13 Someone else is looking after your Data Your data is not In-house but off-premise 3 rd party provider manages everything You are abrogating responsibility for your data to 3 rd party No 3 rd party business is as interested in looking after your data as much as you are Loss of control of your data: If you store on the cloud, it has left your control and you will never get that control back.

14 Cyberattacks Any time you store data on the internet, you are at risk for a cyber attack Most cloud providers provide stringent security measures but attacks are also becoming more sophisticated. Passwords and secret answers are the soft underbelly of your security.

15 Insider Threats Security breaches from inside are on the rise Once an employee gains or gives access to others to your cloud data, information stored there is at risk. Everything from customer data to confidential information can be potentially be viewed.

16 Government Intrusion With recent NSA leaks and government surveillance programs, competitors are not the only ones wanting to take a peek at your data Loss of confidentiality of data Cloud Service Providers have privacy statements that state they will stay out of your data Law enforcement in the US need search warrants to search on premise electronic data but cloud storage is new and regulations are poorly defined

18 Lack of Standardization What makes the cloud Safe? There are not clear cut guidelines underlying cloud providers Not all cloud providers are built the same Clouds standards are still evolving

19 Lack of Support/Control Imagine not being able to access your cloud data before a big meeting or worst being in the middle of a cyber attack where you cannot access your data Imagine not being able to process payroll because your data is inaccessible. When something goes wrong, who do you call and speak to?

20 There s always a Risk The biggest risk of cloud computing is that you never know what is ahead Given the these current and future dangers, to the benefits of cloud computing outweigh the risks? The key is knowing your cloud providers Using cloud solutions is like kissing someone you don t know

21 Best Practices Summary Do not store anything in cloud you cannot afford to lose and keep local backups Develop Good policies around strong passwords; how they are created, protected and changed regularly. Audit your accounts regularly and revoke accounts no longer used (e.g., Ex Employees)

Not everyone needs access to the cloud Do not store personal, financial and health related information on cloud Many Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) have guidelines against storing copy written or legally questionable material that could be searched without your consent. Bottom Line Be careful!
