2 About This Guide California State University, San Bernardino offers a wide range of services to individuals with disabilities. This accessibility guide is designed to help individuals with disabilities navigate safely throughout the CSUSB campus. In it, you will find valuable information, including locations of accessible parking, exterior paths of travel and accessible entrances to building facilities, along with policies, emergency evacuation procedures, areas of rescue and descriptions of a wide range of facilities and services available to students, faculty, staff and visitors with disabilities. Information contained in this guide is available in print and online at AccessibilityGuide.pdf. Throughout this guide you will find references to various offices and departments on campus that may be able to provide additional information. We welcome and encourage you to contact any of these offices directly with any questions or concerns you may have regarding policies or accessibility issues. Although we have made every effort to include the most up-to-date policies and information, individual policies, office hours and services may change from time to time. 8 Emergency Code Blue Phones Dedicated emergency phones can be found at various outdoor locations throughout campus. These phones are push-button operated and are topped by distinctive blue lights for easy identification. They provide a direct connection to University Police and should be used to report suspicious activity, crimes in progress or any emergency situation. A dispatcher will identify the location of the phone being used (even if nothing is said by the user) and will dispatch police personnel as necessary. Emergency phones are also located in all campus elevators. Dialing on any campus phone will also connect the user directly to University Police. 10 Location: University Hall 183 Phone: (909) Fax: (909) Website: TDD: (909) Services to Students with Disabilities Address: Mission Statement The mission of the office of Services to Students with Disabilities (SSD) is to increase retention for students with disabilities by ensuring equitable treatment and equal access to all academic programs and facilities at CSUSB. The SSD office acts as a catalyst and agent for compliance with federal and state laws that mandate equal opportunity and access for persons with disabilities. As a component of educational equity, the SSD office provides support services that assist students with disabilities in the attainment of their academic and personal potential. The SSD office fulfills its mission by providing the necessary academic support services instrumental for the achievement of chosen academic goals. Strategies include, but are not limited to: Providing support services for students who have disabilities; Advocating with and for individuals with disabilities on campus and in the community; Working for social changes; Promoting and coordinating systematic institutional initiatives for ensuring complete university programmatic and environmental access to individuals with disabilities; Distributing accurate information about disabilities; and serving as a resource for those who study the sociological, psychological and environmental aspects of the culture of people with disabilities. In order to ensure appropriate accommodations, needs are assessed on an individual basis. To receive services there must be appropriate and current documentation to support the need for services, unless this determination of need can be made by qualified SSD staff members. 11 Getting to Campus From Interstate 215 at University Parkway Exit the freeway and travel one mile north/northeast to the end of University Parkway, which becomes the main entrance to CSUSB (at Northpark Blvd). 12 need not display a parking permit, but are restricted to a 5-minute time limit, unless otherwise noted. A passenger loading/drop-off zone is located at the front of campus at the end of University Parkway, directly in front of the flagpoles. Additional passenger/ drop-off zones are located near the following buildings: Commons/University Hall College of Education Student Recreation and Fitness Center Yasuda Center (College of Extended Learning) Bicycle Racks Bicycle racks located throughout campus are the only appropriate places to secure bicycles. Bicycles must be parked in bicycle racks or in any parking area specifically designated or marked as a bicycle area. Bicycles shall not be secured to railings, hand rails or guard rails, including, but not limited to, those railings or other objects that may be required by persons with mobility impairments. Illegally parked bicycles will be cited and/or impounded. The Public Safety and Parking Services departments do not assume responsibility for locks cut for bicycle impoundment. For additional information on bicycle policies and regulations, please visit Individuals with visual or mobility impairments should always exercise caution around bicycle rack areas. We are dedicated to maintaining accessible, attractive and safe parking facilities to meet the parking needs of our customers. Information Services Hours of Operation Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM to 8:30 PM Friday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Saturday and Sunday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Summer Hours (June through September) Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Office Hours of Operation Normal office hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Extended hours during first week of each quarter: Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM 6:30 PM, Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Summer hours (June through September): Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM Parking Permits and Temporary (Visitor) Parking Passes Current valid CSUSB or CSU system-wide parking permits must be appropriately displayed on all vehicles parked anywhere on campus. Parking permits are enforced at all times, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A special permit or decal is required when parking in designated spaces reserved for faculty and staff members, carpool and vanpool participants, housing residents and persons with disabilities. Vehicles must display a valid parking permit, as well as a disabled person placard to park in accessible spaces on campus. The placard number and expiration date must be displayed clearly and in full view from the front of the vehicle. Vehicles displaying a disabled person placard may park in the following spaces: spaces with the international symbol of access (wheelchair symbol), designated timed spaces (with no time restriction, except at the Children s Center parking), general parking spaces, metered parking spaces, and in carpool spaces with two or more passengers. Parking in spaces reserved for individuals or specific group such as: service vehicles, faculty/staff, etcetera, without appropriate permission is prohibited. Violators will be cited

