Specialist and the Pharmacy Critical Care Team Supervisor. She also holds an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia (UGA), College of Pharmacy. Kelley received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Auburn University in After completing her pharmacy practice residency at the Medical College of Georgia in 2000, she joined the Georgia Regents Medical Center staff as a pediatric pharmacy specialist. She has earned and maintained the recognition of Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) since Kelley is responsible for providing pediatric pharmacy clinical services to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and for clinical practice development of pharmacists in pediatric and critical care specialties. She serves as a preceptor in the PICU for UGA pharmacy students, the PGY1 Pharmacy residency, the PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy residency and the PGY2 Critical Care residency. She completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy residency at the Children s National Medical Center in Washington, DC and a PGY2 residency in Pediatric Pharmacotherapy at Methodist Le Bonheur Children s Hospital in Memphis, TN. She then worked as a pediatric critical care clinical pharmacist for Le Bonheur for a little over a year before joining the Georgia Regents Medical Center to care for the Neonatal ICU in She received teaching certificates from both residencies and earned the recognition of Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) in She is an active member of ACCP and the Georgia Society of Health-system Pharmacists (GSHP) and was appointed as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice (without salary) at University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in Deidrea J. Parker, R.Ph. (Pediatric Oncology Pharmacist) Deidrea is a 1981 graduate of the Xavier University School of Pharmacy and a member of Kappa Epsilon Professional Pharmacy Fraternity. She has been on the staff of the MCG Pharmacy since 1994 and since 1998 has been responsible for the 5 th floor patients at the Children s Medical Center (Hematology/Oncology and Pediatric Surgery). Sonal Patel, Pharm.D. (Antimicrobial Stewardship/Infectious Disease Specialist) Sonal Patel received her B.Sc in biology at the York University in Toronto, Canada, and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She completed her PGY1 residency at the Detroit Medical Center and her PGY2 in infectious diseases at the Henry Ford Hospital.
