3 The Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA) is an autonomous, non-for-profit, non-partisan, private sector institution and membership based organization. ECCSA was established with the aim of catapulting trade and investment, inter alia, in a bid to creating a vibrant private sector and business friendly environment, working hand in glove with the government, business community, development partners and other stakeholders in 1947 with chartered status under General Notice No.90/47, latter restructured in 1978 by proclamation No.148/ 1970 and attained its current structure in 2003 by proclamation No. 341/1995. ECCSA has a nationwide outreach having 18 member chambers and sectoral associations. Vision To be internationally competitive and exemplary Chamber in Africa. Mission Creating vibrant private sector in the country through advocacy, trade and investment promotion and capacity building Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations Address: P.O.Box: 517 Tele: , Fax: ethchamb@ethionet.et Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
4 ECCSA s Business Tips Some peculiar reasons to do business and invest in Ethiopia: Political and social stability Macro-economic stability Excellent climate and fertile soil Inexpensive and abundant labor force Low cost of doing business Zero tolerance policy towards corruption Lowest crime rate in Africa Attractive investment incentive package Transparent investment law Huge market opportunities, duty and quota free market access to EU, USA and other countries Investment priority areas in Ethiopia: Agriculture and agro-processing Leather and textile Livestock Manufacturing, mining and energy Tourism Construction and real estate ICT COME & INVEST IN ETHIOPIA
5 Preferential Access Ethiopia has a large population and thus potentially one of the largest domestic markets in Africa. By virtue of its membership of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), embracing 19 countries with a population of over 400 million, Ethiopia also enjoys preferential market access to these countries. Ethiopia qualifies for preferential access to European Union market under the EU s Everything-But-Arms (EBA) initiative and to USA markets under the African Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA). Accordingly, most Ethiopian products can enter into these markets quota and duty free. Furthermore, a broad range of manufactured goods from Ethiopia are entitled to preferential access under the Generalized System of Preference (GSP) of different countries like China and India. Investment Protection & Guarantee The Government guarantees constitutional protection from expropriation; Ethiopia is a signatory to the main international investment related institutions, such as the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA); It is also a signatory to the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes Between States and Nationals of Other States; A professional, one-stop-shop for foreign investment is offered through the Ethiopian Investment Agency (EIA).