14 Visitors to campus with a valid disabled person placard may stop by one of the information centers on University Parkway or Coyote Drive and receive a courtesy guest permit for the day. Accessible Spaces The CSUSB campus maintains more than 200 accessible parking spaces. These spaces are located in every parking lot throughout campus, including both parking structures. Please refer to building detail pages starting on page 14 for locations of the nearest accessible parking by building. Note: No motor vehicle shall be parked in, obstruct, block, or otherwise bar access to those parking spaces designated as accessible parking. Also, no vehicle shall be parked or left standing so as to interfere with or impede the normal movement of wheelchairs upon ramps installed for the purpose of assisting the movement of persons with disabilities. Purchasing Parking Permits Quarterly parking permits may be purchased online at at the Bursar Offices (Sierra Hall 102 or University Hall 171), or the Parking Services Office (Temporary Offices 209). Daily permits may be purchased at the information centers on University Parkway or Coyote Drive, or at any of the many parking permit dispensers located throughout campus parking lots and structures. (Refer to the next section and/or to the map on page 21, for locations of parking dispensers.) Please contact the Parking Services office for current daily parking rates. Note: Most parking dispensers are set up for drive-up access, but are not currently accessible to walk-up users. Existing dispensers will be replaced with accessible walk-up dispensers as they need replacing. Temporary Medical Parking Permits Temporary medical parking permits are available to students with supporting documentation and/or students who have visually verifiable disabilities. Temporary medical parking permits must be used in conjunction with a daily parking pass or quarterly parking permit and provide parking assistance for a two-week period only. These temporary permits may be obtained at the Services to Students with Disabilities office, located in University Hall 183. For parking assistance beyond two weeks, students must visit their local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). 15 Information Centers There are two drive-up information centers on campus. They are located at the entrances to campus on University Parkway and on Coyote Drive. The staff at the information centers can provide helpful information regarding parking, directions on campus and can provide guests with campus maps. Daily parking permits may also be purchased here. 17 About Individual Building Pages The following pages provide detailed information regarding the various buildings and facilities located throughout the CSUSB campus. They are arranged in alphabetical order by building name, and each page features information regarding accessible outdoor paths of travel, entrances, facilities, chair lifts, and locations of any required areas of rescue assistance in each building. Additional information including the number of floors and elevators in the building, building occupants, and the year each building was constructed can also be found on these pages. Note: For the purpose of this guide, restrooms, drinking fountains, and entrances that meet or exceed the minimum requirements as specified by the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines and Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations are identified as accessible. For more information regarding guidelines, measurements, specifications and other design features, please contact the office of Capital Planning Design and Construction. Areas of Rescue Assistance Areas of Rescue Assistance are designated areas where people who are unable to use stairs may remain temporarily in safety to await further instruction or assistance during an emergency evacuation. These areas are identified in the individual building pages. Campus Courtesy Phones Campus courtesy phones are located in most classrooms, offices and hallways. These are available for making free calls to on-campus offices. Dialing on any campus courtesy phone will connect the user directly to University Police. The large number of phones located throughout campus makes it nearly impossible to indicate every individual phone in this guide. For information regarding courtesy phone locations in specific buildings, please contact the Telecommunications and Network Services office. High Winds: North-Facing Doors The CSUSB campus is located in an area often affected by Santa Ana wind conditions. During high winds, custodial staff may exercise their discretion in closing north-facing doors. All individuals should exercise extreme caution in these conditions and should proceed to the nearest accessible entrance. More information regarding campus evacuation procedures can be found on page 113, wind closures on page 124, and construction disruption plan policy on page

AD Building Details: This is a single-floor building. There are two accessible entrances on the south side of the building (details are displayed in the map on the next page). All restrooms in this building are accessible. There are currently no accessible drinking fountains; however, a remodel for accessible drinking fountains is scheduled to be completed by December Information on the following is not needed for a single-story building: area of rescue, chair lift, or evacuation chair

Building Details: This is a single-floor building. There are no accessible entrances for this building. All entrances exceed allowable pulling force. A remodel for accessible entrance is scheduled to be completed by December All restrooms and drinking fountains in this building are accessible. 20 Year Built: 1968 Animal House/Vivarium Number of Floors: 1 Map Abbreviation: AH Located in this Building: Animal Rooms, Greenhouses, Research Rooms Nearest Accessible Parking is located in the West Parking Structure and Biology Parking Lot. Building Details: This is a single-floor building. There are no accessible entrances for this building. All entrances exceed allowable pulling force. A remodel for accessible entrance is scheduled to be completed by December All restrooms in this building are accessible. There are no drinking fountains in this building. 21 Biological Sciences Year Built: 1968 (major renovation in 2008) Number of Floors: 3, plus basement Map Abbreviation: BI Located in this Building: College of Natural Sciences Administration Offices, Biology, Physics, Geology, and Natural Science Classrooms, Laboratories, and Faculty Offices Nearest Accessible Parking is located in Parking Lot M, the West Parking Structure, and the Biology Lot. Building Details: There are two accessible entrances on the west side of the building on the first floor (details are displayed in the map on the next page). The building is equipped with a single elevator that services all floors. BI Basement The basement is not accessible from the outside of the building. Accessible access to the basement is conducted by elevator. This floor has accessible restrooms and drinking fountains. An area of rescue has been proposed for this floor and will be completed by December First Floor (Ground Level) There are two accessible entrances on the west side of the building on the first floor. The building is equipped with an elevator that services all floors. This floor has accessible restrooms and drinking fountains. Second Floor The building is equipped with an elevator that services all floors. This floor has accessible restrooms and drinking fountains. An area of rescue has been proposed for this floor and will be completed by December This floor is equipped with an evacuation chair/emergency wheelchair, Model MK3, that is located at the south stairwell, designated as stairwell one. The evacuation chair has a weight capacity of 330 pounds, requires no attachments to stairs or side railings, and has an automatic braking system. This chair is designed for emergency use to move individuals quickly through corridors, down stairs, or to the elevator for building evacuation. Third Floor The building is equipped with an elevator that services all floors. This floor has accessible restrooms Women's Restroom Men's Restroom Elevator and drinking fountains. An area of rescue has been proposed for this floor and will be completed by December Area of Rescue 40 41
